Official University of Michigan Transfer Thread for Fall 2015

I know I’m way late to the party, but I just wanted to throw my acceptance into the mix in case anyone is interested.

Transfer app essays- Amazing
Recommendations- Very strong, from a professor at my current college

Extracurriculars - Fantastic - In past year, all since high school graduation:
At my current college:

  1. I am a mentor at a local middle school, and do finance/marketing for the club
  2. I am a student Ambassador, hosting students overnight and lots of other things school year
  3. Investment Banking Network member
  4. Microfinance Club member
  5. Volunteer at a youth immigrant shelter

This past summer - summer before arriving at college:
6. Campaign Volunteer - I spent 100+ hours volunteering for a U.S. Representative Campaign
7. Stock trading - I learned how to trade using professional software and virtual money
8. Entrepreneurship course - I completed a 5-week online (not for credit) Technology Entrepreneurship course from Stanford

I almost didn’t bother to apply with my average gpa, but it just goes to show that extracurricular and essays play a huge part in the decision. For any people reading this looking to transfer to U-M, or any school really, it’s important to do as many extra-curriculars as you possibly can in your free time. Especially things related to your interest. I had an insane year trying to keep up with both classes and all my clubs and activities, but ultimately it was fun, satisfying, and definitely worth it.

@ShuttlepilotND‌ i feel the same way. lemme kno how ur app goes!

@leftshark i enjoy stock/etf trading as well =p

Got my finaid letter… Just want to say, they’re so generous to an OOS transfer like me.

I still didn’t receive any feedback from UM. =(

@eyo777 hey how did you get your financial aid package from them? did u just email them and send in ur FAFSA???

@gwoonie I sent in my FAFSA a couple of weeks ago, my CSS about one week ago, and just updated my FAFSA couple of days ago. UMich sent me an email with an estimated finaid award notice yesterday morning. I had to access WA to look at it.

Hay! Congratulation to all who have been accepted! I am a freshman at UofM and love it. I have a room in Alice Lloyd for 2015-2016 and am looking to reassign it. Alice Lloyd is one of the best dorms on campus and has a great location. I lived in Alice Lloyd my freshman year and it was great. This is a great opportunity to get a room on central guaranteed. Let me know if anyone is interested!

@eyo777 I also got a really generous FA package as an OOS’er too, I couldn’t believe my eyes haha.

@NCXfer I know, right? I kept seeing forum posts about how the uni is so expensive and I was really expecting to pay full price for being an OOS junior transfer.

does anybody know if there is a transfer student facebook group?

oh also! is anybody going to orientation on may 18th?

my orientation is on the 21st of May.

is anyone living on bursley/north campus? I am and I am really nervous about it, because I’m gonna be an LSA student.

Will any of you guys be asking for an extension of the enrollment deadline? I read somewhere on here that schools don’t mind doing that because it shows you’re still interested. I’m still waiting on a few schools/FA to come back…

Accepted to CoE!

Just checked Wolverine Access 10 min ago and it had “View Decision”

@NCXfer I’m waiting on a few other schools to release decisions mid-May, but I’ll be paying the UMich deposit. If anything else is sent after that appeals to you, I think you can just cancel enrollment. Only thing is they won’t refund you.

@tvnerd Congrats!!! I was rooting for you!!! You must be so excited!

@ShuttlepilotND Thanks!! Yeah I am. I was waitlisted then rejected as a freshman and after working hard for two years, I finally got in!

I am certain you will get in and hope for you the best. Waiting for you to post “Accepted!” soon!

@TVNerd congrats. still waiting for mine. i dont rly care what the decision is at this point I just want an answer lol
