@SolarPowered, I submitted my application same time as you did. I just think that staffs in the office cannot process whole applications (amount around 2400) in one day. They would go through the complete applications first; then they will continue to read the applications which are later coming.

That makes sense.

Should I even bother to get my econ teacher to send in a student evaluation to UVA next week?

I got my application completed at mid-Feb (it’s not late right?), but it is still a circle…

@ybing Honestly, I don’t think it means much. No university would give such a huge hint about decisions this early on. The green check just means that your application has been reviewed and a decision has been made, nothing more.

Agree with @SAT100 :)

Visited UVA and loved it! I chose UVA over Vtech because of their research and joint programs with their School of Medicine.

Reading questions over this mysterious green check and green circle, I think we shouldn’t focus on that. We all have different applications and are all dedicated/hardworking students.

“Stay hungry, stay foolish” - Steve Jobs

i just got a green check but then are they really going to see my mid-term report?
hmm… hope the greeon check doesn’t mean the decision has been made already…

@SAT100, I completely disagree with you. I guess you’ve never applied to Cornell as a transfer. Schools DO leave huge hints about acceptances/rejections. For example, at Cornell, being able to log in to Cornell’s housing system has historically been a indicator of coming acceptances (I have a cousin and 3 friends from my current school who transferred into Cornell within the past couple of year; all were able to log in to housing before they got accepted). In fact, it’s so prevalent that even admissions counselors even know about it. If you want to explore the issue yourself, you can look through Cornell’s official transfer threads to as far back as a few years ago. Most if not ALL of those who were able to log in to housing ended up being accepted. It’s actually kind of amazing just how much of a correlation there is.

Likewise, UVA like Cornell has an indicator for acceptance. Generally, this is the financial aid to do’s (after a green check has already been assessed on your application).

While I admit that the small sampling size and response bias may play a part in the skewed numbers (rejected students usually don’t provide further information and stop commenting in the thread), there’s just too much of a correlation between these hints and acceptances that it’s very hard to overlook.

Now do I think schools leave these huge hints on purpose? No way. In my opinion, it’s completely unintentional. I personally believe it’s because schools usually buy software from third party vendors that make these online portal systems (I know this for a fact since some of the schools that I applied to as transfer this year use the same portal system template). I personally believe it’s because of the flaws in the software system that students usually can find the loopholes.

Can everyone see an “@Virginia.EDU” e-mail address for themselves in UVaCollab? I imagine the answer is yes, but I’m checking to find if it’s another possible indicator of acceptance status.

Yes solarpowered my son has a green ck and a UVA email address on collab. Hope this is good news for us both!!

u guys have your own virginia edu address?
i dont see anything lol

I do believe seeing financial aid is a good sign, but I don’t think an early green check is any particular sign besides that they have made their decision.

Doesnt everyone recieve the “@virginia.edu” email if they applied?

SolarPowered: Yeah I got them both at the same time. All my to-do’s are not due until June 1st.

I have the email, but not the green check.

i have a green check but not email
what does it look like?
maybe i dont see because im checking it with my phone?

Hey, So I haven’t replied in awhile. So I called late march a week after having completed financial aid and I sent in all forms signed and all and the woman told me that I have completed my full financial aid on time. Then less than two weeks ago I was added two new to-dos which ask more about my mom’s earnings for this year, and about my wife. On top of that, I have a UVAcollab and a UVA email. Both I am able to access. I received my green check at the same time as the new to-do’s.

I would say to anyone suggesting that there are tells for acceptance: I would say there are. However I do not believe that timing of green circle to green check is one of them. It is overly abundant on the comments section of the UVA transfer blog between the posts prior to admissions and to posts regarding acceptance or rejection that there were a variety of different experiences for those who received the check late and who received acceptance. One particular case to pay attention to is the comments under “We Are Alive:)” under April 2012 [Blogger: Transferring to UVA - Post a Comment](Blogger: Transferring to UVA - Post a Comment)

To “Offered Admission for Fall 2012?” under April 2012 [Transferring to UVA: Offered Admission for fall 2012?](Transferring to UVA: Offered Admission for fall 2012?)

What you’ll see is the same posts we are making with the same confusions. In particularly, I would pay special attention to Hungrygames posts before and after admissions results as well as WahooWa’s comments before and after. One received more to-dos late in the game and a circle-check change late while the other received his or hers early. It would be fallacious to deem all reasoning on two previous applicants stories posted on the internet but it would not be poor thought to take their claimed anecdotal experiences and use them to make your own judgments.

Oh and to play devil’s advocate on myself: there is also a thing called FERPA making it illegal to indicate preference for one student over another. https://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html

@ilovekoreanfood
I am an international student and did not apply for financial aid(means no financial to-dos), so what can be my indicator of acceptance/rejection?
