Both because then I can’t blame the postman for losing my packet and my email for spamming the message :-B
mellyjune, Remember every dollar that is included in a merit scholarship award has been donated by alumni or friends of USC. Those funds do not come “out of the air”. One exception is the $1000 per year NM Scholarship grants from the National Merit Foundation. As an alumna I wish the number of merit scholarships could be increased, if only donors could be found!
From time to time I post a long, long list of continuing student scholarships. It touches my heart to see the large number of memorial scholarships, those given to honor a deceased student or graduate.
Georgia Girl I know that nothing comes “out of the air” I wasn’t complaining about the lack of scholarships. I was just expressing my wish to receive one because that’s would be AMAZING and I know how may qualified people there are out there and logistically not every person can receive one.
It is so difficult to be patient and wait a little longer. Best wishes for the golden packet to be in your mailbox on Monday.
Thank you for the encouragement but also being an alumna who hangs around here to calm those of us who may or may not be pulling out our hair in apprehension haha (don’t worry I don’t actually do that… haha)
.
Wait you go to bhhs?
In past years, USC has sent out merit scholarships in waves (late January then early-mid February). Do you think they will do that again this year?
@vivid297 @shark235235 @Itsdomoo Keep in mind there are other options for you if you don’t get into SCA, but do get into USC. It was my son’s dream to get into the SCA (Film and Television Production), but he didn’t get in. He did get into NYU’s Tisch Program, so I knew he had the talent, but it wasn’t quite up to USC. But, he was so emotionally invested in USC that he went there anyway. USC’s Marshall School of Business has a one-of-a-kind joint major with SCA called the Business Cinematic Arts Program. Getting rejected from SCA but getting into BCA was the best thing that ever happened to my son. He still got to take roughly half his coursework as cinema classes toward his major and had some courses that were exclusive to the BCA. Plus he got practical knowledge about the business side of the industry and about business in general. Don’t get me wrong SCA is amazing and prestigious. But with the BCA, my son has a practical degree that pays the bills. The BCA is also a bit competitive, so if you get into USC but don’t get into SCA make sure you apply for the Business school and the BCA right away. Also, you can always reapply as a transfer student to the Film and TV program after your sophomore year. Finally, I understand it is much easier to get into the Critical Studies program, so if you get accepted to USC but not your desired SCA major, you can always got to USC anyway and apply for the Critical Studies, even as a freshman.
Following link is about scholarship finalists notification for this year:
http://dailytrojan.com/2015/01/25/admissions-announces-scholarship-finalists/
On Dec. 1, 2014, approximately 28,000 students around the world applied to USC to be considered for USC merit scholarships. Last Friday, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions released the decisions to the 1,200 finalists.
…there are four major awards that are need-blind: the Mork Family Scholarship, the Trustee Scholarship, the Stamps Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship.
…approximately 700 finalists for the Presidential Scholarship and fewer than 500 total for the other three…
As to what they look for in candidates for these scholarships, Brennan said they want students “who will make the biggest impact here at USC,” and that can take many forms. Every candidate has excellent grades and test scores, but the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is looking for glowing letters of recommendation; demonstration of strong engagement not only in school but also in their community, and a strong character and good leadership skills in general. These students are expected to make contributions that will greatly impact and improve the university.
@co4usc2016 thanks for the link!
The mail just came in CT, nothing. But two of my friends who were scholarship finalists last year got their packets on a Tuesday. This MASSIVE blizzard is about to dump 35 inches on us, so it looks like I’ll be waiting until at least Wednesday (if ever). UGH.
I’m thinking this must be a typo: “The remainder of the applicants that were not chosen as scholarship finalists will hear back from the university in early May.” Not early May?!!!
Since you have to notify schools by May 1st, yes, that has to be an error. End of March usually for RD.
what about the interview for Iovine and young academy? When are they supposed to go out?
Accepted!!! Just got my admissions packet today!!! Finalist for Presidential scholarship! Postmarked the 23rd!
Where are you from @bookaddiiict
@Itsdomoo NJ
Congrats! Wow, you have really early mail service. You must be at the beginning of the mail route! Hopefully the east coast students get there’s before the storm pushes in.
CONGRATULATIONS @bookaddiiict
