So I got an email from USC asking for mid year grades. Is this generally a good thing or a bad thing.
@curryfever12 - neither, they just want some senior grades to make sure you’re not taking 3 gut classes and you have good grades
@curryfever12 They ask for mid year reports for everyone.
Question: Why do they have different decision dates for scholarship and non scholarship applicants? Like, they’ve obviously read the application thoroughly to decide if you should get it. So why the extra delay?
@calicash it seems you check both the USC thread and Miami thread as often as I do
Would a mix of B’s/A’s (3 AP’s) senior year hurt me?
@CaliCash Because they probably haven’t finished reading the apps of people who applied later on, after December. And to decide whether to still accept y’all pre-December applicants, they have to compare your apps to the entire ~50k of applicants who are still under review (pre-December + post-December). Sooo more competition, sadly. They don’t know if they can admit/deny you unless they make sure they want you more/less than the post-December people.
Can anyone familiar with the USC/LA area recommend a couple of good hotel options? The Marriotts by Staples center are a bit pricey and the Luxe City Hotel is not available for our dates. Looking at the Hilton Checkers Los Angeles. Trip advisor is a great help, but personal recommendations are better. We’ll have a car. Thanks!
Checkers is nice but has small rooms, and is older. For our money, the Radisson across the street is great for dealing with USC - $20/nt parking and you walk across the street. Depending on when you need to get to campus, traffic will kill you on weekdays from other nicer locales. All of the downtown hotels will charge minimum of 40-50/night for parking, which is not a great value comparatively when you look at all-in cost. If you are OK with a 15-20 min drive, you could do the Loews Hollywood, which is normally on Hotwire for pretty good rates. But again, not recommended if you need to travel to USC during a weekday.
The Vagabond is two blocks away and about $150 a night. It’s a basic motel but the customer service is good and parking is free.
I posted in another thread, but want to get idea what others think.
I think this is a “tea leaves kind of question”.
My D applied to RHP for fall 2015, and received the following email today:
Dear ???:
As a top-rated private institution in the heart of Los Angeles, the University of Southern California offers its students unparalleled opportunities. Our students benefit from the resources of a large research university and thrive in the supportive, nurturing environment typical of much smaller institutions. According to information we received from the College Board, we think you might appreciate such an opportunity.
As a student at USC, you would enjoy:
A global perspective and rich cultural diversity that mirror the international community.
Research and community service opportunities in nationally recognized programs, often as early as your first year.
Top-ranked academic programs in interdisciplinary programs that combine academic rigor with professional development.
More than 850 student clubs and organizations.
World-class faculty engaged in developing new insights, technologies and creative work.
Financial aid and merit scholarships to help meet your USC-determined financial need.
The Trojan Family, now more than 300,000 strong and supporting each other through mentorship and networking opportunities, lifelong and world-wide.
If you would like more information about academics, financial aid and student life at USC, as well as a personal invitation to visit our campus, please visit you.usc.edu and tell us more about yourself. (Use ??? as your ID number.)
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,

It sounds like a generic email. My questions are:
- Did every RHP applicants get this email?
- Any other applicants got this email?
- If not, does it mean good thing is coming? or just wishful thinking?
What do you think?
I think this is a generic email. My D, class of 2016, received this letter last year and I think this year as well. She did not apply to this program and is not interested in any early admission programs, but she has high stats. So it is probably connected to the College Board test scores.
@seal16: you may be right, but there are some specific info (such as the USC ID) that make it confusing. Anyway, it is most likely a generic email to everyone.
My third son, a high school junior, received the same email today even though he has only applied to the Summer Program for High School Students thus far. He did not apply to the RHP. That’s a good indication that the letter is generic and sent to everyone who has shown interest.
Wait are there scholarship interviews happening next weekend?
@ExeterKid31 I heard back March 28th.
@amberlee9 You’ll be notified late march
@awesomekid, there are scholarship interviews this coming Tuesday for Trustees and there is another explore session in March. I think Presidentials have 2 different session dates.
Did anyone applying to SCA production get offered a Skype interview?
will we be notified of scholarships before everyone else is notified of admission?
