[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My essays – I think my voice really stood out and I showed them how much I wanted to go. Maybe my choir awards too? I totally geeked out in my essays about how much I love choir and they mentioned it in my acceptance letter as well
[li] What would you have done differently?:[/ul]
** Maybe more volunteering, and I just wish in general that I was better at math and science Other Factors:**[/li]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: I seriously cannot believe it at all. I was expecting to get deferred, so this is such a wonderful surprise. Congratulations to everyone else and good luck for anyone reading this who is applying next year (I was one of those people)! My best advice would be to pay a lot of attention to the essays and show your personality in them. I’m pretty sure this is where I’ll be going, but we’ll see. Oh my goodness I’m so happy and jubilant and surprised and excited!! BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!!

Congratulations to those accepted! Good luck to those deferred! And to those who were declined: this is not in any way an accurate reflection of your self worth, and I am sure that you will all find outstanding schools. I will be attending Columbia University, but it was truly an honor to have been accepted to UChicago; I know that those of you who attend will have an incredible four years.

Got in another school ED(Barnard), and will be going, but I was a bit surprised at UChicago.

Deferred.

Deferred:
UW G.P.A :3.6
W G.P.A. : 4.1
A.P. COURSES :9 -The rest were honors classes.
My teacher/counselor rec`s were AMAZING. I put alot of time into my essays and my A.P. English teacher thougt they were extremely well-done. I have a decent amount of extracurriculars and leadership positions. What killed me was my A.C.T which was only a 25. But I am retaking it in February. Really crushed at not being accepted. I have wanted to go to UChicago since 7th grade. I really hope I can make it in during regular decision (IA)

Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: 7/8 Chose topic about contributions to the college community- wrote about cultural background, experience in childhood that greatly influence my philosophy today. [/li][] EC Short Answer: 6/7 wrote about my main comm. service project- described what we do, and unexpected lessons (such as learning not to be uptight planners all the time)
[] Extended essay(which topic): 7 Between living and dreaming…wasn’t particularly creative in my opinion, but I wrote about finding a vocation that you are wholly passionate about.
[] Optional Essay: 8 unlike most people I saw, I wrote about A LOT of things rather than one thing. Everything from favorite books and authors (China Achebe, Les Mis, House of the Spirits), movies (lots of french movies), documentaries, artists, TEDtalks, and random stuff like knitting and baking
[] Why Chicago: 8 I don’t remember it much, but I remember that I spent a lot of time learning more about the school
[] Other:[/ul][] Teacher Recommendation #1: 7 I know NOTHING about it. From chemistry teacher, I’ve been in her class since junior yr (2 yr hl chem). I trust that she wrote a good one because I think I’ve been a good student, I really love her class. Plus, she has written recommendations for me to summer programs and I got into 2 very good ones, so they must’ve worked MIRACLES for me.
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: 9. A 9 because I more or less know what she wrote. She was my anthro teacher, and MUN club sponsor last yr. We have a great relationship, we talked a lot outside of class and still have discussions though she is no longer my teacher. I’ve seen other recommendations she wrote for me for scholarships and they have been really nice, and really personal.
[] Counselor Rec: 9. In a large public school, but I know her better than many other students because of student government. She told me “she had to make the font smaller to fit all the good things in lol”
[] Additional Rec: I sent in my MITES Evaluations, for better or for worse. They pointed out my weaknesses (lack of confidence, hesitant to take risks in class), which I totally I agree with, but ultimately overall talked about how much I grew. I think they were overall very positive evaluations.
[] Interview: 7- it was fun! We talked about IB and one of our favorite books, the House of the Spirits.
