OFFICIAL UT AUSTIN APPEAL THREAD/ WAIT-LISTED APPLICANT

My son had appealed his rejection from McCombs, and had asked at the end of his letter if he could be reconsidered for Liberal Arts or UGS if he could not get into McCombs. He had accepted PACE, but was later admitted off the wait list in the first wave and accepted admission into UGS. Under his appeals tab on MyStatus, it has said for nearly a month that his appeal was “in review,” including on this past Saturday when we checked. This morning, the appeals tab was entirely gone from his MyStatus. He just called admissions after school and the person he spoke with told him that when he got into UGS off the wait list, that cancelled his appeal, because he got what he asked for. We were surprised by this because, at the time he got offered admission off the wait list, someone else in admissions told us that his appeal would still be on, because wait list and appeal are two entirely separate things, so we were still harboring hopes (albeit very slim) of getting into McCombs through the appeal route.

I immediately called back and spoke with the same person, as I did not feel the questions had been completely answered. I said that I had understood that a decision on his appeal would be posted under the appeals tab, so I wasn’t sure why it had just disappeared without a statement of the resolution of his appeal. She just kept saying that he got what he asked for. When I asked if there is any possible chance of him getting into McCombs (such as if they ultimately have more students choose to go elsewhere than anticipated), she just kept saying “no one’s getting into McCombs”. I said that while he was grateful to be given the opportunity to be in UGS, we still wanted to know the resolution of his appeal vis-a-vis McCombs, as that will play a large part in his decision, and that we had not realized that his offer off the wait list was a de facto decision on his appeal for McCombs, since we had been told they are two separate processes. It is nice that he got full admission (although he may very well go to Mays instead since he didn’t get into McCombs), but after my conversation with this woman, who I thought was extremely rude and unprofessional from the git-go, I may be all out for the Mays School of Business, although I love Austin!

@texasjayhawk‌ My son initially got accepted into the CAP program and we had appealed based on incorrect transcripts. I see the appeal status changed to “approved” but the overall admissions is still showing “Offer CAP”. I talked to the admissions counselor in the dallas office and they said that, if the appeal was for admissions then he has been given the admission to UT Austin. Do you know it it took a day or so for the status page to reflect the decision?

We do not know what to make out of it.

If nothing has changed, can we appeal again?

Z

@zubear, my son’s MyStatus reflected the changes from PACE to offer to accept admission off wait list, then from wait list to full admission to UGS, right away. No decision was ever reflected for my son’s appeal - the tab just disappeared. Your situation sounds very promising, but I would call them again. It seems like if he were offered admission, they would be giving him just a few days in which to accept by choosing a major, but then again, we never heard about my son’s appeal, so maybe admission from an appeal operates differently than admission from wait list…

My admissions appeal got denied :’(
I noticed that when I clicked on the my Documents tab, all of the things included in my appeal weren’t received until 4 days after they looked at my appeal. I’m going to call them and see if I can do anything about this. That means they only looked at the appeal page and not the documents that support it!!! This war is not over!!! (Hopefully it isn’t). Good luck to everyone.

Does anybody know any info regarding a second appeal? I didn’t ask to be considered for UGS or COLA in my appeal for mccombs and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get denied. Im curious about making a second appeal but worried its too late. This whole experience has been very stressful

Got accepted off the wait list today as well as my major.

Congratulations , getchasome. What is your major ?

When trying to choose my major off the wait list, I’m getting an error code that reads like “>> INVALID ACCEPT/DECLINE SOURCE VALUE”. Anyone have any knowledge pertaining to this?

My S got accepted off the wait list today, too. Interestingly, his second choice major (which obviously wasn’t considered in the admissions decision initially) is available.

@Loganator‌ was she able to successfully choose a major? I seem to be unable to.

My daughter and I are trying desperately to choose major and submit, but we are getting the same error message as frontcause. I called the UT Direct Help Desk and they couldn’t help me. I called the Admissions office and they are closed. The UT Direct Help Desk did tell me that at least one other person had called with the same problem and that they would email me if they resolved it.

@burnsm‌ can you please share the number for the help desk? I would like to call as well

Has anyone reading this been able to successfully select their major tonight?

Just called, they said that the problem was “out of their hands” since the Office of Undergrad Admissions controls that portal and they are closed now. She said that a lot of people have been calling. She recommended I call at 8 AM central right when the admissions office opens to talk to them.

thanks. I called back also. They told me the same thing. If you get it working tonight, please post. I am going to keep trying. And am emailing the admissions office.

Looks like they updated the portal to say that the page will be open on April 9th at 5 pm.

Thanks!

He has decided to go elsewhere, so he will be declining…but the major choices were listed, with his second choice major as the default in the selection box.

Are the same colleges being offered (UGS, Communications, Social Work & Edu, Liberal Arts) for those that have been given the opportunity to clear waitlist? Thank you.
