Hello beautiful Trojan hopefuls! I’m a currently Trustee Scholar who remembers the life-changing day when I got that January acceptance letter. I thought I’d come on here and give some encouragement because I know how stressful this agonizing wait can be. We at the university are in the process of preparing an amazing program for scholarship invitees, so even on campus there’s excitement in the air!
I lived in Southern California, about 50 miles from USC. They sent out the letters of the 24th of January and I received mine on the 25th. Those packages travel fast, with those closest obviously receiving them soonest. Don’t freak out if people begin posting here about their acceptance and scholarship interview offers and you haven’t received letter yet. Give it a few days! Last year, even some people closer to USC than I live did not receive theirs as soon as I did. It’s just a function of the mail system, so patience is key!
In answer to a previous post from a page or two ago, the hardest major percentage wise is the School of cinematic Arts’ Film and Television Production Major. 4% of students are accepted. If you receive an acceptance into the program, be very, very, honored.
Another question I noticed from above, the Dean’s scholarships are sent at the same time as the Trustee, Presidential, Stamps, and Mork Family. The package will be the same, but the difference will be that the Dean’s package will not contain a paper with scholarship information on it. If you receive an early package but do not find a page including “Merit Scholarship Status”, you have been award a 1/4 scholarship. Congrats! Be very, very honored.
Just anticipating some future questions that I had when I was part of this process: Yes, there is the possibility that a Presidential scholarship candidate can be bumped up to a Trustee scholarship. It’s not common, but it’s also not rare. My roommate is the perfect example of this (Annenberg, Communications major). Your interview is your chance to prove to your school that you deserve to be honored for character and rewarded for your efforts. Give it everything you’ve got. plays Eminem Lose Yourself
People always ask what kind of student will receive a scholarship, and the typical (and somewhat truthful answer) is that the scholarships are offered to extremely high GPA/SAT/ACT students who could otherwise attend an Ivy. I have meet several follow scholars who turned down offers to Yale and Harvard and Standford because of such a tantalizing offer. HOWEVER, and I can’t stress this enough: YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY YOUR NUMBERS.
What USC wants more than anything are students they can be proud of and alumni who will carry on their name and legacy with pride. They want students who they can tell will have a positive impact on their field. Scholarships are not just opportunity for students, they are opportunities for the university. Interview tip: USC wants to pay for your greatness and your future impact. Prove to them that they’re making a good purchase.
I think that’s all for now. I’ll answer any questions I can, just ask! I wish you all luck with the pain of waiting. I know it can’t be lessened. Your world is about to get a whole lot bigger very soon. Can’t wait to meet the next class of Trojans.
FIGHT ON.
