Thank you for that! I’m definitely retaking the ACT. Will I need to also take subject tests? Or show AP scores? I don’t have any AP scores…however I’m taking the calc, bio, and gov in a few days. I don’t intend on using them for college credit, so can I speculate that those scores would be near useless? I joined all the AP classes my school offered, which were only during senior year and one during junior year (that one sucked).

Also for how notoriously the south is known for lack of diversity, will being an URM help?

Accepted dated 4/29! Super generous w/FA…I was full need and they’re offering 11k/yr in grants beyond tuition…roll in federal grants and it’s up closer to 18k/yr I’d be getting in my pocket…

anyone know if they grant extensions on admission offers? an extra week would help out a ton

First, AP scores are going to be a very important aesthetic component of your application, meaning that schools purportedly will not factor this into admission but undoubtedly will look at 5’s favorably.

In my opinion, SAT subjects are also quite critical parts. I submitted 4 of my tests and believe it definitely reflected positively because it showed you are a well rounded student. Honestly, the tests are not very difficult and doing well has a huge upside on your application. But by no means do you have to submit 4 like I did, 2 seem would be adequate. Make sure these are above 700.

HS: 2.8 gpa…terrible…thought I had a 3.1 but really slacked last half of senior year
SAT: 1340/1600 - solid but nothing special
College: 4.0-community college 1st yr → 4.0-state school soph (schedule is solid but not insane just the normal pre-med requirements)

I have a strong interest in a specific field and think my EC’s and essays spoke to this. Was a bit of a meat head in HS and just racked up varsity letters and was an all-state athlete in my sport of choice. Imagine they saw someone that got some academic inspiration after focusing/succeeding in sports. Also got two great LOR’s and have the URM & military reserves hooks

Does anyone have any idea if today represents the last “wave” of admissions decisions? Anyone spoken to admissions this week, and have any insight?

How did you get your financial aid award already? Doesn’t the acceptance letter say that financial award packages will arrive about a week after your acceptance letter?

@Newleaf…all came in a flat rate priority mail envelope: acceptance letter, 2013 transfer fact sheet brochure, deposit form, and my financial aid forms which are roughly 4 pages long outlining their offer

Another admitted transfer student’s (HS graduation '12) application highlight for reference:

I completed HS after 5 years. My HS gpa is below a 3.0 unweighted. SAT(1890) [math:660. Reading:610. Writing:620).
My first semester at a small top 100(closer to 100th than 40th)liberal arts college yielded a 3.75 gpa. I expect my second semester to be similar.

My notable extracurriculars include founding an investment club in college, working on a few political campaigns, and owning and operating a landscaping business.

In addition I worked with a classmate and his brother to get our startup funded and off the ground. I currently manage operations for the northeast.

Just stumbled onto this page and wishing I had found it sooner. Would have made the process much less stressful…

But, I’ve just received my acceptance letter today. Stats:

Transferring from top 100 state school
College GPA 3.6/4.0 in my major and 3.2/4.0 overall
High school gpa: 3.57/UW
Took 10 APs and did well/graduated in top 20%
SAT: 1980
Speak several languages
ECs: Lots
LOR: 3 very good ones

I am proof that numbers don’t mean all. Based on my numbers, I probably shouldn’t have gotten in. That being said, and not to sound arrogant but I feel honesty would serve you guys best, and, quite honestly, I wrote a VERY good essay. It was Vandy specific and, let’s just say it was unorthodox. Hope this helps!
