Hey congratulations to the new Vandy transfers. I also am making my decision based on financial aid. Is it too late to apply for financial aid? I looked up the deadlines for financial aid and it says it the CSS profile deadline has past. Is there any way to still get financial aid?

@anontransfer93 - I took Honors English my sophomore and junior years, then AP English and AP Calculus my senior year. Those are all of my honors/AP classes to speak of!

@WestSideGuy54 - Vandy was amazingly generous in their aid package. They calculate their own EFCs, but it’s based on the ones the FAFSA and CSS profile give you and they meet 100% of need based on that. :)

transfertime22 and lysa930: Thank you for your posts. I am relieved to know that some people were accepted without writing a Vandy-specific essay. Also, congratulations to those who were recently accepted, and good luck to those who are still playing the waiting game with me. Lastly, good luck to you, dhkeim93, wherever you end up.

Well, I’m waiting here with you Shawshank. Sincerely happy for those many accepted. I’m mentally " moving in" to UNC, so I’ll be ok with a Vandy no. Sorry to have been whining the past couple of days. I’m not a very patient guy apparently.

I’m incredibly nervous about Vanderbilt’s financial aid. I know it is glorified for the financial aid it awards its students but I’ve read about a few cases in the past where it hardly paid for anything.
I really have come to like Vanderbilt and all the reviews I’ve read thus far, but if it doesn’t provide enough financial aid (if they don’t like me enough), I don’t think I can attend.
Accepted students receive their financial aid notification a week after they’ve been accepted and this week is going to go so slow…
Just curious, but has anyone who has been accepted received poor financial aid from Vanderbilt here?

Got my acceptance yesterday. Upcoming junior, small private college. I ran cross country and track for my university, had a 4.0 as a biology/chemistry double major, valedictorian from high school and 31 ACT (not the best test taker lol but I take school seriously) Im so happy to be accepted because Im from a single parent family with very low income and will be in need to some serious financial aid, so I am so glad they accepted me. However, I will probably not be going after all because I have an academic and athletic scholarship at my current instituion that keeps me completely covered, so Im not sure if Vandy can beat that. Also, the reason I applied was because I suffered a major leg injury that had me out for most of the track season, but I came back strong and I want to continue to compete because I feel so blessed to have came back when the doctors didn’t think I would. Just wanted to share my stats because I know I am on the lower end as far as test scores and finances go so wanted to be encouraging to those still waiting. Also, I’ll turn in the slip saying I wont be going so that should open up another spot good luck all

The admission told me that the mail was sent on 29th of April. Is that good thing?? because I saw a post saying that most of accepted students from first batcher’s decision letter was sent on 29th of monday!!! I am so nervous to find it out!!!

Accepted today in IL

Hey when did your acceptance letter was written? does it say?

mine says April 29th at the top

Nothing again today.

I’m in!!!

My Mom just sent me a text that said congratulations and a picture of the acceptance letter. I’m not sure about the packaging/ date sent or anything because it went to my house. I am so relieved though; I didn’t complete my financial aid forms for my current school, register for any classes, or apply to any other schools. I was all in on Vandy. Thank God!!

Some info-
Transferring from: University of Southern California
Hometown: Rockport, Indiana
College GPA: 3.75
Major: Political Science
Class: Upcoming Sophomore
High school GPA: 3.98 unweighted (6 AP courses)
ACT: 31
EC’s: lots of good ones for high school, only two clubs this year.
Essay: I specified my common app essay to Vanderbilt and really stressed how important it was for me to be closer to my family. I think I did a good job of laying out why I decided to transfer and why Vandy was the right fit for me.
Recommendations: I reused my ones from high school.

Good luck to all of those still waiting, can’t wait for next year!!

@calej93 Congratulations!! I remember reading your post about how much you were depending on an acceptance and hoping you got in! I think I might be a political science major as well :)

Congratulations to the newly accepted members! I am so happy for all of you!

I still havent received my decisiom, but I’ve decided to look on the bright side of things - at least I won’t have to ask for an extension on the reply by date from Vandy now!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for everyone else who is still waiting that you all receive an acceptance soon! :)

I’m just relieved I most likely will not find out my decision until exams are over - I’m assuming at this late in the game it’s a rejection - so I won’t have that dark cloud lingering over my head during exams.

Hey, congrats to those accepted today! Calej93, I don’t know why you were worried with those stats, but I know this lingering can make you question yourself–nice to “see” some people still getting great results!

Vandygirl23:

That’s awesome to hear! I feel as though schools tend to be more generous to those that have little to no EFC…what if I am a middle class student that needs a bit more than half of the tuition covered? Do you think they are still as favorable to the typical middle class student? I don’t know what income braket many of you guys fall j to but I hope they don’t cut out the middle class by any means!

Accepted!!

So excited for this fall!

WestSideGuy54:

I am right there with you, buddy. I’m not transferring into vandy, but I do hear great things about their “no loan” policy. Loans are what kill the middle class, so I’m assuming with this policy you should be in the gold mine.

I’m a year behind you all so I’m not on the same boat, just yet. I’m planning on transferring to Vandy basically for the quite generous FA. My current school is HORRIBLE with FA, and once I found out the future prices for the coming years, I was forced into planning for a transfer.

Any early advice for transferring? Granted you all are very well educated in this topic, I was hoping at least one of you can shed some light on the likelihood of transferring for a hopeful transfer:)

^^
You need to do very well this upcoming semester at your current college by taking fairly challenging courses. If you did well on the SAT in high school (range from 2100 and up/ 32 or up on the ACT) then it’s unnecessary to retake otherwise study for these again.

Also get involved in a couple of activities in college that you can speak to in your application with passion, these can be anything as long as you demonstrate a sincere interest.

Keep in mind also that you need recommendations for professors so my advice is to interact regularly with a professor whose class you enjoy and are excelling at; this will be a crucial aspect near the end of semester when you ask for a letter.

F you have any other questions, let me know.
