Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

I feel they are dropping every year. More applicants but limited spots~

Yeah, for the class of 2017 there were about 3,000-4,000 more applicants than last year, so unfortunately there will probably be more transfer applicants too. The admission rate for regular decision was 10%, which is also really intimidating.

I posted this back in February, here’s the link to the article:

[So You?re a Transfer Student | The Vandy Admissions Blog | Vanderbilt University](So You’re a Transfer Student | The Vandy Admissions Blog | Vanderbilt University)

(I figured this would be relevant since the user and admissions counselor are referring to the 2013-2014 school year)

I’m a parent of a prospective Vanderbilt transfer applicant. I just read somewhere online that Vanderbilt was eliminating 600 dorm rooms and that this would significantly impact the transfer acceptance rate. Is there truth to this rumor please?

Thanks for your question. We actually intend to enroll approximately 210 new transfer students this fall, which is slightly more than in the past two years.

Also, how does this thread have 23,000+ views… A bit creepy.

So, about two weeks before decisions start rolling in? I still haven’t received my complete application email yet either…

^ I haven’t received mine either. At this point, I feel like it doesn’t matter. I’m feeling really discouraged by those admissions stats m678x79xx posted. I know those are for freshmen but clearly Vandy is getting more competitive each year and unfortunately I can’t help but think that will apply to transfer applicants as well.

I feel the same! Vandy is getting more competitive. Maybe a few years later, transferring wont be a second chance getting into prestigious school any more.

BTW, does anyone know when we can get our admission decision? around mid-April?

Transfers at Vanderbilt are admitted on a rolling basis, meaning that some applicants will find out earlier while others will not find out until later. The first batch of decisions will be mailed around mid-April, so the earliest you will be notified is around April 19th or 20th.

So, HOW to pass the time while we wait?

I’m sure there will be more transfer applicants this year, but it shouldn’t be anywhere near as competitive as class of 2017. I also have hope that they might up their rate this year because of the link anontransfer posted. Either way, based on the common data sets in the last 4 years the rate should be around 22-23% this year taking into account more applicants, if not higher because of the dorm demolition and accepting 210 more transfers.

lelouchFTW, I’m not sure if that comment meant they would enroll 210 additional transfers, but rather they intend to accept more transfers with the intention of having 210 spaces for enrollment. If that makes sense? I can’t find the exact numbers from last year or the year before, but if I remember correctly I thought the number of students enrolled was in the 170ish range?

At this point, I’m just hoping to get waitlisted.

https://virg.vanderbilt.edu/virgweb/vucds.aspx

This has all acceptance stats from past 4 years

So for male transfer students applying, the acceptance rate has fallen over the past three years from 40% -32% - 24%, according to the Common Data Set at Vandy. sigh.

Thanks for that link!

So, for Fall 2010 there were 927 applicants. Fall 2011 there were 1,181 applicants. For Fall 2012, there were 1,385 applicants.

Given that the general growth trend is increasing, I wonder how many applicants there will be this year. 1,500-1,600?

All depressing news if you ask me…ugh

Hey guys I’m also applying to Vanderbilt as a transfer from UT-Austin. So according to that link, we should probably expect about 20 percent males admitted for this year. That’s actually not that bad, considering most schools only admit about 20 percent total of applicants. By the way, my basic stats are as follows:

High School GPA: 3.76/4.6 U/W
College GPA: 4.0 (22 credits after 1 semester)
ACT: 33
SAT: N/A
REC: fairly good I believe?
EC: Not stellar but acceptable

Well, I have returned after 3 months of forgetting this site to rain more depressing and sober opinions on everyone. I used to post in this exact thread often because I transferred into Vanderbilt last fall.

All I will say is being a racial minority helps a lot. And yes, being Chinese/Indian/Asian is a minority here. As you would expect, white applicants are in high supply and little demand.

Gee thanks, sometransfer! On the informative side, though, tell us about your assimiliation into the Vandy campus. Where did you live, how has it been?

FINALLY! I got the application complete email  Time to wait and pray that I get in. Going to be a stressful 2 weeks…
