Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

yes you guys are right
i meant he dosen’t have to submit it as he is a junior transfer applicant
anyway i just figured out that the decision came out late april last year lol
hope we all have it by mid-april so we don’t get stressed out too much!!

@tndud Ah, okay. Lol. I believe that was late for them though. Not sure what happened but the year before that they were out early on in the month I think.

@bcotton530

ye, sometimes it comes out early or late. i was gonna bother people in the admission office so much by asking them when the decision would be, but the lady in the admission office was sooooooooo nice and said that they were doing their best to give us decisions as quickly as possible and that they completely understand this waiting time is killing us.
now i feel so guilty about calling and bothering them too much, and i decided to xxxx up and wait for the decision.

i called them three times today and couldnt get through once haha

Ronaldinho:

you never reached them? lol
anyway i can’t focus on my studis now. im checking my unc portal and this thread every minute.
i just got a mail from emory university and they are too rude, just as other guys say on emory’s thread.
here is what i got:
your name and date of birth?

what kind of answer is this???

@tndud

haha that is true. With Emory, the rudeness of the response varies depending on the responder. Sometimes the person responding to my questions is very nice, but sometimes they just seem rude and unprofessional.

Edit: Bothering them a lot is probably not a good idea though. They just got done reviewing all those freshman applications and now they have to work on transfer applications, they are probably irritated and burned out beyond belief at the moment. Plus, they are probably getting annoying emails and phone calls from parents of rejected applicants asking why they were rejected.

all i want to know is if there is any possibility that they might tell us this friday. the answer could have huge ramifications as to how much sleep i get this week.

@ronaldinho

I feel like (based on what I’ve read on here so far I haven’t called at all to ask myself) they’re not really sure how long it’s gonna take… I think they’re just hoping it’ll be soon haha

bcotton530 is correct. Only juniors may opt to not send ACT/SAT scores.

Thus far, I’ve been told by admissions months before the deadline that my GED was not needed; that was very wrong and put me at a disadvantage considering my app wasn’t cleared for review until two and half weeks after everyone else. Additionally, I was told by another admissions person that they couldn’t take a scanned copy of my GED transcript and diploma in place of the official that was on the way; that was wrong as well. I was also told that decisions would be out mid to late April first; it seems like that is going to be wrong also.

I didn’t really start to get accurate and effective answers until I was put in contact with the senior assistant director of admissions who helped me with all of my problems in one single phone call. He also told me that decisions would be released somewhere around the 8th of April. Considering he was the only one who really helped me with my problems and fixed my application for me, and his position high up in the office. I think it’s safe to assume we’re looking at the 8th of April(give or take a day or two) as a target date.

I feel all of your pain, this wait is eating my soul and keeping me up at night. If we don’t hear anything by Friday afternoon, I will call him again and try and squeeze a date out of him so we can all at least relax for a minute or two, which will immediately be followed by obsessive refreshments of this forum, checking the mailbox(even though we know we will be notified online) and whining akin to a two year old who doesn’t want to go to bed(I’m only speaking for myself here).

if thats what he told you, then i would guess either the 5th or the 12th. the 8th is a monday, and they usually wait until friday afternoon, presumably so they arent overwhelmed with calls and emails for the next couple of days. It would seem strange to release decisions right after the weekend, but who knows.

@CC Hopefully he was accurate with that date.

@Ron I think you’re right about the Friday thing. Kinda like a way to make us sleep on it before we call asking a million and one questions (especially those that get denied :slight_smile: One of my professors is like that. Won’t take emails about our papers until the next day so we’ve had time to think about it.

regardless, something tells me i’ll be giving admissions another call tomorrow. my roommate actually got into unc and opted to come here instead, and he said that it is significantly easier to get in as a transfer student. not sure i believe that but we’ll see

@Ronald If you’re OOS, it is A LOT A LOT A LOT easier to get in as a transfer student because they don’t have to abide by the … 89% (?) rule. If you’re in-state, I’m not sure. I feel like it may be easier if you’re a good student since the applicant pool’s much smaller. But maybe not. I’m not sure.

I’m with you, we just have to wait & see :</p>

yeah im OOS. and if that much of the school is instate, maybe theyll be happy to get a few people to pay that OOS tuition. fingers crossed

@Ronaldinho I don’t have the statistics to back it up, but I think a significant number of transfer students are OOS. Getting into UNC during freshman is almost impossible for OOS, since they usually have very few spots open after they recruit athletes. I assume that they want more OOS for transfer to make the campus a little more diverse. I could be wrong here since UNC doesn’t post exact statistics on this topic, but it makes sense to assume that it is true.

@Ronald Then yeah, for you (& me, since I’m OOS as well) it’s a lot easier to apply as a transfer student because being OOS doesn’t count against us like it would if we applied first-year.

@SAT I haven’t looked at the stats for that, honestly. I’m not even sure where to find those. It’s crazy how hard it is to get specifics like that these days. But I agree. What you’re saying would make sense. Not only the idea of diversity but – the difference in tuition is outrageous. OOS students are where most of the money rolls in… & money makes the world go 'round.

My best guess is the decisions will probably start rolling out this Friday, the 5th. It would make sense that it would only be 7ish weeks again, like it has been every year. I think that is probably why they made the transfer application due date the 15th of February, so they wouldn’t be backed up like they were last year. It probably also eliminated a good bit of applicants making the date that much earlier.

This would also make sense as to why the 8th was told to @CCstudentNYC – Because that would give considerable time for most of the decisions to be released already, assuming that they probably release them in order of being analyzed.

I think SAT is right on the money.

Does anyone know if certain departments/majors within CAS are more difficult to get into?

I’m applying as an Econ major from a ranked 4 year. 3.6 GPA (I did terrible first semester-separation of parents, but I’ve received a 3.8 4.0 and 4.0 on my most recent midterm report).
