I just base it off of the common data set. It has the number of applicants and acceptances every year. Two years ago the rate was 32%, last year it fell to 26%, so it will probably fall again to the low-20s like 21-22%. It will just keep continuing to fall until it becomes as competitive as its freshman admissions since more people will apply every year.

Well, my son got his rejection today, here in Indiana.

I must say that I had been cautiously optimistic. I know his stats weren’t the best but I didn’t think they were the worst, either. Plus, his essays really spoke to his program and Vanderbilt. And his essays were kick-a**. (I’m a former English teacher so I know this. lol)

I do wonder if this was even partially because they are need-aware for transfer students, but we’ll never know. :(

But… no bitterness. I still maintain that it was a good experience for him to apply to this and some other upper-tier schools. It forced him to really focus on what he wants to do and to deeply analyze himself. It also taught him to compare programs and to ask questions.

He still has yet to hear from two of the schools on his list, but as of now it looks like he will be transferring to Indiana University. It is a top research state university and has a beautiful campus. They are growing their film program and have added new staff from Hollywood. He’s grown up an IU fan with regards to sports, so he’s excited about following the Hoosiers.

So no more worries about Vanderbilt for us. The focus is on looking forward.

Best wishes to each and every one of you no matter where you end up. You will be at the best place for you, whether it is Vanderbilt or another school. I truly believe that.

Good luck everyone!!! Make this world a better place… You all will be taking care of me when I’m an old lady! lol

I was accepted today. Honestly Vanderbilt is my backup school, unless they offer me a lot of financial aid, I won’t be accepting their offer. Especially since out-of-state tuition is going to be astronomical.

Waitlisted in Plainfield Illinois T_T

CC transfer with a 3.7 GPA. Kinda saw it coming . Now excuse me while I prepare to send the transfer admissions committee baskets containing letters saying “i love vanderbilt”, exorbitant amounts of cash, and a white tiger cubs.

Lol Chimikins, wish you the best with that. Looks like VU is one of your top choices, hope you get in.

@michaeldeblasio: I don’t know if you realize this, but Vanderbilt almost always gives you whatever you need to attend. Their endowment is massive, and if you need it, its tuition will be basically less than your average state school.

@colleensgirl: Sorry to hear that. I was really pulling for you.

I’m glad to hear that I am not alone when being concerned with financial aid. I received my financial aid package recently and unfortunately I would have to pay a significantly higher price than what my EFC suggests…does anybody know if Vandy financial aid is negotiable? I really want to attend but am afraid finances may get in the way.

Collensgirl, I’m sorry for your son. It really seemed like he made a great effort to tell Vandy what it meant to him. Best of luck to your family.

Am I the only one out there who has not yet heard back?

@Shawshank.
You are not alone. I am still waiting in NY. am afraid rej / WL letter will come tomorr

It is good to see I have some company. I am also worried about what may come in the mail tomorrow, though someone else from my state (Illinois) received a waitlist today so I have a feeling that my decision still has not been sent. I guess I will find out for sure tomorrow. Good luck!

I was able to email back and forth with Vanderbilt and get my estimated financial aid award despite them being reluctant to give me any information by email. Even though I have an EFC of 0, they expect me to pay about $15k a year. I am waiting on a response to see how successful an appeal would be, but considering I have full ride at Dartmouth, UW, Emory, and Cornell I doubt I will proceed. Even if I were to go to UMich I would only pay $11k.

I’m still waiting too, guys. And I don’t think the wait increases our chances of being rejected, even though I am not confident I will receive an acceptance or a wait-list. I’m just saying it wouldn’t make any sense, especially if they’ve already started wait-listing people, to only reject and wait-list the last wave of students.

Anyway, my hope is that they reviewed my application a few weeks ago and saw that I only have 13 credits from my current university (plus two 5’s on APs and some college credit from high school), and decided to put my app to the side and wait for my second semester grades, which were mailed last Wednesday. This is only my very small hope though.

I agree that having to wait longer probably does not have any impact on our chances of being accepted. As we have already seen, rejections, wait-lists, and acceptances have all been mailed beginning with the first wave. I just hope I find out soon. I don’t know how many more trips I can take to the mail box with my heart beating rapidly, only to find nothing addressed to me.

I’m still waiting too, in PA. At this point, I’d rather get a rejection than nothing at all… I need to figure out what the heck I’m doing next year! Well, hang in there, guys!

Still waiting in MI. Honestly expecting a flat out rejection, but I still hope I get in.

I’m still waiting and received my app. complete email on April 1st.

same here anontransfer93

I move back home tomorrow and I’m expecting a nice rejection in the mail. What a nice welcome home gift!

Hello all who are waiting! Please, let me share a little anecdote.
I received an “application complete” email on March 4th and I was almost 100% sure I was going to be rejected. But lo and behold! Just last week, I received an acceptance! I’m still waiting/worried on the financial aid package but an acceptance is still an acceptance
I guess the moral of the story is: you never know.
Hang in there guys!
