@trojanfighton unfortunately I’m not going to USC yet. I’m applying in the fall semester and plan to get through this insane admissions process. I’ve been keeping tabs with my USC counselor and have all my p’s and q’s in order. So feel free to ask any questions I’ll be more than happy to answer them.

Anyone have any insight as to what type of/how many EC’s are appropriate for a transfer applicant looking to go to 'SC after year one?

@tmick62 you can take as many EC’s as you like but for a positive outlook you should try and obtain a “Leadership” role. As far as a ‘good’ EC try to stay along the lines of what you’re majoring in. Don’t be special and do crochet while trying to get into accounting. It doesn’t look bad they would just like to know how the EC you chose will benefit you in the future. If you are doing crochet and going into accounting explain it in your essay how it’s benefiting you. I hope that helps.

I’m transferring there. Well, I’m gunna try haha

@DemiDyl
Yeah I totally get you. I hope you make it and get into USC. Are you a Transfer student? In State?
And great question @tmick62 about the EC’s. @DemiDyl Do you think volunteering at a women homeless shelter will help me, even though I’m going for per med. isn’t it kind of similar, I think? haha

Will they accept IGETC? I’m applying to
UCs and also to USC

@MoreFunner Good Luck and Fight on!

@trojanfighton Yea I’m hoping I make it too. Yes, I am a transfer student and I am in state currently going to a LACC. Which would be completely ironic to me if I didn’t get in. Volunteering at a women’s shelter is great for pre med it shows that you have compassion for people which is huge in medicine, you kinda have to care or you will end up hating your job.

@Ramfan661 unfortunately no… IGTEC is only for UC’s and CSU’s. You can complete IGETC and USC articulation at the same time but USC likes it more when their GE courses are completed shows interest. I don’t have the link right now but google search “USC articulation agreement” it has agreements with most Cali CC’s. I’m doing the same thing right now and it’s a little tougher but I’m more than half way done. I’m also getting it done in 3 semesters so if you put your mind to it it can be done… Just keep in mind what school you want to go to the most because most UC’s (besides berkley) accept partial IGETC completion. I hope that helps.

@DemiDyl
Cool I go to PCC. I know right? You’re in LA lol… Haha good one, thanks for your opinion. I think will sign up and hopefully do it this fall if not for winter. And I was about to ask you on USC’s articulation agreement, my USC counselor said I have to take most (or all) 64 units at a CC and the rest of the 64 units at USC. Are you taking all 64 at LACC? does it matter what classes we take?

@trojanfighton you can take 33 units (random number) and transfer as a freshmen/sophomore 64 units just happens to be the “max” amount of units to transfer. It all comes down to the articulation agreement. You must complete all, or most of, category 1,2,3,5, diversity, English/Math requirement (English/math are a must!). As for me at LACC I will be finished with 59 transferable units (I’ll have 68 total) and it will leave me room to double major. It doesn’t matter how many classes you take because ultimately only 64 units will transfer and of those 64 units we need to complete major prerequisites, category’s 1,2,3,5, diversity, and any English/math required. We do all that with a 3.2-3.8gpa some sweet EC’s, an awesome essay, a couple of rec letters (not required but look nice), and luck …definitely will be seeing the gorgeous cardinal and gold campus. Here is the link for articulation …

As far as major prerequisites go just look on the USC transfer PDF…

Fight on!

Hey everyone! I am so excited to apply! Every day I look at USC website haha I absolutely cannot wait!! Just wondering, any people here that are applying as communication majors?!

@toobs93 haha that’s great that you’re excited…try to hold on to that. Applying to USC involves a long, long wait. You will start to feel a bit manic at a certain point. As it gets closer to the fall, you’ll start to see more annenberg majors on here.

@DemiDyl
Wow that’s great! Your set and ready to transfer I hope you make it!! And thank you for all of your tips and suggestions!..Another Q. Would I have to take some of my BS classes there or will it not count after?. And taking credit transfer classes, for example I’m taking German, will 1 and 2 count as transfer or only 3? (i know that i need german 3 but will the first two count?) And should I take transfer classes that matter such as science, or can I take any transfer classes just to equal the units to transfer? :))) Thank You!!

@trojanfighton
Yea took me like 8weeks to get all my classes in order. Thank you for giving me some hope of transferring lol.

The classes you take there will be any general Ed required but after that it really doesn’t matter. Yes only German 3 will count its required for you to graduate but if you don’t finish it you can take it there. You MUST take classes that matter… Why would you take architecture and go into pre-med? Common sense… Unless you plan on changing your major then it’s cool lol. Like I said before category’s 1,2,3,5 and diversity here’s a link for major prerequisites as well …

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/AdditionalCourseRecommendation2012.pdf

Use the articulation site and this to see what classes are a must.

@DemiDyl
Hahaha no problem… So you took 8 weeks to get all of your classes together?.. Haha very true I don’t want to take unnecessary classes lol, so it’s a must to take classes that go with my major. Thanks for the site link , I just checked it out and found my major prerequisites. About that getting to those classes the lower classes will also be transfer classes?

@trojanfighton
It took long to get classes in order cuz I’m doing USC articulation and IGETC at the same time cuz I’m applying to some UC’s as safety schools if I get rejected from USC lol. You never know.
Major prerequisites look better than GE’s but you need as many GE’s as possible just so you don’t spend money at USC taking the classes. Yea as far as I know you need to take all or most of the lower division classes. I guess it’s to show you have interest in many things and your not some nazi bookworm bent on a single subject lol.

@DemiDyl
Yeah I understand, it is hard to get in, and I haven’t even thought of also completing IGETC but if it doesn’t go through, can’t you just use the already completed classes for IGETC? So double work doesn’t have to be done?

@trojanfighton
Yea that’s exactly what I’m doing, courses that satisfy both IGETC and the USC articulation. No double courses needed just completing both at the same time. You need to pick classes carefully and plan out your academics. Once you put the time in it all pays off.

@DemiDyl
Awesome! Ok sounds great! For fall semester I am barely going to start and take two or three of USC GE courses so I’m kinda getting good I guess lol. Honestly I barley started to find the classes I need and I still need to meet with my counselor from my College-once again-…I remember meeting with a rep from USC and I think I will contact him, which was a bad idea to not keep in touch with him, but I will have to start again and send him an email. Do you think the USC rep will help me more than the USC counselor? I did talk to a USC counselor but what else should I ask her? Can you give me some advice? Thanks 8)

@trojanfighton
Keep in contact with your rep & counselor they could help you out with most things. Just ask about what classes you have taken and if they transfer. Although most of the time they will answer with generic statements with things you might already know just stay in contact and ask performance based questions. Email them if you change anything and see if it will effect any outcomes. Contact twice a semester would be appropriate.
