Official UVA Transfer Thread Fall 2010

For the NYU Pre-Business major prospective,

I don’t mean to be discouraging, but I’ll be honest. A 3.174 GPA even though from NYU is not competitive for McIntire School of Commerce. For out of state of applicants, they take a very, very small percentage (probably 7-10 students) and believe me when I say that you will most likely be competing with applicants from top business programs who want to transfer into UVA B-School because of it’s high ranking (it was #1 last year).

I applied last year from a top 50 undergraduate business program with a 3.94 GPA and all solid A’s in my business major courses and was flat out denied. Besides having a flawless GPA, I was involved with three leadership positions and a diverse extracurricular schedule, had two major internships at major Investment Banks.

I got into Wash-U, Emory, and UNC-CH.

UVA is hard especially for business major transfers because they have to maintain a quota even for transfer students when it comes to Virginia residents, they WIN.

Thanks for your reply! I’m actually applying as pre-commerce, if that makes any difference, although I’ve recently considered changing my major. To be honest, UVA wasn’t a top choice for me at all, it seems like it would have a lot of the same problems that I have with NYU (which would ruin the point of transferring).

Are any of you all applying for financial aid? Do you know if the March 1st priority deadline applied to transfer students also? I had my fafsa submitted by then, but the other UVA form they have you fill out I submitted a little later, will that decrease my chances of getting aid or the amount that I get?

Thanks

Anybody willing to give any last minute opinions on chances?

Does anyone know when we will be informed of our decision?
Also, is there like an application status page?
Thanks

kwm22406, you do not have to send midterm grades to UVa.

kwm, you dont have to but when i talked to admissions people, they said they would suggest it if they were good grades. if you have straight A’s then i suggest you send them. C average i wouldn’t send them in. hope this helps!

anybody want to guess my chances? I felt confident, but I am not feeling it so much now that I’ve read through some of other people’s stats…

I’m a freshman at a tiny school in VA with a current gpa of 3.925
I’m an OOS student from nc hoping to transfer for fall
My high school gpa was 3.8 unweighted, 4.8 weighted
I’m very involved with community service and am on the Habitat exec board here
I’m in the honors program at my school now
My dad went to UVA (making me a legacy)
Last year I applied and was wait-listed

And question- since the first year applicants found out about a week early this year, do you think that they’d let us know early too?

Thanks, and good luck!

I think if you got waitlisted last year and you’ve done well for yourself in college (which it seems you have) then you’re gonna get in! good luck, hope to join you in the fall :)

also, i wouldnt get your hopes up about finding out early. first years always find out a bit early but looking at other boards, it seems like for the past few years for transfer if its early its like 1 day early, max

Thanks for the feedback!

I have another issue to ask about for those who get in - does anybody know about housing? Knowing a few people who have transferred to UVA, apparently it’s terrible housing that they give you. Do any of you know anything differently?

Has anyone received their decision yet as a transfer for UVA Fall 2010? I checked my online application status this morning and I had a check mark symbol (view decision), and when I checked it it told me to check again May 1st. I’m in a pickle b/c I have to reply to my other school by the same date.

So yeah, anyone receive their transfer decision yet?

(I’m a junior transfer. Applied for the College of Arts and Sciences.)

Nobody is supposed to find out until May 1st, sorry :frowning:
I wish it were sooner! The more I read around on here, the more intimidated and hopeless I become! Anybody else feel the same way?

I agree UVaWahoo… Every time I read someone else’s stats, I always think “Why didn’t I get involved in that?! That is impressive!” And don’t get me started on the GPA aspect, I beat myself up over that too haha. Did anyone else get their “decision made” box checked off about 2 weeks ago? When they started to read the transfer apps? They made a decision really quickly… :/

I think I read somewhere that the decision made checkbox means nothing. I am pretty sure about it.

yeah i heard housing really sucks too…but i have a boyfriend who goes to UVA and i’m gonna try and work something out off campus preferably near him. I hear theres a lot of good off campus housing, but we’ll have to act pretty fast, if there is any left at all…

yeah, the check mark doesnt mean anything. everyone has to wait until may 1st, 5 pm. eagle, i would make your deposit at the other school just in case you dont get in. its probably worth like a 200$ investment.

i feel really intimidated too!! I think my stats are okay, but there are some people on here who just blow me away. I really really hope that I get in, its an incredible school.

just 25 days left!

23!!!

just a quick question,
did all of you send in your sat score (as a junior transfer)?

i didn’t… btw im international
