OFFICIAL University of Maryland Fall 2013 Transfer

That is true

I live in DC and I have a car, therefore I’m commuting. Don’t think it’s worth it to spend extra 10k to live on campus.

Have you considered all the factors? The commute may get to be a bit of a hassle as time progresses. Also you’ll be limiting the social aspect of your college experience a bit. Another thing to consider would be scheduling. Lets say you have one class and 9 in the morning and you don’t have another class until 3 in the afternoon. You won’t want to drive all the way home but you won’t be able to go back to your dorm to take a nap or otherwise relax. This is fairly easily fixed as you could just hang out at McKeldin or a coffee shop or maybe hang around with your friends should they be free. Not to mention gas. Its not just like if you don’t live on campus, that 10k back in your pocket. These are just some things to consider.

Remember jay327 we all do not have the same circumstances as do you, so some of us have to rely on living on campus.

yeah… but I do think living on campus is appealing if money wasn’t the issue…meeting new people and stuff.

@TrAnMu, You’re right… but I’m also afraid to get a bad roommate too. I went to Montgomery college Rockville and I commuted, although I did take some online classes… Don’t know how the scheduling looks like at college park. Does anyone know if they offer online classes?

Hey Jay! I’m positive UMCP has online (heck everyone is doing it) and I think if I remember scanning through the site too!

Also, I know how you feel! I myself was, am still worried about dorming and was even considering commuting ( but I live in Baltimore) so I have to face the music and hope for the best. But you live closer than I do, so commuting is certainly an option for you. I on the other hand would be taking a lot a time away from my studies just getting to and from the campus! Do you know any commuters? Maybe get the vibe from them. I think though no matter what route that you’ll still be able to have a good time on campus! :)

I live in Baltimore and I plan on taking the train to College Park.

Really Peracles!? I was trying to convince my parents but I don’t have a car either so I would need to still take the bus to the nearest MARC

Peracles-the MARK is expensive! how long would it take anyway?

The Marc is 127.50 for a monthly pass. It takes an hour each way. Plus it’s a commuter train for people with jobs. They are generally quiet respectful professionals.

And since I’ve been creepin for a few days I’ll add my info. I have a 3.34 GPA with 83 credits. I applied for engineering, and I will be completing my AA this semester at AACC. I also had the housing button pop up.

well we made it through the weekend almost…tomorrow it all starts again. The waiting!

I suppose I will add my info too.
I’m OOS and have a 3.51 GPA with almost 120 units completed by the end of this semester. I applied for aerospace engineering, have tons of EC’s including about 1000 hours of volunteering at a drug rehab center, and also had the housing button pop up.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading this thread for a while. I’m applying to UMD to be a Computer Science major. Anyone else out there interested in CS?

-Paul

I am…I am a physics and computer science major right now actually

$127 for a month is not bad at all. In fact, it’s even cheaper than the metro.

@ForzaNatalia, actually, I do have a few friends who are already at cp, and some of my current hs friends are going to be there in the Fall too. Most of us are choosing to commute because housing (any school) just cost TOOO MUCH…But I heard the atmosphere there is great.

Then I have no doubts! It’s what YOU make of it, I learned that well!

So how are we feeling about tomorrow? I feel Tuesday.

I have STRONG feeling about tomorrow! We shall see…

Soon we should just start taking bets on times.
What. I’m a broke college student! (;
