***Official Vanderbilt 2016 RD Admissions***

jbstewsaff, I think you’ve mistaken the meaning of “presume” … more likely, you were ASSUMING that Vandy was exercising yield protection and that your son’s waitlist status had nothing to do with his stats/ECs/application. Agree with Kelsmom: immature post. Bitterness is unattractive in a parent.

@Calexico: Lucky and congrats on your acceptance into UChicago. I know this is totally biased, but you should consider your college options wisely. I was wait-listed and that decision just about destroyed me that night. I would have given anything to attend UChicago; it is such a WONDERFUL school, attracting amazing and inspiring students. Let’s just say I visited this summer and absolutely fell in love.

With that said, CONGRATS to everyone else accepted to Vandy! I was offered very generous financial aid, so I am beginning to seriously consider this school. I was on their blog a few minutes ago–I can’t believe that Vandy’s percentage of acceptance is 12%!!! That’s just crazy! It’s only 3% above Chicago and 4-5% above the Ivies. Wow. I now realize how extremely fortunate and blessed I am to be accepted.

Stats:
SAT: 2270 (didn’t send)

I called the admissions office today and was told letters went out last Thursday and should be received by this Thursday.

jbstewsaff: yo, for parent, damn you are immature!

Bro, there are many applicants who are better than your son. plus vandy had it tough - 12% acceptance rate. That means a lot of qualified applicant - had to reject or waitlist them.

Another kid from my high school already got his acceptance but nothing was in the mail for me. Does that mean I’m in the rejection wave? Or is it alphabetical or something…I though they were all sent at the time time.

Ugh. Please disregard everything that jbstewsaff wrote. I personally think that no parents should be on CC (come on guys, surely you must have something better to do), but that was especially terrible.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

I apologize for responding…I am a PARENT! The year my son was accepted ED, we were waiting by the mailbox, as are many of you. A boy down the street heard from Vanderbilt a day before he did. It was nerve-wracking. The reason I am posting is to tell you that they were both accepted, so you can rest assured that they don’t send the responses out in any order. I believe this is all a function of the post office. I can’t imagine sorting through all that mail - there’s no way everyone can hear at the same time. I truly believe Vanderbilt should go to online notifications (like most other schools).

Decision: Waitlisted

Objective:

IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: Economics H, AP French Language, AP English Literature, AP European History, Wind Ensemble, AP Statistics, Astronomy

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity swimming (captain), chamber orchestra, marching band, varsity softball, French Honor Society (Vice President), National Honor Society, TRI-M Music Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, student council (prom chair), mock trial

Job/Work Experience: lifeguard at local country club; full-time swim counselor at childhood summer camp during summer, teaching swim lessons to kids ages 6-16

Volunteer/Community service: Give blood regularly every 56 days; clarinet tutor/teacher at local middle school; math and french tutor through respective honor societies

Essays: My Common App essay was really unique, and one school (on par with Vandy academically) noted how much they enjoyed my essay in my acceptance packet.
Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t read either of them, but I’m assuming they were good as one was from my English teacher and the other, my AP US teacher, who both know me very well.
Counselor Rec: Again, didn’t read it; she knows me fairly well but isn’t the best writer so who knows.
Additional Rec: N/A
Interview: Although relatively short (she had another appointment and could only meet for about 20 minutes), I thought it went well. She majored in the same field I was interested in which kept the conversation going.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: No
Intended Major: Political science
State (if domestic applicant): CT
Country (if international applicant): N/A
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: F
Income Bracket: high
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): None!

Reflection

Strengths: Variety of extracurriculars and leadership, essay
Weaknesses: Test scores
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: After seeing the SAT mid-range I was surprised to not be flat-out rejected! I think those definitely factored in. Also, I have two Bs on my transcript from only honors courses, which could have affected me negatively.
General Comments: I didn’t expect to get in after I read the initial stats, so wait list is fine with me! I think Vandy is gaining a lot more popularity; taking 12% of applicants puts it on par with some Ivy league schools as far as selectivity.

I’m from CT and still have not heard…I thought maybe today but nothing.
I’ve already gotten in to my number one and I don’t think I’ll attend Vandy, but this waiting is still killing me!

Two days in and still no mail for me. I have the Relay for Live event I’m chairing on Friday so this is just added, un-needed stress.

My neighbor got his yesterday, as did a bunch of other people in my postal code.

This is killing me.

SAME! I hate the wait …

@dantheman17397 me too

Us too in NY

Still waiting in SoCal - some rejections have arrived, but I don’t know anyone who’s received an acceptance. But if the acceptances went 2-Day Priority Mail USPS my guess is my thin snail-mail envelope has simply been delayed. But hope springs eternal…

still waiting in northeast Ohio as well…a classmate of my daughter received a rejection Monday, but nothing yet for my daughter.

Anyone from WA got anything?

Still waiting in Oklahoma… jeez. Tennessee is only 2 states away…

DD received acceptance yesterday in Nor Cal. I think it’s just our “trusty” ole USPS that’s causing all the angst. Keep the faith… :)

@achievingdream I’m from WA and I got my letter yesterday.
