*Official UNC Fall 2010 Transfer Thread*

I’ve been watching the past three seasons of Heroes to distract myself, personally.

hey do you guys think taking a pass/fail class that is not related to your major would hurt your transcript?

My guess is that it would depend on the otherwise heaviness of your course load. But I don’t see why it would be harmful; well-rounded students are generally favored.

i cant seem to fall asleep so…

only a 1220:/ out of 1600. hopefully it doesn’t hurt me to much. I know its the average for soph transfers.

Good morning everyone, just wanted to let you know I called the office of admissions about 5 minutes a go. They said decisions will be available online on friday after 5pm!!!

ahhhhh…im legit bugging out. ive watched like every episode of greek and cant sit through classes for my life this week. i also have a bottle of champagne waiting in my mini fridge: to celebrate with friends if i get in and to drink myself to sleep if i dont hahaha.

i think everyone here as a great chance! we’re all clearly obsessed, so hopefully that commitment to unc will show through in all of our apps. 55 hours…

Hopefully you will be drinking the champagne while celebrating that you got into UNC. :)

@crand91

Man, I’ve got a half handle of Jim Beam waiting for that purpose.

This could get ugly if I’m denied.

I’m half-kidding btw.

I think they can smell people who pad their gpa, so if your GPA is lower but you’ve been packing hard classes you get extra brownie points for sure

To crand91: looks like you are a freshman. Are you sure you can drink alcohol at your age?
=))
Best luck to you crand91!

Lawd, obsessives.

…I feel 'ya. :)

@TaggartNY

Oh, I don’t believe that. My high school offered only 7 APs and I took 3 of them my junior year, with 2 honor classes filling out the rest of my first semester (2nd semester was a foreign language and an online college course through another UNC school). My GPA suffered because of one AP class - I only had 3 grades in my entire high school career that were not As (and my school graded on a 7 point scale; below a 93 was a B) - and I didn’t even get waitlisted. Meanwhile, a lot of my peers were accepted even though they had taken far more electives/didn’t have a heavy workload (1 AP a year and 1-2 honors classes) but had a far higher GPA. Not trying to sound bitter, but UNC unfortunately places a lot of emphasis on GPA. They try to deny it, but my step-aunt was an associate professor at UNC for 20 years and has told me the same thing.

@CNUtoUNC: haha im half kidding too…but maybe not? haha we’ll see how friday goes.

i hope ill be celebrating:) its so sad, but i hate where i am now. i’m in a sorority, have great friends, do tons of clubs and community service, and have great professors, but i just cant stand the school if that make sense? i know that i belong at unc, i just hope that admissions sees that too!

@crand91

I know what you mean. My school has incredible professors, the students are friendly and laidback (not snobbish at all), very eco-friendly campus and a nice town… I just don’t like the school. The classes aren’t challenging for me, which makes me slack off because I know I can get a decent grade without putting in any effort. If I’m going to put all of this time and money into going to college, I’d like to receive an education that really benefits me, y’know? I really hope everyone on this board gets accepted, lol.

@crand91

Yeah, same exact situation. I have great friends who I’m going to miss every day, I just really wanted that big university feel that I don’t get here at all. :(

Plus my school’s econ major is more like a business major with an econ concentration… Which does not work for potential PhD students at all.

I essentially taken 12 credit hours of graduate equivalent classes within my major as a “sophomore”. I had a few A’s and a few grades that were below an A but passing. This significantly lowered my GPA but it is still over the average GPA of the accepted applicants that have been accepted for the class standing I am applying for. I am hoping since I didn’t opt out and take easier classes where I could have easily obtained a 4.0 GPA each semester that this doesn’t hurt my chances. I do have stellar EC though, so hopefully everything works out in the end… Friday can’t come soon enough!

thurston: did you tell them that

My application got withdrawn because there was a problem with my HS transcript. I had them resend it LITERALLY 4 times. Luckily the lady on the phone got my application reinstated and I have to get it in again…

this is ridiculous. *** is with my high school?

yeah that sucks taggart!! just get a copy and fax it or scan/email it yourself because then you will have control of it

and askdjfkasjdf omg after 5pm on friday!!! my class gets out at 230 and I start work at 3pm (west coast time) so I am debating if I should check before work or during…eek!
