Intended Major: Business
State (if domestic applicant): OOS legacy
School Type: Public

Reflection

Strengths: gpa, course rigor, EC’s, essays
Weaknesses: Not straight A student (4 B’s during High School with the most rigorous classes available)
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Surely legacy helped, without it my chances would have been 50/50 at best. From my high school, usually only Valedictorians that are non-legacy get accepted.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Considering acceptance to UT Business Honors, deferred at MIT & U Chicago, waiting on others, still too early for rejections but I am sure some are coming

Reflection

Strengths: ACT, SAT, Common App essay, teacher recs, a lot of hours into my extracurriculars/volunteering
Weaknesses: GPA for sure, competitive in-state school, maybe personal essays?
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly thought I had a good shot at getting in, UVA accepts ~40 students each year from my school and I assumed I had the stats for it to be a match, my GPA was a pretty big weakness. I’ve written better personal essays to other schools; after applying to my RD schools I am confident I could write better ones to UVA now that I have the experience.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: UMich (EA, deferred), Dartmouth (ED, rejected)

General Comments: Pretty upset… I had my hopes up, being in-state, where I thought I had a good chance since the acceptance rate inside VA is around 45%. Another deferral since my UMich letter is a kick to the confidence, for sure. I hate the wait. Hopefully this is helpful for any prospective applicants reading this!

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I’m an under-qualified in state applicant? Potentially Tufts syndrome? See General Comments[/li][/list]General Comments: I was accepted SCEA to one of HYPS (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford) so I was quite surprised at my deferral. I don’t regret applying at all and I’m thankful that UVA took the time to look over my application and is willing to consider me for the RD round. Most of all I’m SUPER grateful that my best friends were accepted and have the opportunity to attend one of the nation’s premier public institutions.
