Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

crazy7ray
Thank you for that information. My school does quarters (which is basically trimesters) rather than semesters, and even though I received my “application complete” email on March 4th, I had an updated transcript with my final grades for winter quarter sent to Vanderbilt at the very beginning of April. I am guessing this would be treated the same way as sending in a mid-term report after the deadline.

I feel a little better about my son getting a letter… just that he added an additional Vanderbilt Specific essay to his file and this was just about a week (maybe two) ago. So this would be similar to the people who sent in new midterm reports. I would think… Also, he had to have his HS transcript re-sent. They didn’t get it the first time.

Well that’s a relief! I sent in the Mid-Term report during the last week of March. Until then, I’ll have to wait til Friday at the earliest for a decision -_-

I sent in a Mid-Term report and it definitely would have helped my chances so I guess there is some hope! One of the A’s may have turned into an A- by the end of the semester which ends next week but It’ll still be a good GPA!

My acceptance letter was sent to my house in Indiana! (so some have reached the Midwest). 33 ACT, 5.98/6.0 HS GPA, 3.9/4.0 college GPA. Lots of community involvement and showed a lot of interest.

Notice how we’re all grasping onto hope whenever someone tosses us a little crumb of it? Why can’t Vandy be like other schools and just release all decisions at a specific day and time? Now we’re all in limbo - “did mine mail?” “Is it first class or priority?” “How long does it take to get to my town?” If I sent my “xyz” in after mid-March, does this mean they’re still reviewing mine?" " Do they look at Need or absense of need?" This is driving me crazy. My alternative college has a May 1 deadline.

Newtocollege, you are so right. I’m freaking out/holding on with an ounce of hope with every new post on the thread.

Of course, it is a bit skewed since the vast majority of posters have been acceptances.

Amen Newtocollege! Newtocollege, it is crazy putting every thing together to go to Richmond next year before the May 1 deadline all the while waiting on the UNC wait-list and way more importantly the Vandy decision just want to know either way!!!

I think one trend that I have seen in acceptances thus far that doesn’t match some of the threads I read from last years cc conversation is solid hs gpa. Most people who have posted stats this year all have strong hs record along with good college performance/ test scores. Seems like vandy isn’t just an easy back door to top 25 anymore. Just keeps getting more competitive very year at EVERY school.

Transva12, something to take into consideration is the class year. I’ve always heard that upcoming juniors will have less emphasis placed on high school performance, whereas they will weigh it more with upcoming sophomores since they don’t have as much college work under their belts.

This is undoubtedly true. But I think a general observation that transfer expectations are higher than lets say last year or two years ago, regardless of transfer class, is also true. For example, holding a GPA of 3.5 two years ago when applying to Vanderbilt was probably much more competitive than having that same stat this year.

I wonder how many applications they received this year though. Maybe 5 thousand? Or lower?

I have a solid 3.88 college gpa after 1 semester and 18 credits, but low lower sat scores (1980 math and reading). Hoping the gpa weighs more

Correction, 1280 sat (math/reading) lol

What major and school do you attend? I’m at UT-Austin and engineering.

transva12 there is no way there are 5000 applications to Vandy for transfer admission. It’s probably somewhere around 1500-1600.

Oh look, a bunch of random new users or users with less than 20 posts saying they got acceptance letters. Happens every year.

Again, for every one person posting they have been accepted as a transfer to Vanderbilt, three to four people are rejected. Many hopefuls lurk the forums without an account, and when rejected, they tend to avoid making an account to post their decision. Other rejected people have accounts, but are also too ashamed to post.

Indeed, applicants who were smart enough to complete all of the grueling requirements of the transfer application should be curious enough to do a quick Google search for transfer discussion. Several rejected applicants are reading my post now, but have never made an account or written a post.

There’s a reason why the Washington University in St. Louis transfer thread is dead silent. One acceptance post. They have mailed out decisions for over a week now. Other people are posting in other threads they got rejected from WUSTL.

Okay, I’m kind of freaking out about this for no reason right now, but if I don’t get a letter this week I’m going to assume it’s because I sent midterm reports. My midterm reports were straight A’s. If my final grades for second semester is 3 A’s and an A-, should I send those, maybe delaying my decision further? I’m so confused with how this process works!

Hmm… I wouldn’t stress over sending in your final grades thaaat much. I too sent in a midterm report which (at this point) will be the same as what I expect to make on my final grades. My exams start next week and I will be done by the 10th at the latest. I am hoping I will have received a decision by then, but I know that final grades won’t be posted for at least a week after exams are done. I am also confused on if sending in my final grades would help at all, I don’t know if it will be too late. Again, I’m really unsure of how they review applicants that they are iffy about. I am most likely one of them, if not a definite rejection.

So if I haven’t sent in any new information, and my application has been complete for nearly two months, then the reason I haven’t got anything in the mail is probably because I’m a borderline case? Not a clear acceptance or rejection? Will I be informed that I’m on this sort of “wait list” or just have to keep waiting to hear back ? :(

Ok, so here’s the deal: Vandy is mailing large priority mail envelopes to acceptances, and small, first class mail to the rest (WL, denials). If Vandy mails on Friday, and you get NO mail from them on Saturday or Monday, you basically don’t want to get mail from Vandy, since first class takes longer than Priority. There is a slim chance, if you don’t live in/near a large city that you COULD get Priority mail on Tuesday (which, honestly, is my hope, though it’s a little far-fetched. My home address is a SMALL city, so I’m sure it could have made it here by yesterday). So, in summary, if you haven’t gotten mail from Vandy yet this week, you probably don’t want any. Then we can all bring our optimistic selves out again next weekend.
