Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

So is it just me or is the common app website saying its on maintenance today

On the website for common app if you search USC it says the average gpa of incoming freshman class is 3.8 does that apply to transfers as well?

@harry188 last year the average transfer GPA was a 3.6 school wide.

@stanx89 maybe the 3.8 is for incoming freshman? Idk

@harry 188 I think it is if you go look on the SC website under transfers there is a brochure there on the right that gives you the transfer stats.

amms13 - The way it worked for me is I had 18 units by the time I applied in January. Then, on the Common App I wrote down the classes I had signed up for for spring. I was accepted before I finished my spring semester but my acceptance did state that I needed to finish those courses and I had to earn at least a 3.5 in those classes. I earned a 4.0 my first semester and a 3.9 my second semester. I finished the diversity requirement, the writing requirement (WRIT 140) and 3 GE’s. All my credits transferred. I checked back with the articulation agreement very carefully.
Fight on!

@katie617 thank you so much. It made more sense now. Btw is it true that they don’t honor college classes taken in a community college during high school?

Hey! I’m currently a student at CSUF and am applying this upcoming fall! :)

For any non-cc students, what are we supposed to fill in for the advisor section under Education? I’ve been doing this all by myself up to this point…

Looking for a roommate for the upcoming school year!

So we’re living at City Park, which is like a block away from campus. We have a 3 bedroom apartment with 4 guys so far, looking to make it 5. If you want a single it’s gonna cost about 800 dollars without utilities, if you want a double it’ll be about 400. Please let me know if you’re interested!

@jimmylee do you know what we put under advisor if we are a community college student, will it be out academic advisor at the cc that we go to?

Hi everyone! I’m transferring to USC in the spring of 2014 from a 4-year university, feel free to ask me any questions on here or send me a private message!

@JimmyLee If memory serves me correctly, I put my academic advisor’s name and info in that section.

@ajmay did you take any community college classes in high school? And did they count credit wise with usc?

@ajmy17 what 4 yr university did you come from? And ooh I’m an incoming freshman to csun, and I’m hoping to transfer to USC for fall 2014. How was the process for you? And what’s your stats? And finally!! I’ve been looking for someone who came from a 4 yr university who transferred to USC, or planning on transferring. Haha.

@uscmaybe I didn’t take any community college classes in high school, sorry! But this is what the USC transfer brochure has to say about that:

“College courses taken during high school: We accept a maximum of 16 elective units, included in the 32-unit combined maximum for AP/IB credits. These courses must be taught by college faculty on a college campus, appear on your college transcript as part of the regular Planning Your Transfer 17 college curriculum and must not be applied to your high school diploma. They can fulfill General Education categories I, II, III or V. They cannot fulfill the Writing, Diversity or ForeignLanguage requirements nor receive equivalence to USC courses.”

Hope that helps! Here’s the link to the Transferring to USC brochure: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1314/TransferringToUSC_2013.pdf

@amms13 Penn State. The process wasn’t too bad. Very similar to applying to USC as a freshman, in my opinion. Here’s the link to the USC Transfer Decisions 2013 thread, you can find my stats on post #21. Definitely check that out if you want a better idea of the stats of people who got accepted. Haha, well I’m happy to help.

@ajmy17 do you know if the personal essay for the common app is the general one that goes to all the schools, which means I shouldn’t mention specifics of one certain school?

@harry188 Yes, I believe that is the essay that goes to all of the schools. If you are applying to several schools I would definitely stay away from mentioning specifics of a certain school, unless all of the schools you are applying for all have something in common that plays a factor in why you want to go there (e.g. a specific program). I’m not sure if the CommonApp has changed at all, but I know that when I applied as a freshman, I was able to create different versions of my application so I could tailor my personal essay to each school. I don’t remember specifically how to do that, but if you do some searches on this forum or google you should be able to find it.

Hello,

I will be an upcoming senior this year in high school (lol). Anyways I plan on attending a community college when I graduate, and then transfer to USC as a sophomore. I know I have quite a long way to go. I recently took the SAT and got a 1600 because I did not study, and I was wondering if I should re-take the SAT in fear of my score being too low. I do not want my low score to interfere with my transfer to USC in the future. If that low score will interfere then by all means I will retake it. If anyone could answer my question, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you so much!!! :~)

@beansdowd I’m also a rising senior lol looks like there is a couple of us…if you manage to get 30 college credits by the end of your spring semester, freshman year at college I think you don’t have to send it in. However, if you retake it and manage to get at or above the freshman sat scores I would send them in.

@Katie617 So you applied to USC with your Writing requirement incomplete, listed it as planned, and was accepted? Does this mean that we can plan to finish a requirement in our spring semester? I thought everything had to be done when we turned the application in.
