****OFFICIAL University of Pennsyvlania CLASS OF 2019 ED Applicants Discussion Thread****

I heard SAT2s don’t really play a huge part, since the process is so holistic. And I’m a significant presence in each of those ECs, and senior prefect is the biggest leadership position here–elected by students and teachers. It’s likE student government president on steroids

@HvePassion‌

Chance mes are freaking me out!!! Anxious… if I had a habit of biting nails, I would be down to the beds.

@TAKOBE11‌ Yes, I agree that everything is holistic. Doesn’t mean SAT IIs aren’t important though - they are used to show admission officers your competency in a particular subject. I am guessing you are from a private, maybe pricier boarding school, so more is expected of you as well. Student council president is a fantastic extracurricular (shows that you’re likeable), and it’s good that you have a significant presence in your extracurriculars. That being said, there’s nothing that “pops out”. As long as you have good essays, you have a fighting chance for sure! Good luck.

@Millian‌ I feel so anxious too…urghhh. Pls just take me Penn

@TAKOBE11‌ As long as your have lots of money as an international, you have high chances of getting in!!! Dont worry that much!

All the people in this thread… can you do me another favor and check if you can access your PFAS again. They ran an update this morning and I can’t access anymore. (According to their website, you are not supposed to be able to access 30 days after you submit it or something?)

Question: would taking something like Orchestra, rather than another elective AP (APES, AP Psych) sophomore and junior years not be regarded as taking the “most rigorous” coursework?

It was the highest level of orchestra in addition to taking private lessons, but still, in a courseload context, APs could be seen as challeneging yourself more, I guess?

millian- mine was working fine earlier this afternoon but now the page does not load

Atleast in my school, for ib, they dont boost GPA. Anything above 93 is a 7, 87-92 is a 6, 80-86 is a 5 and so on. If you get lets say a 35 outve 42, your gpa would literally be 35/42 x 4. So its not weighed or inflated in any way. @BlueOreos‌

first CC post! :)

@drobinson969‌ You sound extremely interesting. If I were an ad com I would look into you more!
@gabrielle16‌ Great!!! that means that it is not just me. I am so paranoid about this website.

@olasko‌
so reassuring! as much as i complain about having to do the french baccalaureate and survive high school at the same time, can’t say i’m ungrateful as it’s made huntsman the perfect choice for me. a little concerned that choosing french as my target language might have turned admissions off a bit, given that i’m already fluent.

@BlueOreos‌ at my school IB Higher Level classes are weighted the same as APs and Standard Level is weighted like an honors course which is bull crap

@PhysicsisPhun15‌ so would a 5/7 in your school be a B in an AP course? or something like that?

Guys just an FYI the PFAS is back up, at least for me

What song will you guys listen to if accepted/rejected?
Accepted: happy
Rejected: don’t you worry child…

I know your opinions aren’t dictators of anything, but what do you think of my chances of acceptance? 800-800-650(r-m-w) sat, 35 act, 800-m2, 760-ush…
5/500 class ranking
~4.5/4 GPA, all A’s except freshman year, large amount of AP’s including 8 right now :cry:
No important awards, only things like ap national scholar.
Great common app essay, I feel like my whypenn essay is horrendous.
Anime club, academic team, engineering competition team (vp), magic the gathering club

Engineering undecided

@darthspectrum‌ As far as grades and standardized tests go, they’re pretty good. No set backs there. Most colleges don’t give a lot of weight to writing scores so you shouldn’t worry about it too much.
Your ECs and leadership seem weak. But it really depends on how you market yourself to the admissions committee and how your essays are. Just recently, a student with a 1690 got accepted through questbridge. So you can never know what may tip the scale in your favor. Good luck!
