***Official UW Class of 2022 Decision Thread***

@babyj62 I think it just means that the portal will tell you if you were accepted or denied. You’ll be notified by email for denial either way. You just can’t find out if you were waitlisted by way of the portal.

BTW: a family member is the registar at USC. In a recent forum of registars from top school on the value of choosing the right school for undergraduate studies, the key learnings is that it really doesn’t matter where you go for an undergraduate degree. The differerence boils down to two things: Graduate school and your first job. The caveat is the STEM programs. My dad is VP of a fortune 500 company and has stated that when he hires PhDs, he never looks at their undergraduate educational track. It is what they have done post graduate that makes a difference. A recent column in the Detroit news stated by the chancelor of a prominent University brings all this home; “This isn’t supposed to be a place where you come to live. It’s a place where you come to get your bachelor’s degree and get on with the next chapter of your life.”

@babyj62 Waitlist and denied applicants will be notified via email. Admitted and denied status will show on MyUW, where waitlist status will not appear on MyUW.

@Darkdampdays Thanks for that info. Good to keep in mind for a potential cross-country enrollment. Had not heard of the Seattle Freeze before.

hi @UWadmissionstaff , does it mean that today all the denied applicants will receive email ?

Are international admissions sent the same time regular admissions are sent?

@sengacheng No, it just means that when denied applicants are informed, it will be by email. They said nothing about today.

@babyfangs they transferred after one year at WSU

thanks @GeometryBoy for the info.
Overall, again i am not complaining, but it is a little bit confusing.
Because we are OOS and the mail do take times to arrive.
So if someone did not receive anything at the end March, what that means.
Most of the school will do is:

  1. when applied , send out info to confirm you have applied
  2. when decision come, everyone receive an email the final decision. ( admitted, denied or waitlisted )
  3. the application web will show the status ( admitted, denied or waitlisted )
  4. if admitted, we will receive another mailed letter to confirm.
  5. if waitlisted, we need to confirm to stay on the waiting list until certain time.

Thanks everyone about the info in this forum.
It helps.

I understand the anxiousness to receive admission decisions but from day one the University of Washington admissions staff has been transparent about the release window. Based on years of experience with this process, they chose to have a window, March 1-March 15, which on a lighter year would allow them to release earlier with in this frame, but they are not required to do so, nor are they always able to. I get that some feel that a specific day would be nice, but this is the system, that the qualified staff have chosen, and we should be respectful of that, as the constant stream of frustration and negativity is the last thing we need during this stressful time! We are all going to be okay, whether we are accepted or denied!

Thank you to the admissions staffer communicating through this thread, Go Dawgs!

@ktrose Totally agree that they gave us a specific time and now we should be patiently waiting during that time. However, I feel as though the 2 week time period is less for us, and more for them. It gives them a range of dates to release their decisions in waves, yet it seems as though they’re not using that time frame to their advantage. By only having 5 days left (with no decisions yet might I add and a curious “2 days left”) they’re cutting in on their own time. Which is the reason we’re wondering why they give a two week period in the first place. Wouldn’t it make more sense to give a later, more specific date but be able to be done and release before then (post #1177 for context) rather than giving us 14 days but barely starting to roll decisions out until the end?

This so called Admissions person is merely guessing and most likely is just another student playing games.

@Huskybound They’re vetted. Instead of “registered user” or other titles I’m pretty sure it says Admissions Rep

The self-named admissions person on this site seems to either be guessing or is so low on the totem pole they don’t share important details with them. He teased again about two days left but is there a University anywhere that releases results on the weekend?? Makes no sense.

Actually, yes. BU is planning on releasing on Saturday the 17. Odd to release on a weekend, but not unheard of.

Even with 60k applicants, BU is still sending me emails and I haven’t even applied. I live right outside Boston, so that may be it, but got an email like 5 minutes ago with the opening statement as “We are thrilled you are interested in Boston University. We look forward to sharing more about the exciting opportunities available to you”. Pretty impressive I must say…

That’s interesting as I’m waiting on them as well but wasn’t even planning to start getting anxious until end of March. Thanks!!

Historically speaking , UW has given a decision window. It is traditionally March 15- 31. This year, applications closed 2 weeks earlier than in the past (Nov 15 vs Dec 1). Which likely explains why the decision window moved up by two weeks to March 1- 15th. Historically, UW released their decisions very early in the “window”. Last year, in fact, decisions trickled out beginning on March 15; the first day of the “window”. Hence the belief, although unfounded, that decisions would/could/should begin to be released on the first day of the window, March 1. It is a logical assumption given the historical data.

on myUW it says that on march 10th there will be system matience and it won’t be avalible from 6 am - 10 am. possibly is that when they’ll be posting decisions?

I hope so! It’s definitely promising!
