Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

Brighton, are you currently a freshman?

yea you anon ?

so were they mailed today or have they yet to be mailed?

According to the woman I talked to this afternoon, she said decisions were mailed today. If this claim is true, then tomorrow we should hear from several members of this thread who reside in Nashville and areas close to Nashville about receiving their decisions.

Brighton, I’m currently a sophomore. I was just curious because we have similar high school stats, and I’ve heard that the older you are, the less high school stuff matters.

Had a missed call from my mom tonight, totally freaked out until she said there was no mail for me today.

Hope to meet all you guys at Vandy hahahahaha

Hi, I’m actually a mom (my son would probably freak if he knew I was posting this). However, I’d really like to know his chances.

HS gpa- 3.05 (Not good at all, but honestly math was his downfall. Most other classes were Bs or above.)
SAT- 1760 (R,M,W)
In high school he was fairly active. He played sports, was SADD president senior year, did a summer volunteering a the local historical library, service hours (Catholic school), student council rep.

He is currently a freshman at a local junior college (it is kind of like a community college but it also has some BS degrees). First semester his grades were 4.0, but his overall gpa is a 3.68 only because his three dual credit classes from high school are on this college transcript. His junior year he took American History I and II, and got a C+ in one, and a B in the other. His senior year he took English Comp I and got either an A or A-.

In college he has not been as active as he really wanted to focus on his grades, but he does work part time for the admissions office at the school (not work study). He gives tours of campus, answers phones, works weekends when they have visit days.

Intended major- Film Studies. Current school does not offer this so it is imperative that he transfers somewhere after this semester.

He has glowing recommendations. Also, he sent a Vandy specific, Why Vandy type essay in just the other day and his counselor said she’d gladly add it to his file. He wrote about the Vanderbilt film program, why he wanted to make films and Nashville itself as a cultural community.

Other than Vanderbilt, he has applied to

WashU- denied
Indiana University- Accepted
Cornell- ?
U of Chicago- ?
Middlebury- ?

With the exception of state school IU, he tried applying at schools that offered 100% aid packages, or close to it. We understand these are lofty schools, but he wanted to go for it.

About two weeks ago he received an email that said they still needed his hs transcript. It had already been sent but his HS sent it again last week. It was confirmed by his regional counselor that they received it and his file is now complete. I’m pretty sure this means he won’t hear this week, at least that he won’t hear something good.

Any idea on his chances? Thanks and good luck to all!

By the way, I may be missing some extra curriculars. Obviously his app listed them more extensively, I am just going off of memory here.

Also, we were told by the counselors that they do take your intended major into consideration to see how you fit in that major. Not sure if that helps or hurts anyone, but I think it could be a good thing.

Hopefully, if everything goes according to what I heard yesterday, Nashville applicants and applicants in surrounding areas should be receiving decisions today! GOOD LUCK! (I really hope they come in, I don’t want to look like a fool now lol)

Well, let us know lelouchFTW. What time does your mail usually come?

My mail usually comes around 3ish. However, I’m not going to be able to check until later tonight since I’m out of my house for a while today. But, hopefully some other members of this forum closer to Nashville should be hearing in the next few hours too? I called again to make sure and the guy said they were being mailed out currently so… I guess they’re coming.

Darn, just checked my mail didn’t get anything. Then again, I don’t live in Nashville or even Tennessee so my decision might come tomorrow or Saturday. Which members of this forum live in Nashville?

do they send it to our current or permanent address?

Depends on what address you used on your common app. If you put a mailing address, diff from your permanent address, they’ll use that

i’m really hoping they come tomorrow, hope they were actually sent on Wednesday…

Good luck to everyone who gets their decisions today!!!

On an unrelated note, all the individuals that live in the Boston and the surrounding areas my thoughts and prayers go out to you. As an individual who lives in Boston and goes to college in another location, it is very hard for me to see a great city be in such a dysfunctional state.

Hi everyone! I’m new to this thread. I’m also a transfer applicant. Just to let you guys know, I called the Vandy office today and they said that they will be mailing out decisions every FRIDAY starting from today. Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks for the information, arc3993. I guess some of us will hear back early next week.

I wonder if any were sent out on Wednesday the 17th then? Hopefully?
