Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

I took summer classes and online intersession classes (4 weeks) at my CC. They appear as regular classes on my transcript but will USC know as they discourage these short term classes?

maybe if they ask for class syllabus i guess

Hey guys, I currently attend a private university in Los angeles and I want to transfer to USC for fall of 2015! My high school record is not impressive because I took very hard classes throughout but did somewhat poorly. Anyway, for my fall semester I am taking 13 units and for spring I’m taking 18 for a total of 31! I am a Global Studies major which is in Dornslife, do I have a chance of getting in? My gpa is a 3.8 and I’m not doing a competitive major like film or engineering. Is there a chance for me since my high school record is not very good at all
My classes are as followed:
Fall:
Math
English
Western civilization
Political science
Intro to college ( have to take it at my school)
Spring:
Philosophy in culture
Sociology 1
World religions
English
Fundamentals in art
Psychology 1
Is this good enough?

if i drop a class will i have no chance of transferring into usc?

@munyi123 That depends if you have dropped previous classes before. 1 W is acceptable. It is not liked but they will allow it. Anything more than that affects your chances. They really do not like Ws.

@munyi123‌ better not. avoid W’s at all cost. unless it doesn’t show on your transcript

Anyone? Bump*

Hey everyone!

I am international student applying to Marshalls this Fall as a business admin major.
I’m so nervous about this whole application process since USC is my dream school!

I have a few questions that some of you guys might know or have heard the answer about:

First, I’m wondering if USC really cares about the level of involvement in EC activities. I am in student government at my CCC as commissioner. I just got promoted to senator but I’m contemplating-- whether I should take it or not because I heard from a friend that the level it doesn’t really matter.

Second, I’m currently taking Calculus and am afraid I will get a B in this class. One B will not hurt me but I am worried that this will be a disadvantage since it is a major requirement. It will also cause a downward trend in my grades,

What do you think?

@uscdaughter2015‌ no problem! You can definitely use high school EC. But I would highly recommend that you show some EC activities you did in college right now. They will really like the college EC activities, and honestly won’t look much at the high school EC activities. Get at least a 3.7, do some EC activities in college, finish all the classes you need for your major for USC, and write a good application. If you do all those things you will surely get in to USC. I went to the Transfer Day which was last week, and the they gave us all the information for transferring to USC.

Hi, I am attending a 4-year private university and looking to transfer to USC as a sophomore standing. If there is any current USC student who has been accepted as a transfer and would offer some time, PLEASE pm me and I would love to ask you some questions. Thank you and good luck everyone!

@jankeety‌ Hit me up

Hey there everyone,

I’ve been lurking around the 2014 and 2015 transfer threads to get a bette idea of what I need to do in order to get into USC. Finally decided that the time was appropriate to post something. I feel like I have a pretty unique backstory that may work in my favor.

I’m a first generation Mexican-American and Samoan-America 24-year old husband and father to two girls under 3. About a year ago, I decided that I was ready to enroll into a local CC after taking 5 years off after high school. I was able to secure a well paying job with no college experience during that 5 year span and I also got married and had two daughters. I’m finishing up my 2nd full semester now and have maintained a 4.0 through 23 total units, 18 of which are transferrable. I’ve done this while working 50+ hours a week with two children and having over 100+ hours of community volunteer work while I’ve been enrolled. I also have short stories that will be published in a national literary magazine and am in the process of starting a local magazine that will distribute our content in both print and digital formats. I’m editor-in-chief of that magazine and we’ll also have a digital presence that will allow us to release digital content, outside of the magazine, daily. My CC is on a semester system and after I finish this Fall 2014 semester, I plan on taking 39 units between the Spring 2015, Summer 2015 and Fall 2015 semesters. 34 of those units should be transferrable.

Obviously we’re looking into the future but my aim is to maintain my 4.0 GPA while being in honors society, on the academic honors list and continuing to work, volunteer and develop the magazine. That would leave me with 62 units total, 52 of them being transferrable. Unfortunately, the academic counselors at my CC aren’t the most helpful and I’ve not been able to obtain a response from a USC counselor, so I’m not sure if it’s even necessary to have that many units to transfer. That is why I’ve come to you guys. My major is journalism, so I’ll be an Annenberg applicant. Therefore, I’m avoiding most Mass Comm and Journalism classes that my CC offers because I’ve heard that the units won’t transfer.

Is there anyone that can give me an idea of what I should focus on to get into the Annenberg and what my chances are like if I am able to maintain a 4.0 with my resume?

Thanks in advance!

Hey what’s up everyone! Could someone let me know on what my chances are getting into USC. I am attending a California CC, Santa Monica College to be specific. By the time I finish my spring 2015 semester before fall 2015 I will have finished all the general ed requirements for USC. Right now my GPA is 3.81, but right now I have straight As so after this fall 2014 semester it could go up hopefully to a 3.88. I am a political science major. I am a full time student however I am also working part time in the family business. As far as my other activities go, I am part of the desi (Indian) club at my school, over the summer of 2014 I did an internship in India, I wrote a petition on the White House website however did not get enough signatures, and I have done some community service in my local Hindu temple. However I have a W in one of my classes during my first semester of college. However this was a class I did not need for my major. How are my chances guys? I really want to get into USC and have been working hard!

Yo whats good CollegeConfidential. I hate to be that guy, but yes I’m gonna ask for you guys to chance me, and give me any positive criticism on how to succeed.
I always wanted to go to USC but never saw myself going, it was more of a dream. Starting 2014 I just developed a crazy obsession in doing what I want in life, currently my magnificent obsession is to get in to USC. Here are stats.

Sophomore at CSULB
Current GPA: 3.55 , taking 16 units right, now I will for sure get a 4.0, the amount of effort I’m putting in will not allow me to get any less. When the semester ends, I will have around a 3.72 with 48 units completed.

I will be applying as a Psychology major (Dornslife). I have currently taken GE Categories I,II,III, the Diversity Requirement, and, all the requirements available for my major which is psychology ( MATH 114 & PSYCH100). I currently only need GE Category V, and the language requirement.

The english requirement I am not sure about(if someone could clarify that would be awesome) I have only completed one semester of english, which is ENGL100, but on the transfer planning guide it says the following.
WRIT130 ={(ENGL 100 & 318I) OR (ENGL 100 & FEA 318I) OR ENGL 101 OR ENGL 102 OR ENGL 300}
So im assuming I need to take either ENGL 101 or 102 to complete my requirement, as I can’t take 300 level courses till I am a junior.

As for ECs
I have volunteered in a aquarium and habitat for humanity (High school and beginning of college)
I created my own club in High School
Participate in Independent Research ( High school till now)
I am responsible for doing all the car maintenance within the family ( High school till now)
I did more ECs during High school but last year I got a job as a Assistant Property manager, so I tend to have less time.
I am currently attempting to volunteer at a hospital, hopefully that will be set up soon.

Letters of Recommendation
I have already gotten 2, one from my English Professor, and another from my College Advisor.

I will make sure to write some awesome Essays, currently working on them.

Please let me know if there are anyways I can make myself a better candidate, any criticism is welcomed. Also if anyone knows more about the English Requirement let me know thanks!

hey guysss!

does Marshall accept sophomore transfers?

@LABrolo‌ … As an Annenberg student, I think you have a good shot but it’s a competitive program and weighing chances is like reading tea leaves.

I was able to transfer in 62 units, but it’s not necessary and I had to repeat a couple of courses. It’s really just important to knock out foreign language and the transferrable GEs–anything beyond that limits your chances to take advantage of the university (like declaring a minor).

As a first-generation college student who went to college later in life (I’m 30-years-old now), I totally get it and I have a lot of respect for you. Good luck.

Hey guys! I got accepted last year for spring 2015. If you’d like to see my stats and info that I put on my app, please go to the accepted page of fall 2014 transfers. I am going to attend and I am thrilled! If you guys want to know about the app process or want any advice or suggestions, don’t hesitate to ask. I literally planned to go to usc since highschool and anticipated on applying for 3 years. I researched which necessary classes to take (such as pre-reqs and GEs) just so my stakes would be higher on getting it. I am willing to help anyone with any concerns. I was once like you, ready to apply and attend already! (As you can see, I’m still waiting to actually go lol) Please message me if its personal or shoot a comment! FIGHT ON PERSPECTIVE STUDENTS!

Also have any of you guys done the request information thing for transfer/info about your majors? Do they send anything helpful? I requested info like a week ago so I don’t know how long it takes/if it’s worth while.

@msmclagirl based off of your info and username, I’ve noticed that we currently attend the same school! I can also tell you are a freshman, I am as well. I am applying to transfer to USC fall 2015, too. Unfortunately, since you will only have 13 units completed by the time you apply, USC will heavily consider your high school record. I’m currently taking 18 units and I took four courses at a CC prior to attending here, so I’ll have 30 units by the time the application is due so USC won’t consider my high school grades, test scores etc. Also, fyi, just because our school says some classes are “required” or whatever, does not mean you are forced to take them, for instance, although I am a freshman, I am NOT taking SPR (its a waste of time since I plan on transferring) Again, I go to your school, so if you’re interested on talking more about USC and what not, message me! I know quite a bit about this process and I would love to help, we should def meet up

@Beachbum0130 yes they do! as long as u meet certain requirements!

Has anyone else received USC’s merit scholarship reminder in the mail? i didn’t get one last year and didn’t apply lest year, anyone have any insight on it? deadline is December 1st
