@ags1213, HvePassion is right. We seem to think of interviews as game changers or crucial to the decision making process whereas they actually aren’t. My interviewer started off by saying that while the interview is for Penn to get to know you, it’s more for you to get to know about Penn. It was a very casual interview. I think calling it an interview makes it seem daunting and it’s a bit of a misnomer. It isn’t really an interview. Just a casual conversation between a prospective student and an alumnus. My interviewer is from my current school so we started by bitching about my school administration (obviously with some self restraint). And later he just asked me about my academic, co-curricular and sports interests. He asked me about what my activities meant to me, my intended major and why I wish to pursue it and my future plans. This took about 20-25 minutes. For the remaining time, he kept telling about his experiences at Penn and couldn’t stop talking about it to the point that he seemed obsessed. I think another reason why interviews don’t carry a lot of weight is because they’re alumni interviews, not admissions officer interviews, so there’s always room for biases and external factors influencing the interview report.

^Exactly. My interview question part maybe took 20 min max, and the rest was just her telling me about her experiences.

I need a little advice from you all regarding SAT retakes. My scores are as follows:
SAT Reasoning Test First Attempt: 2160 (760 M, 670 CR, 730 W Essay 9) Jan 2014
SAT Reasoning Test Second Attempt: 2290 (780 M, 760 CR, 750 W Essay 10) May 2014
Subject Tests: Math 2 770, Physics 780 (Oct 2014); Chemistry 800 (Nov 2014)
Should I retake any of these? A few people suggested that I should retake the SAT Reasoning Test and/or the Subject Tests for Math 2 and Physics to improve my scores if I have to apply RD (which I will probably have to). On the Reasoning Test, I think I can get around 2350 and Math 2 and Physics can possibly be improved too. I was aiming for perfect scores but it got a little difficult to manage Subject Tests with college apps in October, so I could only study for 4 or 5 days. Do you guys think it’s worth retaking any of these tests or are these scores fine too?
International student, applied to CAS.

@cstbzksfmgv I hope your joking… retaking any of those tests will do more harm than good…

@cstbzksfmgv your scores are more than fine. Remi is 100% right

I believe the date for notification is the 12th of December… this information is as per the likely letters they sent out a few days ago to athletes.

the 12th is my birthday ~X(

12th December? Math exam screwed for sure.
What other universities are you guys planning to apply to if you get rejected/deferred from Penn (hopefully not)?

Aghh bracing myself for rejection.

HYPS, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Washington St Louis, Wellesley, Rice, Northwestern, Berkeley, Middlebury, Emory and Canadian universities

Same @HvePassion.

I’ve already applied to Michigan EA. If rejected/deffered from Penn I’ll also apply to a couple local schools, Oberlin, Williams, and Amherst.

EA to Bentley

Regular to Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, Columbia, BC, uconn, NYU, babson. Hopefully we’ll all know very soon.

I’m applying to University of Southern California, NYU, Boston College, George Washington, and Syracuse (the last three being my safeties- I really would hang myself if I had to go to Syracuse ugh).

Yeah, I’ve applied to EA UChicago and Queens already. Submitting apps for Berkeley and UCLA tonight!

Early to Northeastern. Regular to Brown, Cornell, Yale, BC. Bracing myself for rejection from Wharton :-<

has anyone else heard about a date that ED decision letters will be out? I think athletes are usually on a different schedule.

Penn will send out an email regarding the exact date some time this week. Last year it was Dec 16 5pm EST, but the year before that it was Dec 12 6pm EST so who knows when our decision will be coming out…

thanks @BlueOreos - either way it’s getting close!

this is approaching so fast…

@ssiegel are you sure? Isn’t anyone notified on the same day?

@cstbzksfmgv @HvePassion Thanks for clarifying! I’m still thankful that I was given the opportunity to interview, I was just unsure of how it really works. I don’t know anyone who has applied/who is applying to Penn so I haven’t heard much about the interviewing process.
