Ik essay is really important but do you guys that are accepted to this university have any tips on how to get accepted? Im in state, and will be applying as a freshman this October. Can I get DA to Computer Science Department? Do you guys think I have a chance?
Did you run the net price calculator to see if the college is affordable? In your other thread, it seems like costs may be an issue. There are several posters on that thread who seem very familiar with WA schools. If you respond to them, you may get some valuable information.
I’m from Washington - I am not sure of your financial aid situation, but UW seems to be pretty generous with FA. I think it will work out for you.
In terms of getting accepted, it may be a little bit of a reach but I would say that you have a pretty good shot of getting in overall.
DA to computer science is tough. If you don’t get it, are you willing to go and take your chances competing for the major once you’re there? Make sure you have some safety schools, too.
Your senior year grades will not be in by the time the applications are due on December 1st. So, your test scores and your summer and early fall activities are the best ways to improve on your application.
@AroundHere Yes I am. If i get admitted im strongly commited to getting into that department. If i don’t get DA to CS, will i be taking random classes that are not part of the department? Or still taking classes that will count towards a CS degree? Im really confused with getting accepted to UWS as a whole, and getting accepted to a specific department :\
@Jack-et My parents gross income is 23k a year, so i am hoping to get as much washington grants like pell and state need. Because i dont think i will win any scholarships. Do you recommend me doing the WSOS even though only 1450 residents gets it?
You won’t be taking random classes if you are not DA. You will be taking the classes you need to apply to the CS major. You can figure that out after you’re admitted, though. There should be a pre-major advisor for CS to advise you on what you need to get into the major.
For financial aid and scholarships, look at Husky Promise at UW. Also the Washboard.org website for any Washington school.
