@tinyone Don’t lose hope! One failure does not define who you are!
@tinyone Definitely not time to pull out those articles. Only 4% of the december 1 and before applicants were admitted for a chance at one of these scholarships. They still have 8,000+ acceptances to send out in march.
ANYONE ELSE GET THIS
"January 27, 2015
Dear C,
I am writing to first-year candidates who submitted their applications by December 1, in time for consideration for USC merit scholarships. I want to update you on the status of our admission review, and our scholarship selection process.
Scholarship Selection
Nearly 29,000 students applied in time to be considered for merit scholarships. We have offered admission to approximately 1,200 students who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for our top awards: the Mork Family, Stamps Leadership, Trustee, and Presidential scholarships.
*C, I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for these awards.
Your application will still be considered for other awards listed on our Scholarships page, and I encourage you to apply for financial aid if you have not already done so. Visit the Financial Aid website for application instructions. Also, if you are admitted, named a National Merit Finalist and select USC as your first-choice institution, you will receive a USC Presidential Scholarship worth one-half tuition.
Admission Selection and Notification
Your application is still being considered for admission. We are planning to offer admission to approximately 8,000 additional first-year students. We will mail these notifications so you have the decision by April 1. I am grateful for your patience as you wait for us to finish this difficult work.
Mid-Year Reports
If you or your school counselor has not already done so, please submit your mid-year report: your final grades from the first term of your senior year. You can report them online at you.usc.edu, or your school can send them to us.
I hope you found this information helpful. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us online or at (213) 740-1111.
Sincerely,
Kirk Brennan
Associate Dean and Director
Undergraduate Admission"
Seems like limbo is not good news, folks. Virtually every one us of chiming in this evening acknowledging receipt of email. As for Dean’s, my thought is that folks who are up for major scholarships but do not receive it will likely be first in line. I am not trying to be a downer; I think we all have a great shot in RD, and I am very hopeful! From what I read, moreover, there is very generous aid to those who need it. Merit aid is about buying a group who might otherwise not have come. In a way, all of us will be better off (assuming good news in March) for this purchase. Cheers.
I applied to the BA Theatre program in the School of Dramatic Arts. Absolutely no word yet of any kind (portal, email, mail)
Everyone here is getting responses for things like Econ and engineering etc
How come we theatre people have not heard yet? Anyone have any insight?
@Kquizzle I know someone got into SCA so its seems virtually every school has come up except a few although many many people don’t use CC or even if they do they don’t have an account or comment
The number of scholarships recipients as noted on the Freshmen profile are those who were awarded scholarships and decided to enroll.
They offered more than 120 Trustee scholarships but not all decided to attend. My daughter was awarded Presidential scholarship last year but chose to attend an Ivy.
To those who received an acceptance package, was information regarding the scholarship you received (Presidential Scholarship or Trustees) within the acceptance package or in another separate letter?
Got THE email
Anyone know when the dean decisions will be mailed out? And also when are the earliest regular no-scholarship decisions mailed out?
@Yellersam , about what kind of information are you inquiring? There is a very subtle mention at the bottom of one of the plain black and white pages under the heading “merit scholarships” and there is also a laarge, colorful brochure within the packet about the particular scholarship weekend.
I still have no mail, no email, no portal change. I’m still in limbo. I have a feeling limbo isn’t good place to be.
Got the email, eh not really sweating it. Congrats to everyone that got a scholarship!! Now I can finally stop thinking about college til March lol
@LegacyMom Hmm… I only received three plain black and white pages, and I see no mention of merit scholarships. Does that mean I received a Deans Scholarship and was not qualified to proceed to interview for the others?
@Yellersam
You may or may not have received the Dean’s scholarship, but given previous years, your odds are looking pretty good! You’ll find out later in March-- good luck!
@emhelm13 , I have no idea, I am at a loss for how a rich, white, male with a 31 ACT lands a merit scholarship to USC. You know him, so you would know better than I. All I can speculate is that he has a particular talent it cinema, music, theater or fine arts that made him desirable beyond academics – or that he did something particularly accomplished in business or charity. (Or maybe he is pulling your leg?) That said, you have to not take it personally and not compare yourself to others. Just getting into USC is a major accomplishment and I can’t imagine they would turn down a 4th generation with a 34 on the ACT.
Dang! I really regret not applying by Dec 1 The waiting game is slowly killing me! Oh well, congrats to everyone who received their decision this week. The rest of us have to wait another 2 months 8-|
This is going to sound so delusional, but here goes…
I received the “no scholarship” email a few hours ago, which said I wasn’t being considered for Mork, Stamps, Trustee, and Presidential. Does this mean I have no chance of receiving an acceptance this week for Dean’s?
@Yellersam, if you didn’t get a mention of a scholarship, I think that means your are in the running for a Dean’s scholarship.
@emhelm13
I’m sorry to hear that! However, just comparing yourself to a person with race and ACT score hurts you in the long run-- don’t dwell on it! Until you know this student’s entire story it’s not fair to attack them on a public forum solely because they received an award you feel you should have gotten.
