My best recommendation for everyone is to check your MyUW portal for the most up to the date information. Most likely the application status on MyUW will change before you receive your packet. With that said, if you do not hear from us this week, that does NOT insinuate any admissions decisions (accepted, denied, or waitlisted). If you call the office the Admissions Representatives will kindly ask you to wait until the end of the notification window. Before we are asked again, we anticipate to start rolling out decisions this week. I understand and empathize with some of your worries and anxieties, so thank you for your patience and understanding.
Hey guys, can anyone explain how UW admission works? Are we admitted to the college first and then the major? What happens if we are admitted to the college and not major? What are pre-majors?
@UWadmissionstaff You have the patience of a saint. The last week on this thread has been a case study on how no good deed goes unpunished.
Also, in the future before anybody asks any questions please scroll through previous pages to see if it’s already been asked. Please stop asking redundant questions. Thanks.
@palaksh You can be directly admitted to your major, but it’s extremely competitive. Usually you’d be admitted to pre-major (general studies basically) and declare your major in fresh/soph year
The best way to find out about the majors you are interested in is to review the UW and department websites. They will explain the admission process for the handful of majors that have a freshman direct admission pathway (last time I checked, business administration, music and other audition based majors, biochemistry and computer science) or a direct to college admission pathway (engineering majors) and for all of the other majors that have a regular admission pathway (around 180 majors in all).
“This is a list of UW-Seattle undergraduate majors. Options and concentrations are listed when available. Each major links to the General Catalog, where you can learn more about its admission and graduation requirements.”
Here is some general guidance regarding majors:

@fizzymangoes thanks for your reply. Is it easy to declare your major in the fresh/sop if you get in with a pre-major?
For anyone new planning on commenting on this thread: Please check the most recent few pages before you ask @UWadmissionstaff another question—they have been getting the exact same ones and have already answered some (when will acceptances come out? is the most common.) Althouhh they can’t show it I’m sure they’re extremely annoyed. Literally just scroll a few pages back and you will most likely find the answer to the question you were about to ask.
@Palaksh, it depends on the major. See the links in post #647. Click the link to your major and then “Undergraduate Program,” and it will tell you about the admission requirements.
@Palaksh many majors are capacity constrained (engineering, business, architecture, CS) and it’s a meme at UW
Do you guys think there’s anyway we could hear anything today?
@Tristin738 it’s possible, but seems unlikely. The admissions officer said that most people will likely receive their decisions by the end of this week. Thursday and Friday are probably the days you are most likely to hear.
@Tristin738 possibly! They said by the end of the week and I believe Wednesday counts as a day by the end of the week. I am assuming they will not send decisions over the weekend because I do not believe they work over the weekend. Hopefully today, or tomorrow, or friday!
@edawg99 lol whoops I literally said the exact same thing. Did not see your comment
Question everyone, does the transcript trick work? Please tell me it’s fake…
@WolfBlood what is the transcript trick?
The theory is that when you log in to the old myUW to access your unofficial transcript, and it shows up, then you have probably been admitted.
Whenever I check this using the link, I get a message saying that I do not have access, it is only available for students registered after 1983 or something. I know someone who has access to the transcript.
I need someone to confirm what the transcript thing is based off.
@WolfBlood
I’m pretty sure it was working last year, but probably they figure that out this year so that’s why it does not work now
@WolfBlood I wouldn’t go off of anything besides MyUW or the letter/email you receive, just to be safe!
@WolfBlood
What is the old my UW?
@WolfBlood If its not showing it could mean that UW has no released any decisions yet, if you applied to the other campus and got accepted, you will see your id number and the major you got accepted into.
