Decision: Accepted - LSA

Objective:[ul]
[] ACT: 33 composite (35 R, 35 E, 34 M, 28 S, 12 W)
[] SAT II: 750 Math I
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.69 UW (3.84 without frosh year)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5 AP Lang (Did not take course) – My school has very few APs.
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc, AP Physics
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): PSAT Commended Scholar

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): won’t list but they are superb with 3 leadership positions
[] Job/Work Experience: again, excellent
[] Volunteer/Community service: tons and tons and tons of volunteer work… not going to go into it, but very strong part of app.
[] Summer Activities: same as above
[] Essays: the other strongest part of my app. My michigan essays and common app were everything they needed to be. I got fantastic feedback on them. (Writing is my strength).
[] Teacher Recommendation: Did not read. Probably not amazing, but I have no idea!
[li] Counselor Rec: Did not read… but he claimed to have described the reasons for my weak freshman year. However, I would be pretty surprised if the rec was that good overall. (500+ kids in my graduating class. I do not know my very counselor well).
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): CT (OOS)
[] School Type: Public, competitive
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): 200K+
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): brother attending, good writer

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: ACT, ECs, essays, massive upward trend, EXTREME demonstrated interest.
[] Weaknesses: COURSE RIGOR and GPA! I took challenging courses, but not the most challenging courses my school offers. This freaked me out! Also freshman year was a killer…
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: because I love Michigan and my passion for it must have really shown through. Also that ACT score definitely helped.
[/li]

[/ul]**General Comments: ** Honestly so beyond happy I can’t even explain it. I was so freaking nervous I’d get deferred because of all the ivy-bound kids who applied just as safeties (there were around 20 of them). Just goes to show Michigan will not hurt you just because of your school’s competition - if you are qualified, they will take you, regardless of who at your school is applying. Also goes to show they value that upward trend!! If you bring your A game after freshman year then they will value that! Lastly, they must care deeply about essays. My essays were phenomenal and I am not just one of those people who thinks everything they do is great. I tend to be rather humble/unconfident, but I knew my essays were very strong.

Anyone who got deferred, or is an aspiring wolverine, who wants to know more about my ECs/essays/demonstrating interest or just wants some advice about getting in with an imperfect GPA, feel free to message me. I would love to help! Just goes to show you CAN get in without a 3.8+. Michigan is truly holistic. It has always been my first choice, dream school and I can’t believe I’m in. I am 100% attending. GO BLUE!!!
