***Official UW Class of 2022 Decision Thread***

Hope decisions come out tomorrow

I’m so hecking nervous oh my goodness, it comes in waves though. I’ll be fine for most the day, and then woooosh, I’m overcome with anxiety again :<

I’m so scared, I just want to know already. I hope they update the portal before I get the mail because I am in the middle of a massive cleanup after a huge snow storm and I don’t know if they are delivering the mail!

Nothing from UW in my USPS informed delivery email today except our mortgage statement…sure would have been nice to know before spring break so we could have planned a trip to Washington to check things out! Perhaps that is something that all schools (not just UW) should consider when releasing decisions, most HS schools have spring break sometime in March and it certainly makes it easier to schedule a visit when students have time off from school rather than having to take a school day off to travel. My current bet for decisions to be released on the portal is next Friday, March 16. Thank goodness my DD is controlling her anxiety and only checking 1x per day (or so she says!) But then again she has me stalking this thred waiting for someone to post a legitimate decision. It’s her last decision and her first choice.

Per admissions yesterday definitely not today but would hope it would be before the 16th.

Why not today? According to the Twitter page, the decisions are about to start rolling. And also @UWadmissionstaff told that it would begin in the week of march 5th. If not today, it would not come this week at all as it is a weekend. Today is the day I think.

Some perspective here…I am the father of a prospective student and also an alumni. I would really, really like my son to pick UW due to the strength of the program he’s interested in. Every other school has accepted him months ago. The strategy of taking forever, relatively speaking to make their decisions is causing him to not feel “wanted” and lose interest. Every other school he’s been accepted to sends him emails and postal mail weekly.

A lot of this marketing from the other schools is very clever and well-done.

His impression is that UW really doesn’t know what they’re doing ( right or wrong ). I explain to him that they can basically pick who they want so they’re in the driver’s seat but in today’s generation - gratification is often instant and UW’s policy on admissions does not work in their favor. They might lose a good student and part of their community due to their processes and lack of communication and the way they go about this.

@Palaksh What is the twitter page?

@EthansDad I think you and your son speak for all of us when you say that it’s really hard to feel wanted when there is virtually no communication or invitation/excitement to have students join the community. Very very well written. Thank you.

@Palaksh which twitter page did you see that on and when?

Literally just look at the #newhuskies2018 and you’ll see a bunch of posts saying they are out or “on their way” but people were posting that days ago so who even knows @toomuchanxiety @pleaseUW7777

@labegg , I think UW is aware of the spring break schedule of Washington state high schools, which is in middle of April. They may not know or care about other state’s schedules, since there are so few OOS students and spread out over many states anyway.

Our schools district also have next Friday and next next Monday off, so a 4 day weekend coming up. Don’t know what’s the occasion, but it fits perfectly with UW’s release schedule (3/15 release and schools off 3/16-3/19 for visits.)

Totally agree @EthansDad , my S was anxiously waiting on UW admissions since March 1 and now after all the delays (even though its not officially), his interest and excitement levels have dropped significantly. Every college that had a ‘by date’ or ‘range of dates’ has beat expectations and sent results early. This certainly feels like a flight delay at airport where every hour they tell you its going to be another hour of wait and continues several hours.

Again, to UW’s defense they have not violated anything here and still targeting within the range. But for a school that’s so strong in the CS dept, you would think they can speed up at least the release of information on the portals, not depend on snail mails in these days and not be constrained by system limitations!

Also, nothing in USPS informed delivery for us … last hope is they send mail today afternoon and it show up tomorrow morning?

@UWadmissionstaff Any news on admissions?

I know this is frustrating for all of you but get a grip! I’m a parent of an applicant. They are NOT late and for those of you who’ve heard from all your other schools already, feel lucky about that! We’ve heard from one early action school back in December and all of the rest will be the last week of March! Those are all elite schools, the notification dates have always been the same, give or take a day or two. College admissions has ALWAYS been before April 1 with the students choice coming by May 1. It was this way 1/4 century ago when I did it! Again, feel lucky if you have several schools you’ve already heard from! College admissions are not going to adjust their schedules to fit your spring break! My daughter will hear from all of her top schools during break. April has always been the month to make school visits to the places where you’re accepted. Patience must not be a virtue too many of you have. Studies have shown that the most successful people have mastered the concept of delayed gratification… try to work on that a little bit!

@UWadmissionstaff did confirm here that most decisions are expected to be out today. But looking at the situation right now, I’m not too sure…let’s hope our portals are updated. Oh and it was also stated that we would first find out through our portals, and Mail follows later.

my favorite post on this thread

is the one posted by maybeDmom, calling out all the whiners

@maybeDmom I think that’s a little irrational. We’ve been patient. No one’s ungrateful for the schools they have already been accepted to; In fact, people must be VERY grateful they have other options since there hasn’t been much from UW. No one is looking for a specific date from UW and no one is specifically looking to hear during spring break. I think people are disappointed at this point because, compared to other schools (or elite schools, as you wanted to throw out) the lack of communication has been disheartening. It’s got nothing to do with a lack of patience as we’ve all been patient for at least four months now, and it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact a lot of people would do anything to be a Husky and feel less than cared for within a system that takes a lot out of you as a 17/18 year old teenager. I hope you see that.
