I think they LIKE to keep us guessing!
Get me all excited for nothing and then…nothing!

I guess we have no option but to keep on waiting. In the mean time, I have been going through UMD reviews and I ran into this page. I now dont know what to thing after reading those comments. Maybe someone can shed some light on how accurate they are. Btw they were made in 2004.

The link is giving me issues so please just copy past the url. I know its long and I apologyse.

Looks like this site is set up to automatically block any mention of any rival site even if its a link. Thats why the link doesnt work. Anyway people in that site had pretty negative comments. They basically said that UMD is a school full of snotty kids who still follow old high school habits such as not associating with someone because they are jocks, nerds etc. They also said that college park is basically a slum with crime rates as high as philly and even cars parked in the parking lots are broken into, also they mentioned about how rundown the buildings in the campus are and how the professors only see students as a stastistic since there are so many. They had quite a bit to say about the over priced food on campus, unmotivated students who just want to party and the fact that any instate student can get in even with a poor Gpa. Basically the comments were pretty negative and they could make anyone think twice about going there. It was quite hard to find anything positive amongst the 20 or so comments that I read. Is there any basis to these comments?

The thing you have to remember is someone is far more likely to go through the trouble of posting a review if they aren’t happy.

Many many more people are simply enjoying themselves instead of typing up a review. I literally have not heard a single person say they do not like it here. While obviously some people don’t like it, my point is that the overwhelming majority love it here. 95% retention rate.

Admission to Maryland continues to get more competitive every year. By no means can “any instate student can get in even with poor Gpa”. That is absurd. The acceptance rate for this upcoming class was 41%. All kinds of people go here, which is part of the reason why it is so great. Do some people party? Yeah. Is it the majority? I am not sure. Point being you can definitely finds kids that truly care and don’t drink and party.

I have never been to a college party and consider myself a very dedicated student and I LOVE it here. I don’t drink or do anything that a stereotypical college student would do. I know many people equally dedicated and some kids here are incredibly sharp, noticeably so. You can get where you want to be through Maryland by working hard.

College Park is not that nice but the campus itself is beautiful. You won’t find yourself needing to go into “downtown” College Park very often if you don’t go to the bars or house parties.

Overall, I wouldn’t give those views a second thought. Go visit the school and talk to real students that are experiencing life as a UMD student at this moment. I’d be willing to bet you would like what you hear.

my application has changed, on the bottom a “housing and dining” application form has opened up. there is no decision yet. im pretty sure this doesnt mean anything, but has this happened to anyone else??

@TrsfersStud: Yeah! I saw that too! I thought I was going crazy and ‘maybe’ didn’t see it before. Changes are being made so something must happen soon! fingers crossed!
@TerpGuy: Thanks for that reassuring post. One of the reasons I am transferring is that I really felt like I didn’t fit in well at my other school (I’m not the partier, either). I’ve always been told though that at UMD there is a group for everyone! I hope I will be to discover my own knitch this fall!

I see the “housing and dining” button.
And some of applicant don’t have it.
It might be…???

That seems strange that some do and some don’t?
How did you discover this jbaek?!

This waiting game is so hard!

i hope they tell us soon, i had my hopes up on friday

It was like Christmas eve on Thursday. I couldn’t even sleep and once I did I even had a dream I got in.! I hope my dream doesn’t disappoint me. (; waiting, waiting, waiting…
Though, I have a gut feeling on this week.

I have that housing and dining form too!

It hasn’t shown up on mine, but that could be because,
- I’m getting rejected
- They’re putting me in the regular decision/space available pool
- It is purely random

Maybe someone should have told them I’m interviewing Monday for a chance to speak at the Montgomery College commencement as a valedictorian.

da6onet, i think its random. i wouldnt think to much of it.

@da60net I’m sure it’s random. I think we’re all reading too much into it!

Remain calm everyone. We’re going to be OK!

@ForzaNatalia: I know another website called “gohackers” which is korean website just like college confi. FOur people have the button but two people don’t have the button.

@Jensgt. Do you have the button? If you do then it could mean something since you are practically guaranteed a place.

I have the housing application too

I’m pretty sure I’m getting bumped into the space available pool for mid/late july because of my unique circumstances. So I’m going to go ahead and call it: if you have the housing app button, you’re in, if you don’t you’re either rejected or they’re going to wait for your final grades.
