Wooaah…wait so does that mean we are getting our decisions by that date??? @CaliCash
Only those being considered for the scholarship will be sent the acceptance letters, and the rest applied before 12/01/2014 will get a letter stating that they are not being considered for the scholarships (and decisions will be out around middle or end of 03/2015).
I am guessing this year the date will be 01/23/2015 (Friday), how fast the students get the letters will depend on the postal service.
Oh so it is still the same as the years before? Or is that all December 1st applicants will find out about their decisions regardless of scholarship?
@ninadasiy: This is what I think, unless someone in the know say it is different this year.
“application update” is consistent with USC’s recent policy of sending a letter saying you did not get invited for a merit interview, and all decisions will come out before April 1. It does not mean a decision: USC has no EA. Last year, USC had over 27,000 applications by the Dec 1 date. They must very quickly review all those applications to select finalists, which comprise about 3% of that pool. That lucky 3% get notified at the end of January (admitted and finalist for named award), but everyone else is in the giant pool of applicants which include those who apply up to the normal deadline.
@madbean Im confused, though! Because if you look at the 2013 decisions from last year, many people got in around 1/26 without any scholarships, so was it different last year or what? Here’s the link http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1451616-fall-2013-usc-decisions-stats-only-thread-congratulations-p3.html
@jakerzz97, those were likely Dean Scholarship recipients. Since Dean Scholarships do not require interviews, they should receive the Dean Scholarship letters later than the acceptance letters.
@co4usc2016 Thanks for clearing that up! Oh my gosh I can’t wait any longer, I am so excited to hear back!
Is it safe to assume that scholarship decisions will come first through snail mail rather than the online portal, just like past years?
@FriendlyNerd888, I would assume so as it seems to be the standard procedure. As for the December 1st deadline, I had a question about the scholarships… So I submitted the common app application before the 1st deadline but did not send my scores until mid-december. Would I still be considered for the scholarships? Or am I no longer eligible since my complete application was not submitted by that date?
Hey! What’s the percentage of students that are offered these awesome scholarships? As excited as I am to potentially hear good news in late Jan/Feb, how likely is it really? I, too, called the admissions office a few days ago… they told me that basically (like everyone else already said) they will release acceptances to the people with the big scholarships… the rest will be released in March/April. Even though there is so specific standardized test scores and GPA required to be considered, is it truly just those “academically near perfect” students?
@nnocnat2, look at the very informative thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1597366-tips-insights-observations-and-scoop-on-uscs-top-merit-scholarships-p1.html
How do you read this: 230 NMS are part of 351 Presidential?
can anyone confirm that students awarded with the dean scholarship are given the early acceptance letter in late january?? I know people who are up for the presidential and trustee are accepted but do those given deans get to know if they got in early too?
@co4usc2016 Thank you very much for the link! I read the whole thing and found it extremely helpful!!
So is it safe to assume that the kids who are getting these scholarships are like the cream of the crop kids who are using usc as a safety for ivys. Because most of the kids at my school are which is somewhat annoying given that I REALLY WANNA GO HERE!
As far as I understand the one who get those scholarships are the one who normally will get into the top schools. And USC wants those kids.
@lovely9775935 I have this exact same question. I’m really hoping those with the dean scholarship find out this month too but from previous years it looks all of the scholarships besides the top 4 (Morks, Stamps, Presidential, & Trustee) don’t get the news until the regular decision release date in March/April.
@couplemoreweeks yesss I totally agree! I really wish USC had some sort of EA or ED program seeing that it’s my number one school. I mean don’t get me wrong, congrats to the people who get the scholarships but if you don’t care too much for it and are just gonna end up at Harvard or something anyway then it just turns out to be a disappointment for some of those other applicants that are highly qualified but not at the top TOP
@kayleighpearl, yes, Thornton students who receive Presidential/Trustee scholarship invites DO get early acceptances as well.
