Could we add a “housing and dining agreement link” part to the decision responses, so we can figure out, once and for all, if it means anything?

Never done this format before, hope it works haha…

[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National merit semifinalist? AP Scholar? All state chorus? (major in my heart, minor to anybody else)[/li][/ul]

Subjective:

[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): school publications club, school musical, chorus (all county, solo and ensemble), used to run track and cross country and played basketball, attended the University of Maryland Computer Science Competition
[
] Job/Work Experience: None
[] Volunteer/Community service: Not much service; I volunteered for a couple hours at a dog shelter, an elementary fun and fitness day, and some music events, but never had much time or energy to volunteer many hours.
[
] Summer Activities: Summer internship
[] Essays: I wrote a decent essay about being the only male in chorus and how I overcame it to become an All-county and now all-state baritone. It was not as fully developed, because I copied the essay over from my common app with a similar prompt and made some minor adjustments to fit the word limit.
[
] Teacher Recommendation: My AP English teacher recommended me. I assume she wrote a good recommendation because I was always doing extra in her class ,like making videos for projects that just asked you to write some dialogue on paper. My Calculus AB teacher that I had a year before the typical STEM schedule also wrote me one. She seemed to respect my work ethic and motivation to excel. Plus, she’s head math teacher.
[] Counselor Rec: I have a very close connection with my counselor. I can say I’m blessed to have such an amazing counselor that I can talk with on a personal level. Her office is like a safe haven to me during bad school days and she’s always in her room ready to listen and understand. I don’t know how I would’ve made it through high school without her guidance and counseling both academically and emotionally.

General Comments:
had the housing agreement thing on app
I am in state

I’m stoked to finally be accepted somewhere and even moreso that I was accepted into the Honors college. I’m not going to the lie, the moments leading up to the Decision had my heart beating like it was trying to spit bars to Eminem’s Rap God. Ahh. I’m relieved to be able to attend college;

Don’t doubt yourself, y’all.

Also, note to the OP, the text formatting of the original post are missing some [ list] brackets, and the size adjustment should be a regular number like [ size=7] rather than [size=+2].

[

[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Band, 4 years; National Honor Society (President senior year), HOBY alumnus (Junior Staff member, Alumni Association volunteer junior/senior year).
[
] Job/Work Experience: None
[] Volunteer/Community service: Almost 200 logged hours: HOBY, local historic sites, Relays for Life, etc.
[
] Summer Activities: Volunteering
[] Essays: Critiqued by teachers who felt they were strong (I hate talking about my writing)
[
] Teacher Recommendation: I assume they were fine; I don’t know why a teacher wouldn’t write a great rec.
[] Counselor Rec: My GC loves me since I go see her at least 3 times a week, so I’m assuming great lol.
[
] Additional Rec: None
[li] Interview: None[/li][/ul]

Other:

  • [] State (if domestic applicant): New York (non-Maryland resident)
    [
] Country (if international applicant): –
    [] School Type: Public
    [
    ] Ethnicity: White/Caucasian
    [] Gender: Male
    [
] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First gen college student.

Reflection:

  • [] Strengths: Even though I just said I hate talking about my writing, I felt my writing for the short answer and essay questions was very good.
    [
] Weaknesses: Some low grades sophomore year that may have brought down my GPA a little bit.
[] Why you think you were accepted: I think I was a competitive out-of-state applicant and I think my short answer questions emphasized the personal and professional goals I have set for myself.
    [
] Where else were you accepted: SUNY New Paltz/Binghamton, Seton Hall University, U of Hartford. Waiting on Boston U and Brown.

General Comments: Maryland appealed to me because it was a real college; something I hadn’t really been able to see or get a feel for anywhere else in my area (and when I say real, it’s hard to explain what I mean… I guess what my traditional view of a college should be). Its proximity to DC and its great Gov & Pol program as well as having a degree program in Arabic suited my desires to be near a big city where I could get to work as soon as possible in the field of foreign relations. It’s all about considering where is best for you!
