Official USC 2013 Transfer Thread

Yes. I got my letter in the mail June 6th and the actual acceptance letter was dated the 2nd.

@SilverRex

Thanks for the reply!
Do you mind me asking what your GPA was at the time of your transfer to USC?
Also, did you have over or under 30 units when you applied?
Last question (I promise), what department were you accepted to?

Sorry for being annoying haha… Thanks again for the previous reply!

@sam1994: My GPA was 4.0 when I applied, and I had 56 transferable units. Although I applied to SCA/Annenberg, I got accepted into Dornsife first for whatever reason. But I’m a declared Communications major/Cinematic Arts minor now.

And no worries! Glad to help.

That sounds awesome. Can I do that? I heart the Cinematic Arts. I’ll be honest, all The Avengers props in the film building was another reason why my fiancee and fell in love with the place.

Yes, anyone can declare a Cinematic Arts minor, and there’s no application process for it. And I agree, that Avengers exhibit was pretty awesome. They keep changing the exhibit though, so it’s not there anymore.

On the topic of receiving acceptance letters etc. in the mail…I remember when I applied as a freshman to USC they ended up sending my rejection letter through email because I was international. I think I ended up getting the actual hard copy in the mail several weeks later. Hopefully the mail isn’t as slow this time around and isn’t a rejection letter. knocks on wood

Does anyone know the soonest a Transfer will receive a decision letter? I know the latest is June 1st. I actually applied way back in October '12 and I only recently learned that they’ve just began the decision process now :S

SilverRex would know, but I was under the impression that unless you’re some kind of magical über transfer, you probably won’t know until the end of May or early June. I know, I know. It sucks. It’s especially tough for me because I need to decide where to go and find a place for me and my significant other to live.

Also, if by some miracle USC decides to accept me (knock on wood, particle board and anything resembling wood-like material!) - you totally need to show me the ropes, SilverRex. Annenberg is my dream program and I want to know more about your minor. If you like any of the following, you’ll cement your status as future-Trojan-dude-to-know: Evil Dead II, Ghostbusters, Jaws and/or The Empire Strikes Backs.

I will allow Big Trouble in Little China, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz as substitutions.

@tariqari: I’ve seen people gradually get accepted throughout the month of May before, but I haven’t seen any sort of pattern to them. You’ll get it when you get it.

@RandomNewGuy: Absolutely. Cinematic Arts minor basically means you get a few classes from all the different concentrations within the film program. This semester I’m taking Motion Picture Camera, which is one of the things that Production majors get to do.

Also, I like Jaws, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz.

@SilverRex

Hey Rex, just have a question about legacy. I’m applying to Marshall and my father got his MBA at Marshall. Do you think this would have a big impact or not really? If you have any information on this please let me know. We really appreciate all your responses!

@SilverRex hey just wanted to give you some info to chance me… Ha. I’m transferring from a junior college in TX. 45 hours completed, all of my basics besides science, with a 3.53 Gpa. I’m also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, honor society. I applied for dornsife sociology. I know my gpa is not a 4.0, but I do have a strong upward trend the past few semesters of all A’s. I think I did a pretty good job on my essays also. Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.
Also a gold star on my app from you would also be great… Haha

And best of luck to everyone! Hopefully some of us will get lucky… Ha.

@RandomNewGuy best of luck to you as well. If I can’t get in hopefully you will

I appreciate that, tomred. Honestly, this forum has been a real great support group of sorts - which is odd, because I never imagined I’d be sucked into this kind of tension. I’m an older, non-traditional student and I’m not prone to being absorbed by the whims of an admissions office. Yet, there’s something about USC that has completely enamored both myself and my significant other to the institution.

However, reading some other posters’ credentials, I am forced to prepare myself for the very real possibility of rejection. Considering the kind of institution USC is, anyone that gets in is worthy of applause. I wish you all well.

@RandomNewGuy Keep your head up! You never know what could happen. I’ve heard of people with 2.0 GPAs getting accepted and 4.0s being rejected. It’s not necessarily all about the grades. Just relax and hope for the best :)

@RandomNewGuy I know what you mean… USC, tends to have that effect on people. Just remember if you do get in, celebrate and feel special. With that said though, at the same time getting rejected from USC is nothing to be ashamed about… Just look at Steven Spielberg. He was rejected not one, but two times. Lol

hey guys, I went through the same process you were going through 2 years ago. Went to UCI out of high school, then transferred into Marshall after one year at Irvine. if you have any questions, feel free to ask about anything, from greek life to the whole transfer process itself and all that funny business.

Does USC look at 2-year and 4-year colleges equally?

@jamesbball911 is it uncommon for sophomores and/or transfers to rush at USC? I’ve heard that they mostly are only interested in freshmen.

@ronaldot: Legacy is a pretty big deal for USC, so having your father on your application is going to be a big plus for them. It will bump up your chances, but it doesn’t guarantee admission.

@tomred: If the admissions officers agree with everything you’re saying, then you should have a decent shot. The fact that you have Phi Theta Kappa listed on your application is nice as well. Hopefully there’s an acceptance packet waiting in your mailbox come June 1st.

@katie9: It’s not an official word, but my own educated guess: they might consider 4-years more rigorous than 2-years. Thus, they might weigh a 3.8 at a 4-year differently than a 3.8 at a 2-year. Again, my guess.

@seets3000: I know your question wasn’t directed to me, but if it helps, I have two other friends that transferred with me, one sophomore and one junior, and they both got bids this past week.
