@sbark71 , stats are little low, but your OOS full pay status may help you get in.
UW Fall 2017 class profile:
Academic achievement, middle 50%
High School GPA 3.70-3.95 (out of 4.0)
Test Scores
SAT Composite 1180-1370 (out of 1600)
SAT Math 600–720
SAT Evidence-Based Reading + Writing 590-680
ACT Composite 27-32
5 to 10 years ago maybe, but OOS full pay status probably doesn’t help much at this point. The number of nonresident applications has risen quite a bit recently and the admit percentage has dropped. Phillip Ballinger of UW admissions has said that admissions standards for out-of-state applicants are typically higher than for residents.
Are others still waiting for portal email? Still nothing on my end.
does anyone know if the psychology program a competitive major?
For anyone that is worried about their chances, just take a look at mine from last year. I was accepted and I’m currently a freshman here at UW.
I was accepted in the first wave–my unofficial transcript updated with my student number on the first day decisions were sent out last year. I got direct to CM.
Here are my stats
SAT: 1150
GPA: 3.90, top 5% of class
In state
Great EC’s
Spent a month working on my essays and making sure that they were just what I wanted.
Had no AP credits–school didn’t offer any.
If you have any questions let me know! Don’t get discouraged if you have low scores. They are a factor, but not as much as your essays.
@Bellaluna299 and anyone else wondering if your major is competitive, there is a chart here (the circles key is at the top of the page, and you can click on the major for more details)
Has everyone received the portal email? Wondering if there’s an issue with mine because I took a UW calls so I had one in the past that expired.
@ohsstdnt32 but you applied with good EC’s, a good GPA, and top 5% of class. Not to mention in state. SO difficult to be accepted OOS with those stats… we’ll see I guess hoping for the best
@bogeyorpar If this is true then why is there an entire writing portion dedicated to asking “how will you add to UW’s diversity”?
Your post might’ve been relevant 20 years ago when white families in king county broke their limbs to make sure universities (mainly UW) don’t partake in affirmative action, but now UW is doing damage control to compensate for their numerous racial incidents and backlash for not having enough underrepresented minorities.
Oh, and your statement about OOS is also outdated. Currently, the office of admissions is far more likely to accept an in-state student.
In case anyone else runs into this issue…
I had a UW NetID due to taking courses while in HS so I never received the portal signup email. Sorta logical since I already had an ID but UW doesn’t send any notification about application at all in this case. Had to go through a bunch of steps to recover ID, etc.
@qnaiin, you are right. Washington State passed I-200 in 1998, exactly 20 years ago, that restricted public universities from discrimination based on race, gender, etc. It has worked well. However, as Seattle turns further and further left, they started demanding Affirmative Action. This year, several state Senators introduced SB 6406 to overturn I-200.
IMHO, college admission should be based on merit only, so the spirit of I-200 should be preserved. Anyone who agrees with me please call or email your state senator to vote NO on SB 6406.
(Should probably start another post. This is too important to be buried in the 2022 admission thread.)

Yes start another post or moderator should move it. Thx!
Did anyone get an email from the office of student financial aid at uw about how you’re not getting need-based aid based on your FAFSA, but you are considered for non-need based aid? I’m in-state and this was expected but no one else got this email o_o
@bogeyorpar I respectfully disagree with you (at least partially), while merit is the most important indication of college readiness it should not be the only factor. I have reasons as to why I believe I-200 is very dismissive, some are very touchy and controversial (including this [study](http://educationnext.org/the-race-connection/)). However, I do believe that not all majors are equal, for example, someone seeking to major in medicine and someone else seeking to major in liberal arts should not follow the same criteria whilst determine qualifications.
However this topic does deserve its own thread and posts should be moved, thus I will refrain from further derailing this thread. I’ve already had to delete 80% of my post because It was getting too long.
@ChubbyPanda when did you get this email from the financial aid office? And was this the first email you got from them? We only received one back in November when we submitted the FAFSA?
