Hi everyone!

I’m looking to transfer into USC and I’m currently attending UCR. I was wondering if there was anyone that transferred from a UC to SC in 1 year?
Also, any advice on the personal statements?

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Does it look better if you finish all of the GE requirements than if you do just 2, like category I & II only? What about the foreign language and the diversity requirement?

Theyre recommended, not required.

What if I don’t have any of those GE requirements done for when I apply this fall, because I plan on taking them this spring semester? Does that look bad?

I need advice!

I have a feeling my chances are really low, but I’d love to hear your opinions and suggestions!

So this is my situation:

I really want to get out of community college and transfer to a university by Fall 2013. I was looking towards USC or UCI, but right now I don’t have enough units to transfer to a UC so I can only apply to USC this year.

I just started my second year (third semester) of college.

After my first year (two semesters) I completed 38 units and received a 3.7 GPA. All units are transferable BUT sadly, none satisfy GE requirements (except English).

Right now I’m only going to school part time (seven units) so by the end of this semester I’ll only have a total of 45 units.

Next semester (spring 2013) I’ll be sure to take only classes that satisfy GE requirements.

My SAT scores were okay and my GPA graduating high school was a 3.4.

I currently work two jobs, I volunteer at a children’s hospital, I’m active in my church, and I moved to California on my own after high school (if any of that information matters).

Oh and another thing that I know will lower my chances of getting accepted. I have ONE W. I had to drop my Calculus I class ):

I know technically next year if I go to USC I’ll be a junior, but unit wise I’d be considered a sophomore because I know by the end of Spring 2013, I won’t have 60 units.

I’m planning on applying as an undeclared major, but I’m thinking of kinesiology or biological science.

I actually want to finish my GE and start on my major classes at USC. I really don’t want to take them at a CC.

Should I still apply or? What should I do?

I just read in last years thread that none of the school forms are required. Can anyone confirm/deny?

The GEs I believe are not required, just recommended. I think with a 3.7 you have a solid chance of getting in.

Your choice whether you want to do some GEs in CC first or not.

I don’t think so.

For my question…

Do you guys think that it will have a huge impact if I get a B in my Math honors calc 2 class? I have a 4.0 right now and with that B ill have a ~3.85 with about 32 units completed. I am applying for Electrical engineering so I am worried.

Emprex- I think that is correct. According to page 3 on the USC Supplement Instructions, you do not need to send the common app college official’s report, you just directly send your grades to USC.

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/12_13Common_App.pdf

And to those that are worried about transfer credits, the best advice I think is to check the articulation page/history for your school and to send your advisor an email listing your courses. It’s also a great way to establish a connection with your USC advisor!

Thanks uscco1026.

@yakooza your GPA would still be high enough for you to be considered a competitive applicant, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Could you still take the recommended accounting classes during the summer, or do they have to be taken during the fall and spring semesters?

@shelbydwhite

I’m saying that im going to come out with 30 credits(or 31, still deciding on classes) but only 24(or 25) transferable credits. Do they go by transferable credits? or just your credits in general?

Well i have a few good ECs that i did and I’m about to talk to my academic advisor and see if i can volunteer/shadow a doctor at a hospital so i can put that down also. Im going to try my best.

Regardless if they judge me on my HS grades and SAT, im still going to apply. If i don’t get accepted im still going to try. Since i am legacy they’ll give me that paragraph at the bottom of the letter saying that they can help get me in and ill take that chance too. Although, trying my for the best the first time around is my focus.

ALSO! I don’t have enough posts to send you a msg for you to send me your essay, so my email is

Thank you!

@Coolkid094

Can you space out each character in your email address? I cannot read it because of the astericks at the end of it.

Also, they only count transfer credits. The GPA including your non transferable classes will NOT count. They will get rid of them on your system and recalculate your GPA that way. I suggest you start looking at only the transfer credits as your GPA from now on. It may seem a little lower than the original one, but that’s normal. Thats why its important to take as many transferable credits as possible. Even if they only count as electives, it will still count towards your GPA.

When I applied to USC as a first year, I was waitlisted, then denied afterward and I got a paragraph about a Trojan Transfer Plan. I am not a legacy though. Is this what you are referring to? If so, I thought they only did that for first year students trying to transfer.

Does USC put heavy weight on W (withdraws) courses?
Is it important enough to be the deciding factor between acceptance and rejection??

Also, does anyone know what happens if I already submitted the common application to USC with current semester courses, but if I end up dropping one course and get a W on it instead?

Thanks!

For Marshall, do you have to complete the Math and English prerequisites before applying? Or can you finish them up along with some GE’s during spring?

@shelbydwhite

****… that really scares me. I don’t want them looking at my HS grades or SAT :[ (ITS HORRIBLE!)

Has anyone been successful taking 21 credits in one semester and getting a high GPA? lol. That might look good as well if they see me trying super hard as well as volunteering.

Oh its @ ya hoo . com (spaced out) go ahead and send it. I’ll look over it

Oh… well i looked on around on CC and a legacy didn’t get in and he got the bottom paragraph. So im guessing i might get one too? Im not sure but i just really want to get IN!

oh and, you got in right?

Huh? USC doesn’t have a waitlist. They use Spring admission to manage enrollment.

@coolkid094

Yes I got in. I also took 21 units my spring semester and got a 3.69 that semester. If that helps at all.

@tocollege

You are correct. Sorry, i didn’t even realize what i was typing :o

The Trojan transfer plan is another form of being waitlisted, according to the counselor that I had last year who told me. Its like a one and/or two year agreement That’s what I meant. When they receive your application, you would already have a file in their system, which is like a list of pending students. Sorry for the false info!!

@shelbydwhite

did they all have a big work load? i just want to know if i can handle it. I think i could.

My future spring schedule:

-Math (precal 1&2 accelerated / math 108 at usc) [already would have completed needed math from this current semester]
-Writing (Gen Ed: lower writing division usc wants completed)
-Anthropology (Gen ed: category 2)
-Psychology (equivalent psy class at usc)
-Political Science (equivalent polsci at usc)

then 2 transferable electives which would probably be debated with:
-music
-art
-foreign language
-biology
-chemistry

I want to know what’d be more easy on me.
so 7 classes, and 21 credits from classes listed above

That look too tough? I’ll be willing to do it.
Then ill have 30 transferable credits, a lot of classes done, volunteering, and hopefully a good well written supplement. If this done, i think i’ll be a good candidate.

@coolkid094

That sounds good! Just know that you will have no life! I called my spring 2012 the semester from hell

Just make sure you stay on top of the classes! Upward trends are EXTREMELY important. Especially for competitive majors. And the fact that you are taking that many classes will impress!!
