*Official UNC Fall 2010 Transfer Thread*

I got denied from UNC as a freshman, but would love to transfer in next fall as a sophomore. I fear I’m still not up to the Chapel Hill standard, but wanted to get some feedback from you all before sending in my application. I’m out of state, but just a stone’s throw away in Tennessee.

Highschool –
GPA: 3.65
ACT: 31
ECs: mainly, four years after school tutoring at Boys and Girls’ Club, three years on Student Government, two years on a community service leadership board, and one year as Editor in Chief of the yearbook.
APs: 7 (3 on Calc AB, Latin Vergil, and Latin Lit; 4 on Art History; 5 on Human Geography, English Language and English Lit.)

College –
University of Tennessee, Knoxville
GPA: 4.0 (first ever. Haha.)
fall semester, 14 hrs with 2 Honors courses
spring semester, 17 hrs
ECs: joined a sorority, volunteer at elementary school health clinic an hour a week.

Any comments would be much appreciated :)

al1a- I would say that you have a good shot. The only negative would be your high school GPA. Junior applicants get it a bit easier on that front. But, I’d say apply, you’ve got a shot.

Also, who is sending professor recommendation? I know they aren’t required, but I am sending two anyway.

I’m sending them as well, anything that will help. UNC definitely falls under my “dream school” category along with Princeton, Brown, and Stanford. I don’t care for the rankings because you’re still going to have excellent professors and job opportunities at any of them.

el1a you should have as good a shot as anyone applying as a sophomore.

Does anyone know do we need to submit a LOR from professor?

Chance?

well, i heard that transfer students have a greater chance in being accepted

my stats are:
college GPA: 3.6 (16 credits) but i intend on getting all A’s this semester 3.8 (31 credits)
involved in many extra-curriculars
Dean’s Honor roll
National Society of Collegiate Scholar
worked about 30 hours a week

High School:
47 out of 512 (top 10% of class)
3.65 unweighted, and 4.25 weighted (took 8 AP classes)
Bad ACT score:
27 math
26 engl
25 composite
I am an African-American female at University of Kansas currently.

work about 25 hours a week at a hospital
What are my chances?

hey so the applications are due right around the corner. I’m just reviewing mine right now. Does anyone know if there is relative difficulty of being admitted to majors or all applicants to the College of Letters and Sciences weighed against each other (I’m trying to decide between applying as Econ or Poly-Sci)

Also. Due March 1st means any time tomorrow till 11:59 PM correct?

Can someone who cares about me, read my application essay? It will be ready tomorrow.

Also,

I’m instate, 2040/1330 SATS, 29 ACT, high writing scores, few passable AP scores, GPA/class rank is low as 3.5. I got deferred and then waitlisted and never admitted as a HS senior '08. I took a gap year off doing many jobs and volunteering Americorps (which I got fired from) and then enrolled into a community college just this semester. I have community college online classes 15 hours “pending” for grades.

Do I have good chances? UNC is my dream school especially factoring in finances. I will finish my essay by tomorrow and have no Rec’s for the transfer application.

sorry I just want to be sure of this. Due march 1st is anytime tomorrow right?

Should I use the space in educational history to explain W’s or talk about a professor that I think I did A work for that gave me two B’s keeping me from getting a 4.0 last semester?
Thanks!

what are my chances?

High School:
GPA: 3.4 (unweighted) 4.0 (weighted)
Top 25% of HS class
AP: 5 total AP classes (mostly B grades and mostly 3s on AP exams)
SAT: 600M 650CR 590W
EX: strong extracurriculars, volunteering and leadership

College (applying for fall of sophomore):
GPA: 3.94 (one semester of classes)
EX: Honors program, Deans list, member of a couple clubs, volunteer abroad

My strongest aspects are definitely my extracurriculars and my grades senior year in HS (4.875 weighted) and first semester in college (3.94). Also, I believe my essays are pretty strong.

Will someone read my Essays for me peace of mind? They’ve already been submitted. Private Message PM me

Looking to transfer in as a sophomore! I’m a freshman in biomedical engineering at NCSU. Application has already been submitted.

HS:
GPA: 4.1
SAT: 640 MATH, 560 READING, 680 WRITING i write essays well
Plenty of extras in volunteering, work, few clubs, awards, etc.

COLLEGE:
GPA: 3.72 first semester
CLASSES: pretty rough schedule with lots of math and science (engineering is rough in general haha), also have econ, english, PE, etc.
CREDITS: 30 total after this year
Still keeping it up with extras, made Dean’s list, won a bronze in the engineering competition here…

UNC and NCSU have a joint department in BME. NCSU is better for engineering, but the research opportunities for medical-related majors at UNC are much better, so that’s the main reason I want to transfer… that and Chapel Hill is sooo much better than downtown Raleigh! The only reason I wanted to go to NCSU for bme was because I thought it was necessary to have a PE license, but apparently you don’t need one for BME.

Looks pretty good biomed2013. I applied as well. What do you think my chances are?

HS:
GPA 3.65 uw/4.3 w
sat: 1880, took again last 2 months ago. got 2000. So shouldnt look at 1880?..
National and spanish honors society. science olympiad. swim team x4 and captain x2

College:
GPA 3.9
dean’s list, chancellor’s achievment award, chancellor’s challenge participant, leadership certificate, student government representative and committee chair, model un, writing consultant.

Excellent essay from my english professor i’ve had for tow semesters.

I cannot wait until April…

Application completed just have to wait…possibly the worst part.
Can someone chance me? Tell me your opinion and yes/no? please be blunt

Hello, I’m looking to transfer to UNC with UGA and Clemson as my fall back choices.

College: Christopher Newport University
Current Major(s): Economics and History (Econ is primary)
GPA: 3.5 first semester, 3.8(+ or - .1) second semester So around a 3.65? (This is with a very difficult Freshman class load. (Diving straight into my majors, I’m done with most basic requirements already.)
Credits/hours: 30 completed
Awards: National AP scholar and National Merit Scholar
SAT:1470/2130—750 CR/720 M/650 W
High School GPA: 3.2 Unweighted Fairfax County (I was lazy as hell)
APs taken: All 4s or 5s (27 credit hours at UNC, some classes giving a total of 6 hours) (World History, US History, US Government, Comparative Government, English Language, English Literature, Statistics, and Human Geography)
Recommendations: I have a quality letter from both an Econ professor and a History professor who both know me quite well. Here’s where it gets interesting. I also have a personal letter from Thomas Kenan (Yeah, the Kenan Business School and the stadium are both named after his family) who is currently on the UNC board of directors.
Essay: Quality.
Extra Curricular: Above Average

I love my current school but the Economics program is very weak (No BA offered :/) and I want to go to grad school. Also, when I toured UNC I fell in love with it. I’ve never felt that way in any other campus I’ve been through. Any thoughts? I’ve already heard back from Clemson and Georgia positively, so now I’m just waiting to hear from my first choice. :)

Would anyone like to give me their thoughts? :(

Hey there

I have the same list as you but not Clemson. I have no idea about UNC but I’m quite sure UGA will take you in so at least you’ve got somewhere to go if UNC is crappy this year. Hmm I sure hope that’s not the case :(
