Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

You are right about not wanting to bash your own school. Just make sure to explain why your current school does not suit YOU personally rather than saying bad things about the school as a whole.
As for where to begin, that depends on what you talk about in your essay. Just make sure that it flows well from one paragraph to the next.
Also, maintain focus. 250-500 words is not all that long, so do not use too many “filler” sentences.

Obviously none of us are transfer essay experts, and I know this is kind of generic advice, but I hope it at least helps a little.

Hey guys!
I am applying to transfer into Vanderbilt from a small, private, liberal-arts college. My sister’s boyfriend went there, and recommended it to me as a school that would be more challenging and provide good financial aid.
Sooo, here are the stats:
4.059 weighted HS pga
3.85 college gpa
32 ACT
National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar
Honor Roll, Dean’s List
5 AP classes, and I got 5’s on all the AP tests
work experience since summer of freshman year of hs
Heavy involvement in the music and fine arts programs at my high school
Member of multiple choirs at my college, which is known for its terrific music program

I’m almost done with my essay, and plan on submitting it tomorrow!

Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully Vanderbilt will be one of the many surprises for us this year!

I hope so! Hopefully it’s a good surprise!

The sad thing is, the worst is yet to come. I can’t even imagine my anxiety levels after my application is complete/reviewed and everyone else has gotten a decision and I haven’t. But for now, I’m just focusing on making my application the best it can be.

Oh I’m not ready for those levels yet. It’s high enough already.

What is everyone planning to major in?

If I get into Vanderbilt, then I plan to major in Human and Organizational Development (HOD) through Peabody College. That kind of major isn’t offered here at UGA, and it seems to be very promising. Fingers still crossed!

I really have no idea but it’s between Psych and Education.

I am also unsure. I am leaning toward History or Mathematics.

Undecided myself but it’s one of:
Medicine, Health, & Society
Econ
Public Policy

Too bad Vandy doesn’t have a major in “Husband Finding”.

I kid, I kid.

Hahahaha ^, agreed ;)

Just kidding. Although that does seem to be a trend…“ring by spring”, “Mrs. Degree”, etc.

It does but hey, at least they got a great education out of it.

BTW, I think I’m done with my essay!

economics here.

Who all have you told that you are transferring?

Parents, friends, significant other, teachers?

My wife has been with me every step of the way, some co-workers/friends know, a few teachers know, and I recently got around to telling my folks and my wife’s folks. The parents aren’t really into us going further away from home…especially since we have a kid and all.
Yes, yes…I am 19 y/o, male, sophomore, have a wife and daughter, and going to UGA…and looking to transfer…I know it’s a bit eccentric, but I want the best for us!

A few friends, a prof, some family members know that I would like to transfer there.

how is everyone dealing w/the additional info option at the end of the common app? another brief essay? a resume? ignoring it?

poli sci for me
