Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

^ 300 posts!

^Lucky 13? I guess…?

hahaha I hope so

The process is playing out almost exactly like Tyrone said it was in an earlier post, if you guys still waiting I haven’t read it I suggest going back to take a look. I feel for all of you in this last batch though (if there aren’t future batches); the waiting is so stressful.

As far as the financial aid goes, I can’t rave enough on the generosity of Vanderbilt. I’m a first generation college student, my father is unemployed and my mother doesn’t have the greatest job. Vanderbilt is supplying the full estimated cost of attendance (sans about 1500-2000 that can easily be saved with a summer job) without loans. If you choose not to do work-study (and get the full aid package), you still will only be paying about 4000-5000 out of pocket per year. WITH NO LOANS!!

My current university claims to meet fully-demonstrated need as well… but their package included $5500 in federal loans, $2400 in work study, and left about $6000 to be accounted for by the student per year.

I’m not trying to sound whiny, as financial aid is certainly not an entitlement and I’m incredibly grateful for any amount of money granted. However, I cannot praise Vanderbilt enough for taking it upon themselves to provide less-privileged students an opportunity to obtain a quality education without the burden of future debt.

Haha, thanks for the congratulatory post, Newtocollege. Hopefully my 102nd post (since this one is my 101st) will consist of good news regarding my admissions decision. Although the decisions are sent in “waves”, it seems that not all the decisions in each wave are sent on the same day (I am basing this supposition on the fact that cfisher1’s decision was apparently sent yesterday). My point? You never know when your decision will arrive. Good luck to all.

Calej, I’m happy for you, financially and college-wise. Tyrone, bud, you came here at the right time a couple of weeks ago, and helped give us some hope. Of course at the time I was sure some other poor slob would still be hanging out here waiting today, haha, as evidenced by my whining a few pages back. Patience, sensei. And Shawshank, your 103rd and my 303rd maybe will be some good news?

Hi everyone! So an update on my financial aid. I still haven’t received my financial award in the mail so I called them and a woman told me how much I was being awarded and I just have to say: THEY ARE THE GODS OF FINANCIAL AID.
They were VERY generous and they matched my EFC very closely so I’m absolutely thrilled right now.
I feel like I am a lot more excited about this than I was about the initial acceptance letter, especially because I thought I was not going to get accepted, and then I did, and then I was researching all this stuff about the school and then I fell kind of in love with it and I was trying to not love it so much because my parents might now be able to afford it and now it’s a real possibility for me! Sorry about this blurb guys, I just can’t contain how ecstatic I feel!

anyone know when they will send out this last wave of decisions?

It HAS to be this Friday. This waiting is the stuff that creates serial killers

i hope so. i called my counselor and she said I would for sure have it within two weeks and that was on monday

I am literally laughing out loud at your comment, richitar3.

At this point, I feel like they would have already filled their transfer class with all of the decisions they’ve sent out.

I am so paranoid they save their least desirable candidates for the last round of decisions… (not saying that that is any of you, I’m just saying this because they’re probably laughing at my application)

i’m pretty sure all the rounds of decisions are viewed the same

Hey everyone,

I just found this thread and now I’m freaking out!! I received my application complete on April 19 and I’m so stressed about the decision now. Vanderbilt is my hope for a good financial aid package. So are we the last wave of applications? What are “waves” based on… geographical region? date that we sent in our application? I was somewhat confident about getting in but now that is waning after hearing about all these acceptances. hopefully there is still space for me!! I have an exam tomorrow that I’m procrastinating on lol vandy stress has taken over haha.

All rounds are viewed the same. And this Friday is not the last wave. Its not the last round because xfer1994 said his/her counselor said it would be sent out within two weeks, which means they are sending out decisions next Friday. 2 Wed. ago my counselor told me the same thing, and he said my decision was sent out yesterday (Tuesday).

A wave is basically a batch of decisions getting sent out.

I’m praying that they still haven’t made a decision about my application, so I can have my spring grades sent in. I received a 4.0 for the semester, but only took 4 classes. At this point I think it’s a lost cause.

Called in today. They said we will all know by the end of the month and that, unfortunately, the rounds are indeed divided into tiers. I’m guessing that since Vandy gives such a short window to accept or decline the acceptance, they have those spots roll over to the next rounds. I’m in that boat right now, and can’t wait for the decision.

wagonwheel18, that’s exactly what I suspected, yet whenever I would call the admissions office they would say that just because someone receives their letter earlier doesn’t mean that the people who haven’t are less desirable candidates… I’m just so confused and worried at this point.

so less people will be accepted from this wave than others, or how does that work if it is divided into tiers?

Unfortunately, this is what I feared. Basically, Vandy is giving the first and second waves a couple of weeks (I think the first was May 3, assume next was May 10) to accept their offer. If they didn’t, those spots get rolled over to those of us in tiers 3 and 4 that they’ve put in a kind of “holding pattern.” If there’s a bright side, I’m assuming those of us who haven’t heard still have a shot, though I assume the number of available slots are getting smaller and smaller. This is smart on Vandy’s part: they have said they have 220 spots to fill, and by doing this systematically, they are not having to deal with either over-enrollment or a cumbersome waitlist. Once the class is full, as they say on their website, there will probably be very little movement. I think USC does it this way, and it is painful for those of us still waiting. From a business standpoint, it does make sense. Since they mailed Tuesday, acceptances should be received, Priority Mail, today. Otherwise, it’s a small envelope later this week (end); or we’re in the dreaded last tier, and have to hope a lot of acceptances turn Vandy down. Their aid seems awesome, though, so there probably aren’t a lot of people turning them down! Good luck to all of us!
