lowkey I’d hate to not find out until March 17 due to mail or portal not updating or delay. I normally would be fine but i just found out today that I need to turn in stuff for WSU by the 15th for financial aid and things…yikes. (also pls don’t leave me rude biased comments about WSU tho I’d love to here some thoughts).
Why does WSU look so bad against UW or just in general? I’m OOS and one of my friends got accepted to WSU two years ago so she’s still there. She says its great as well as what a few others have said. From my research, I feel like UW has more to offer and is obviously more rigorous which is why I really want to go tbh. Not to mention the school is beautiful, the alma mater, etc. everything is great at UW but i feel like WSU is not so bad but earlier in this thread someone said how WSU “is still accepting spillovers from UW” or i’ve read it being “the party school”?
@aweinst tru
@clvmsy my fellow Michigan friend too, glad you’re here lol
^I got accepted to WSU on the first, I’m literally just waiting for UW at this point. I really want to be a husky but a coug is the next on my list in comparison to my other colleges of choice.
@sandiego21 Honestly, I think I’m obsessed with College Confidential
Still a husky if you go to Bothell tho
@clvmsy attached at the hip by this point
@sandiego21 in it for the long run
@clvmsy @sandiego21 me too, i check it at least once an hour …
@babyfangs The UW vs. WSU is just a running gag in this state. Visit uwrejects.com. There’s also a well-told proverb: What do UW and WSU students have in common? They both applied to UW.
Of course, they’re both places of higher education, so I wouldn’t go out of my way to bash one or the other. Most know that WSU is much more lenient with admissions, though.
@PaulGFoster what is it on? insta?
@Coul76 Welcome fellow anxious and stressed out friend
@alwaysstressed3 oh okay thanks! (:
At this point I’m starting to feel indifferent about it. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m still super excited if I were to get accepted, in fact I’d visit it, but if i didn’t get in I guess I could go somewhere else. I read this post about someone that highlighted their experience, but it wasn’t a happy post. (if you’re curious here’s the link-http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-washington/1851540-uw-pros-cons.html). I get the notification window issue, but like it’s not even that anymore. I’m just tired of being anxious constantly, and feeling the need to check my portal or email like throughout the whole day. If I continue like this idk how I’ll be able to handle my other college decisions lol
I’m a first year OOS student btw
WSU is a great university with many excellent departments and programs.
The UW has been considered one of the top public universities for decades. See, for example:
http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~jnewton/nrc_rankings/nrc1.html#TOP60
http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~jnewton/nrc_rankings/nrc1.html#PUBLIC
So much of success depends on the individual student and not the school. A serious undergraduate student can receive an outstanding education and preparation for graduate school/career/life from either school or any of the other fine public universities in Washington.
For undergraduates, UW has two primary advantages over WSU–substantially higher academic standing as well as a less provincial location. As someone who hires engineering/CS/math grads from both schools (numerous others like Western or SeattleU as well), I’ve not really noticed a difference in work force readiness between programs. That said, I’d suggest UW isn’t nearly as friendly a place for undergraduates as someplace like Western is. In particular, it’s got a sink or swim culture and the competitive major system strongly incentivizes grade-grubbing. OTOH, Western and/or WSU have undergraduate friendly reputations and you’re likely to get the major you want with the downside that they’re unknown outside the region Finally, I’ve had people who do this for a living tell me that WSU’s honors college is the best undergraduate value in the state–in-state costs, small college feel, and a strong set of academic peers.
Top students may also enjoy the UW’s Interdisciplinary Honors Program:
So just to clarify, is there any chance UW does come out tomorrow?
Solid chance. The rep said before end of week many will be out, and they don’t work weekends.
@babyfangs Because WSU is literally in the middle of nowhere. It’s also a party school so unless you’re an athlete or an above average looking female you’ll probably be miserable.
I have a mutual friend that went to WSU before transferring to UW. And his professor made a joke about how WSU students are pretty much UW rejects. The class got very salty lmao.
