[] Entering as: Junior
[] GPA: 3.63
[] Units completed: 71
[] Units in progress: 4
[] Pre-reqs completed: All
[] GEs completed: All...I think?
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: High school stuff like hospital volunteer, played drums, etc.
[] Job/Work Experience: Finance intern, marketing intern, I think this helped.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I think the question was something like what was a life changing event that happened to you.
[li] Letters of Recommendation: One but i sent it in VERY late...like the end of june and I got my acceptance letter the next week, so I highly doubt it helped.
[/li]

[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: UCSD, Cal, UCLA, UC Davis
[] Comments: I got into UCSD and UC Davis and I was totally set on going to UCSD (submitted my intent, sent them my transcripts, etc.) but then a certain package in the mail addressed to me changed all of that...
[/ul]

Rejected (after SGR) - Marshall / Bus Admin

Stats:[ul]
[] College transferring from: Indiana University - Bloomington, where he was already accepted into the Kelley School of Business as a sophomore (only 20% of those applying as sophomores are accepted)--note that he did not transfer to IU-B, he attended there as a freshman and sophomore
[] Entering as: Junior
[] GPA: 3.35 or so--but note comments at bottom
[] Units completed: 64 units (all transferable) (actually has 67 units completed if you count the retake of Financial Acct to improve grade from "C" to "A"); this includes summer school class in which he had an “A”, but which USC never saw
[] Units in progress: 18 for Spring (15 units completed, 3 units dropped—but then added 3 from summer school course)
[] Pre-requisites completed: ALL for Marshall, plus both optional Accounting courses
[li] GEs completed: 1,2,5 (4 and 6 have to be done at USC), so only one remaining to do prior was 3[/li][/ul]

Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: President of Management Consulting club, Led 500 individuals in performing beach cleanup efforts in Northern California, Chosen to play lead in "Julius Caesar" in high school despite not even being in a single thespian/theatre class, Commodore of Sailing Team, Dean's List (multiple semesters at IU)
[] Job/Work Experience: Currently doing financial internship at a Silicon Valley tech-firm, has worked every summer for previous four years, even when taking summer school courses for first four weeks last year and 4 weeks this year
[] Essays (subject and responses): Newton's Law of Motion--discussed how 1st day of class at Indiana Univ. went from nightmare to positive experience
[] Letters of Recommendation: One from Public Speaking professor at Indiana Univ.; one from Economics professor at University of Virginia (took summer class)
[/ul]

Other:[ul]
[]Other schools applied to: none, since Emory screwed up and entered wrong email into notification system, so application was rejected for this reason (had to respond to email, but never received it)
[]Comments: GPA is 3.6 if you don't count optional accounting & technology courses already taken and passed at Indiana Univ and Univ of Virginia--which both schools use as their "weed-out" classes (40% of each class fails or drops). Didn't really have choice in whether to take for USC, since IU requires these be completed sophomore year.
P.S. Bad Spring grades this last semester (A, A-, B+, C+, C) really hurt chances at USC--needed to bring average up, not down in this semester.

[] I feel very lucky and happy about all these acceptances. I truly believe that working hard and smart is the way to approach success. There is no short cut as a quick solution or a quick success but success is an accumulation of great amount of small steps that require time, energy and integrity. The result we get is simply a reflection of what we have done.

WOW. It is nice to see an out of state student can get in to USC with lower than a 3.5 GPA. First I applied to anneberg, print journalism but after seeing the 3.6 average transfer GPA , I switched to comparative literature and added environmental studies as a second major. I am actually a film student but I added cinema and television production as a minor. I am receiving my associates in cinema studies from another institution
