@stanx89 ya thats smart. Im a business major, i have all the generals completed i just need accounting 2 and my business calc or regular calc to finish for my major classes would you suggest I take calc or Accouting 2 cause I’m scared I’m going to get sgr’d if I take calc in spring since it says Accouting can be completed at USC and I already took accounting 1. Any suggestions from former applicants as well?

I’m doing the same as stanx89, starting it early, especially the essays (probably later than August though), but not submitting it until my fall grades come out.
I have the minimum requirements done, I’m just finishing up the rest of my GE’s now.

@harry 188 I’m a business major too bro. I’m taking accounting 2 right now and will be taking business calc in the fall along with some other SC GE’s. Don’t wait until the spring to do business calc or regular calc because you will be SGR’d. The reason they SGR you is because you have not completed a req. They want to make sure you have completed that with a competitive grade in order for them to make a decision. I would suggest taking them both in the fall you will look more competitive. My suggestion is try to have all reqs don’t in the fall semester. so you can submit everything at once. Then you can chill in the spring. I know it will put me at ease if i have everything done by fall. so i can chill in the spring and not worry about too much.

@sayax what do GE’s do you have left to complete? whats you major? if it is business have you done business calc? have you done the requirements for your major?

@ harry188 and Xsayax where are you guys transferring from? Im coming from a California community college. any ideas on any kind of Ec’s I can do to build my resume? I’m lacking in those right now. any suggestions from former applicants can help too.

@stanx89 I’m hoping to get into the School of Dramatic Arts for a Theatre BA. But I’m wondering if I should apply to Dornsife for Psychology or Japanese (EALC) just as a back up, because even though I really want to get into the Theatre BA program, at least I could minor in it if I got into another major. But I don’t know if applying to other schools would hurt my chances of getting into SDA…
There’s pretty much no required classes, but I have to submit a supplementary packet to SDA.
As for GE’s I already finished category 1, I’m doing the science one this coming semester, and the other 3 (including diversity) my spring semester.

I’m also coming from a CCC, I’m from San Diego. I think I’m set for EC’s but as for ideas…
I probably won’t be any help maybe business internships?

@stanx89 ya I get what you are saying the problem is my calc and accounting are all during the same times for fall so it’s going to be hard to take both. If the only problem with taking calc during spring is that I will get sgr’d with a late reply then I’m okay with that sort of I guess lol idk I’m so confused on what to do on that I’m also from a community college from Pcc with all prerequisite done except from the last category but definitely will finish after fall my only problem is accounting and calc,

I might take regular calc would you guys suggest that?

@xsayax I dont think it would hurt you but if you put a back up major on your application it may increase your chance of getting in. I would make sure you put down Theatre and your first choice major though. I don’t think it will hurt you to have a second choice major.

@harry188 I think its a personal choice I’m taking business calc because the class i took before was a pre-req to it. I would recommend taking business calc first because accounting is not a requirement. Your just looked upon favorably if you took it. Oh yeah I’m coming from OCC in Orange County. I don’t think it matters which level of calculus you took. all you need to do is ace it. Harry do you know of any ec’s I can get involved with?

stanx89 I will be attending USC this Fall after 1 year at cc. I took classes full time at one cc and then I took 1 class each semester at another cc since I could not get it at my full time cc. You may want to consider doing that so you don’t end up having to wait until July to hear back from 'SC. You may want to read up on the transfer 2013 to see what it has been like for those who are waiting. Even though one of those classes was a late night class, it was worth it.
Fight On!!

@katie I have been taking over 18 units a semester for the past year, so the only thing I have left to take is business calc. I Have took both accounting classes and I will submit everything in my app by january. I think I hae done everthing I needed to to put myself in shape for transfer.

@katie the only thing i need to do is some ec’s. That message was not disrespectful by the way. does having Ec’s on your app even help you if your transferring in?

@stanx89 if you worked any part time job, if you were a cabinet member in an society on campus, involved in volunteering that has to do with your major, and I’m sure an internship wont hurt either paid or unpaid do something that you can write about. I’m sure if your gpa is 3.9+ ec will be looked at lightly but I believe maybe 3.6 and below you better be involved in something to balance it out. It’s all the in the application

@stanx89 @katie from what I heard is that USC looks closely at involvement as much as your grades, which Is one of the reasons I think it is a Great school cause they look to see how well rounded you are

I better get on it then bro. I’m a vet so I hope that helps.

But EC’s aren’t as important to transfers as they are incoming freshman.
That’s what I heard.

my bad I meant for my last post to be for harry188 not stanx89 . lol

harry188 I was told by an admissions counselor that the most important thing for transferring was grades. If you can have both great grades and strong EC then even better.

Does anyone know how additional credits over 64 units will be counted into the transfer/application gpa?

They count towards your GPA, but you can only transfer 60 units the rest of the classes will have to be retaken.

Hmm… so it counts in order of the first 60 taken.

I actually don’t know that. They may pick and choose, or they make take the stronger courses, or they make take the courses that best matriculate to the school. It’s no way to tell which courses they will take. You can call a counselor and ask them. That way we all will know what the deal is with that. Keep in mind if you took a lot of BS classes they might not transfer in.

My advice is to take the classes that you know are universal to all schools that way you don’t have to retake much classes.
