Official University of Rochester 2016 Decision Thread

I want my letter already

My son still hasn’t received his yet here in Ohio. And I already checked the mail today.

International Students: The admit, waitlist, and deny notifications will be sent out via email over the next few weeks (a majority of the regular decision letters have not gone out yet). In addition to the email, admitted and waitlisted students will also receive a physical packet from the University of Rochester. Depending on you location, this physical letter could take much longer to arrive, which is why we will be emailing everyone first.

Domestic Students: Another batch of Admit / Waitlist / Deny letters is scheduled to go out on Friday, March 23rd.

A merit scholarship (if you were awarded one) typically arrives via mail 7 business days after your receive your admit letter.

A financial aid package (if you applied for need-based aid) arrives via email approximately 10 business days after you receive your admit letter.

Remember, if you haven’t received your letter by April 1st (the promised decision date for all regular decision applicants), simply give us a call at 888-822-2256 and we can give you the decision over the phone.

Ahhhh March 23rd is my birthday! I hear back from University of Rochester and Wake Forest then… this could be the best birthday ever or the worst… oy vey…

Hi,I’m an international applicant but attend high school in US,and the address I filled in the application is also in US,so DO I get notified by email or mail?

ACCEPTED!! (DS) with Merit

Overseas American; notice arrived today by email. Email said that acceptance packet has been sent by mail. I think the emails are for students residing outside USA/ Canada regardless of nationality.

… Emails for International students were out? i got nothing … hmm now im even more worried …

Hi. Is the next batch of letters going out today? Is it the last batch???

Do this batch of letters go out by 23rd or just start from 23rd?

mrky and offersplease,

My colleagues and I just received an email stating that the next batch of letters will be entering the mail stream on Monday, March 26th. It was not clear if this was the “last batch of letters”, but we must be very close to mailing out all of our decisions. I do not know the ratio of admit / waitlist / deny letters in this batch, but I do know that there are a couple hundred admits going out in this wave. Our promise at the beginning of each year is to send out all admissions letters by April 1st. If you haven’t received your letter by Monday, April 2nd, please give us a call.

TSocash,

Thank u for your help. That makes me feel a little released. Still need to be patient & calmed though.

Accepted in Oklahoma! RD.

Pick one:
Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): NA
[] ACT: 33
[] SAT II: NA(Hardly anyone in my area takes the SAT, not sure why.)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.76
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 7/52 (make fun all you want. I do it too.)
[] Senior Year Course Load: Physics, Advanced Math (basically pre calc), US Government/Econ, Concert Band, Honors English, Spanish 4, Geography, Computer Science + Programming. These are basically the most difficult classes offered at my school. I’m probably going to be starting out with a significant disadvantage because of this.
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): NA
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): (National Honors Society), Varsity Soccer, Spanish Club, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Pit Orchestra for the spring musical, other stuff.
[] Job/Work Experience: I work at a local internet based sales business/product design company
[] Volunteer/Community service: Various, including a week long service project in Philly.
[] Summer Activities: Work, Spanish Club trip to Peru this summer.
[] Essays: Main was about working to save up for an upright bass.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Both were pretty solid. One from my Spanish teacher, other from my English teacher
[] Counselor Rec: No idea
[] Additional Rec:
[li] Interview: Nope. Unfortunately, the school was too far away to merit one. It may have made a difference in merit based aid.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
[] Intended Major: Undecided Engineering (leaning towards electrical)
[] State (if domestic applicant): Ohio
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public (Rural, very small. <200 in HS)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: <70k
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation at a 4 year university.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Reasoning and problem solving (36 on the science subscore of the ACT)
[] Weaknesses: ACT Math brought me down. My highest composite happened to be my worst math score.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think I showed my general interest in learning and my determination to accomplish my goals. [/li][/ul]
General Comments: Rochester is likely to be my top choice now after being denied at Northwestern and having just found out that Carnegie will be none too pleased with my lack of an SAT science reasoning test. I was accepted to Case Western, but I will be appealing my financial aid package because it was far, far worse than what I was given by Rochester. Chances are that I will be seeing many of you this fall.

One question: Is it common to not receive merit aid from Rochester? I received a sizeable grant, but no merit aid. Just curious. By looking at the courses offered by my HS, that’s probably why I didn’t receive one.
