Hi all,

Starting this thread to get a consensus of those who will be applying to the University of Michigan for the fall 2015 term. Feel free to ask questions, and don't be hesitant to answer someone else's!

Good luck!

Hi all,

Starting this thread to get a consensus of those who will be applying to the University of Michigan for the fall 2015 term. Feel free to ask questions, and don't be hesitant to answer someone else's!

Good luck!

The time is approaching fast. I’ve been stalking these threads for two years now. Good luck to everyone!

If I dont get in for winter, im totally applying for fall semester since ill have junior status , only at sophomore status with my winter app

I’ll also be applying if I don’t get in for winter; Hopefully I’ll have a better shot because I’m just under junior status right now.

What are your stats for the winter semester?

I’m applying to the CoE for CS and right now I have 64 completed credits but only 40 of them will transfer; after this semester I will have 51 credits transferring. Unfortunately, my GPA was brought down to a 3.69 after two physics courses during the previous semesters.

I will have all the pre-reqs done for the CoE done this semester and was even told by an admissions counselor via email that the amount of credits I had didn’t matter, just that I had the prerequisite classes done by transfer time and had the necessary GPA.

To be completely honest, I’m not expecting to get in this semester and if I don’t get in for fall I have to go to state.

oh you’re applying cs too? yeah im applying cs for lsa, ive been following these transfer threads for a while and from what i’ve gathered, if you complete all transfer requirements and have a sufficient gpa, given great essays, you’d probably be able to get in. Are you applying from a community college? im applying from state. i applied with 33 transferable credits but after this semester ill be at 49. I dont know whether or not theyll take into account my AP credits, currently at MSU ill have 63 credits at the end of the semester. What I heard is that if accepted, they would give you credit for AP based on their standards, so my 11 ap credits would turn into 6. If they take into account AP credits, that would put me at 55 credits overall which puts me at junior status. Which I wish I had since my gpa is only a 3.63… I dont have the highest of hopes of getting in for the winter semester :/

Hi guys, I’m a freshmen at U-M Dearborn and its only been my first semester of college, I’m taking 12 credits right now, but I want to transfer to Ann Arbor for the Winter semester, I don’t want to wait an entire year to get in during the Fall of 2015, what do you guys think? I don’t have as much to show as most people on the thread, but I was accepted by UM Ann Arbor in high school but I couldn’t attend due to personal problems. Now that everything is resolved I want to be at Ann Arbor as soon as possible.

Any advice or thoughts on this? The deadline to transfer in time for the winter semester is October 1st, so I need to get everything in right away.

Thank You.

Applying to LSA
GPA: 3.83
Credits: 52
In Progress: 16 credits

Coming from Macomb Community College with an Associate of Arts, which I will receive in December. Phi Theta Kappa member and legacy. I’m hoping a business class that I took years ago, will not transfer. I heard that they recalculate your GPA with what transfers only, which will bring my GPA up to a 3.9 something along with an A in all my current classes.

I’m also applying to it on winter with
Applying LSA
Major : math, biochemistry
GPA : 3.3 (all cal1,2,3 - A )
Credit : 98
Graduated from CC in Seattle
I can speak 5 languages and am member of PTK with some volunteer activities

I think I might be fall on admission… but still trying…
What would be my chance,? T,T

I am a Freshman at Michigan State University. My first choice for college was the University of Michigan but I was deferred then rejected. My ACT was a 26 and my high school gpa was a 3.7 (unweighted) and a 3.92 (weighted).

I plan to apply for transfer to UMich LSA. My goal is to have my gpa between a 3.75-4.0. I have IB credits that would transfer to 11 credits at Michigan. Currently I am taking 13 credits this semester at MSU (UM equivalence of 12 credits) and take 16 transferable credits in the spring semester. This would equal a total of 23 credits and 16 pending credits for when I apply.

I would like to apply to the 2015 summer half so I can be easily adjusted to campus and by fall 2015 I would technically have close to junior status. I heard you have a better chance in admissions to transfer with the more credits you have.

I also plan to retake the ACT again in December. I know this isn’t required but sending in your high school ACT is required when applying for transfer. I want to show UMich that I am dedicated to this university and will work very hard there.

I am already very involved with a lot of academic organizations on campus (e.g. Women is Business, Student Marketing Organization, and General Management Association).

Does this sound like a good plan? Any suggestions?

Hey everyone!

I’m currently starting my 3rd year (out of 5) at my current institution. My high school record is pretty solid, I had a 3.85 unweighted GPA (I’m not sure what my weighted average was, but I took a lot of honors courses and a fair amount of AP courses (4 in my senior year). I got a 31 on my ACT with a 34 in Math and a 36 in Science.

I plan to apply to the CoE as an Aerospace or Civil Engineer.

My college GPA unfortunately isn’t the greatest. It’s a borderline 3.0 (However, my school uses a different grading scale than UMich, so on their scale it is higher.) I struggled pretty poorly my 1st quarter here, the fast paced thing was not my style as I fell behind in classes, got homesick, depressed, yadda yadda yadda. I ended up flunking calculus 1 (I never took it in high school.) But I was able to bounce back with some determination and do well the next two quarters during my freshman year. Sophomore year was good with exception of last quarter, in which I got screwed over in two classes by careless students in group projects.

Anyway, despite the relatively low GPA, I am in the honors college, participate in numerous intramurals and engineering related activities (and even a financial analysis group too.) I also bring something a lot of other students can’t offer; two 6 month engineering internships at prominent companies (a private firm, and for a government agency). I’m really hoping those and a great essay (I’m generally a good writer, or so I’ve been told) will help me get in. What do you guys think? Is it a bit of a reach? Or do I have a reasonable shot?

In short:
Applying: CoE (Aerospace or Civil)
GPA: Borderline 3.0
Credits: 90 Quarter credits, which is about 60 semester (assuming they all transfer, which I know they wont)
Tons of EC’s
2 6-month Internships with a great firm and government agency
31 ACT (34 Math, 36 Science), good high school record…

@graplinghook5 since you have about 60 transferable credits, high school credentials dont count anymore, but you did say you did better the next two quarters for college and they like to see upward trends and you’re in the honors college, so who knows?

Does anybody know if it will be tougher to get in as a freshman applicant? I’m attending a small liberal arts university right now, 3.7 high school GPA (4.18 weighted), 28 ACT, and was denied after being deferred last year. As of my mid-term grades I am currently holding a 4.0 GPA, and I am pretty confident that will hold until the end of the semester. But will transferring in as a sophomore hurt my chances or does it not really matter?

Oh, I read somewhere on their website that it was still necessary to send. (Especially given that I’m not entirely sure how many of these credits will actually transfer.)

I’m looking to transfer as either an Econ major or to the business school. I’m currently in my sophomore year. I had to transfer out of my first school after the first semester of freshman year due to family issues (will obviously communicate that with admissions). I still made a 3.71. At my state’s flagship university, second semester, I earned a 3.786 in the business school. This semester I am looking to earn a 3.7+. At the end of the current semester, I would have completed 49 credit hours. I am also a member of the honors college. As far as EC’s go, I am a member of a fraternity, the finance society, and have helped in the coordination of various philanthropic events such as an Autism Speaks event that raised over $50k, a party and basketball tournament that’s proceeds were donated to Breast cancer. This summer, I also worked full time at the world headquarters of a major corporation. What do my chances look like? Would really appreciate any input?

Hey everyone, I am currently a freshman at the University of Michigan Dearborn CECS pursuing Mechanical Engineering. I applied to Michigan’s LSA for fall '14 but was deferred, then denied. I’ll be applying to Ann Arbor’s CoE for Fall '15.
With AP’s I have 16 credits (Calc AB, Micro/Macro Economics, US History, and Statistics)
ACT: 29
High School GPA: 3.7
Fall '14 GPA: no lower than 3.8
I’m enrolled in 14 credits at the moment, and will have 54 (including AP’s) by the end of the summer term. All the pre-requisites for COE will be completed by that time too.
What do you think my chances are? Thanks for any input!

Hey guys, I’m currently a freshman at MSU Lyman Briggs applying to transfer into LSA at UMich. I have 40 credits in total, 28 from AP’s, and 12 from this first semester.

First semester classes (all 4 credits each): Physics I (3.5), Intro to HPS (writing course for Lyman Briggs students; 4.0), and Intro to Psych (2.5).
Cum GPA: 3.333
College EC’s: CIUS (indian organization), Spartan Zaariya (competitive Bollywood dance team), and CHYK (Hinduism study organization)

High School GPA: 3.58 weighted
Plenty of EC’s but took leadership positions mainly senior year and tennis for 3 years

Considering psychology really screwed up my GPA for the first semester, and an okay high school career, I’m just really nervous about whether or not I’ll get in. Please reply with any comments, concerns, or tips!

I am a Freshman at Central Michigan University. My cumulative GPA after my first semester is a 3.73 I plan to apply for admission for the Fall of 2015. I have heard from several sources that it is really difficult to get accepted to the University of Michigan as a Freshman transfer student. However, by the end of this academic year I will have 30 credits. Should I wait until the Fall 2015 to apply to Michigan - Ann Arbor or should I apply now as I had planned?
Stats:
Current College: Texas A&M University
GPA: 3.9 60 cr {3.875 (48 cr) at TAMU and 4.0 (12 cr) at local cc}
College Applying To: Engineering (Chemical)
I know the engineering school has requirements to have both physics done as well as all math through differential equations done. Will I hear a response before I finish these or do they just expect me to have them done by the time I attend in the fall? If anyone has any experience on this it would be awesome!
Good luck everybody!!
