Hey, just received USC packet which is weird bc according to the UPS tracker thing, it was supposed to come yesterday. Anyway, don’t be discouraged. It could still possibly be on the way!
Finalist for Presidential Scholarship btw. Undeclared Major. Dornsife.

@JPruneski8 did you personally get an email saying that or is that a rumor? I didn’t get any emails
This may be wrong because the person on the phone sounded more like a student worker than an actual admission officer. But, he told me that those who were being considered for scholarships, as well as, those who were not being considered for scholarships but still being considered for regular decision were sent letters in the mail over the weekend.
Hey guys, I just got off the phone with a lady in freshman admissions. (My portal hasn’t changed, but I have yet to receive any letters/emails). She said it was her understanding that they had sent out emails to all applicants last night and that portals have been updated to reflect current status (as in, whether or not we are merit scholarship finalists). She said she would be notifying someone else to fix the problem. This sounds in line with what @shrinkmom heard.
The guy who spoke to me said that all letters were mailed by snail mail, not email. Portal hasn’t changed at all.
Has anybody from the northeast received their packet yet?
Email from USC:
"I am writing to first-year candidates who submitted their applications by December 1, in time for consideration for USC merit scholarships. I want to update you on the status of our admission review, and our scholarship selection process.
Scholarship Selection
Nearly 29,000 students applied in time to be considered for merit scholarships. We have offered admission to approximately 1,200 students who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for our top awards: the Mork Family, Stamps Leadership, Trustee, and Presidential scholarships. I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for these awards.
Your application will still be considered for other awards listed on our Scholarships page, and I encourage you to apply for financial aid if you have not already done so. Visit the Financial Aid website for application instructions. Also, if you are admitted, named a National Merit Finalist and select USC as your first-choice institution, you will receive a USC Presidential Scholarship worth one-half tuition.
Admission Selection and Notification
Your application is still being considered for admission. We are planning to offer admission to approximately 8,000 additional first-year students. We will mail these notifications so you have the decision by April 1. I am grateful for your patience as you wait for us to finish this difficult work."
The woman I just spoke with told me that not every aspect of every information system has been updated, but will be by the end of the week. So those who still have no packet, email, or portal change should not assume anything, because updates (and mail deliveries) will continue until the end of January.
My S just got an email saying they are sorry to say that he is not being considered for one of these awards. Over 29,000 students applied and only 1200 were offered top awards. Mork, Stamps, Trustee, and Presidential. Application will still be considered for other Scholarships. Good luck to everyone else. At least we aren’t waiting for something that isn’t coming!
Kind of irritated. I know the process is holostic but I thought I had a pretty decent shot at one from Marshall with a 36 ACT, 4.0 uw, and several state/regional awards related to business
My son didn’t do the alumni interview, and I don’t know if that impacted one’s chances.
For those who got the USC scholarships and accepted, did anyone not do the alumni interview?
@ccggp101
I’m sorry to hear about that! The acceptance rate for the scholarship finalists is about 4%, or below even Stanford’s admission rate, so don’t feel too badly! Good luck with your future ventures
Is it good or bad if we didn’t get an email?
@ccggp101 I feel your pain.
Note that the email says nothing about the Dean’s Scholarships. When do you think we are likely to hear about that, and is it possible (slightly possible?) that those who have no portal change, no mail, and no email may be in that stack?
Or I guess it is possible that kids who get the Dean’s Scholarship are kids who try out for, and do not get, the other, full scholarships. It is hard to believe you could be a finalist for that and emerge with nothing. So it may be they have already identified the entirety of their scholarship pool.
