feels good…on to transfer essays…great to find out this morning no additional essays in the Vandy supplement!

That’s both good and bad IMO.

can see that…I’m applying to 6 schools so the fewer school specific essays I must do the better. Found out its just the FAFSA/CSS due feb 5th…everything else march 15th like the non-fin aid people.

Final grades are in and my GPA dropped a little but that’s alright!!!

Hey all! I am also applying to transfer for Fall 2013. Here are my stats:

I am a Caucasian male from Georgia, and I will be applying for financial aid. Also, I am a father to one child: a daughter. The only reason why I add this is because it is listed on my application, so they will know in the admissions office.

High School: Heard County Comprehensive High School
GPA: 93.45 (I don’t know the whole 4.0 scale equivalent)
Rank: 25/146 (competitive high school, competitive class)
SAT: 1570 (480 CR, 540 M, & 550 W) [I know, it sucks, but they said that it won’t hold that much water]
Class Rigor: I took all Honors classes offered and took 2 out of the 3 AP courses offered that I was eligible to take (both taken senior year)
Extracurricular Activities/Work Experience/Honors: National Honor Society, Beta Club, National Spanish Honor Society (Vice President one year), Marching Band for four years (Drill Captain for one year and Section Leader one year), Y-Club for four years (President for two years), Cashier/Bagger at the local Piggly Wiggly for a short time, Drama Team Co-Leader for two years, Sunday School Teacher for two years, and Wednesday Night Counselor for two years.

College: University of Georgia
GPA: 3.58 (48 credits…one C in Physics, taken over the summer) - applying as a junior
Extracurricular Activities/Work Experience/Volunteerism: Economics Society Treasurer, Dean’s List multiple times, Drama Team Youth Leader for a year now, and Desk Assistant (D.A.) at a high-rise residence hall geared to freshmen.
Essay: As we all know, it was a 250-500 word short answer response to why we want to transfer. Well, I got overly excited and completed the application in mid-October. So, I just jotted down an essay over the course of a couple days or so. Ultimately, it’s probably good, but not amazing or anything.
Recommendations: I am having two of my professors from this semester (that I got A’s in their classes) complete the teacher evaluations, two high school teachers (AP Lit. teacher and Spanish Honors teacher) send in letters of recommendation, and my registrar/adviser recommended me highly…so, I think it’s all good in that department.
I know that college work will be looked at more so than anything else…I made 3 A’s and 2 A-'s this past semester…so, I’m hoping that stands out in a good way.

Could you all let me know how my chances look for transfer admission? I’m nervous, and really wanting to get in. I want to apply to Peabody College, too. Oh, and I will let you know what I think about your predicament, as well. Just let me know if I forgot to mention something, or if you need additional details…or anything else. Thanks in advance!

Wow, those are some accomplishments. I’m sure you’ll do fine and get accepted! Did you already send in your Common App?

Told myself I would be ready to submit everything by now…keep chickening out!

How did finals treat everyone?

Bio final kicked me in the teeth but I still got a B!

How’d yours go?

Beachlover, you really think so? I keep hearing differently from others…in fact, they keep saying that my SATs will keep me from gaining admission. I’m worried about it, but know that I will be here if I don’t get in. Yes, I already sent in the Common App and the Supplement. I’ve also just been told that the School Report was sent off yesterday too. The Official’s Report is getting work on by people above me right now, so I expect that it will be sent in January sometime. Then, I will give my Teacher Evaluations to my two professors in January as well. My SATs were also sent in already too. Are you going to send them an official transcript from your college? I don’t know if it’s mandatory or not, but I think I’m going to once my grades are completely finalized and all.

Anon, Finals went okay. I made an ~88 on one and got out with an A, made an 87 on another and got out with an A, made 86 on one (needed an 89+) so I got out with an A- (0.25 points from an A! UGH!), and made a 97 on one and got out with an A- (~0.90 points from an A! UGH!)…just my luck…but I’m just trying to be proud of my 3 A’s and 2 A-s,…but when it’s that close to an A, it’s annoying…anyway, how about you?

^ My standardized test scores stink. My admissions counselor said they won’t be weighed nearly as much as college level work. I called admissions again and my counselor wasn’t available, so I spoke to an on-call counselor who told me there are certain cut offs that they have, and if we feel that retaking these tests would help than we could definitely do so. (This confused me even more!) I just don’t want to waste any time… I’ve been a high school graduate for almost two years and don’t think these standardized scores should matter at all. Then again, if my bad test scores hinder my admissions decision I will hate myself!

My exams went alright! I came out with 3 A’s and 2 A-'s. One of my grades was a 93.92 and was not rounded to an A… I’m bitter about it. My other A- I was lucky to receive… It was in my most difficult class. Now time to relax and stress out about applying on time!

We did the same as far as grades go! Now I’m stressing about the cut offs…great…I’m probably going to have to contact someone about that because I think my admissions counselor doesn’t like me, he keeps telling me to refer to the website, but it doesn’t answer any of the questions that I have for him!

My counselor told me that they alone make the decision of whether or not you make the cut - then all of the regional admissions counselors review your application. YIKES.

[insert anxiety here]

Even better! Hopefully everything will just be fine…

Ok, I really don’t want to retake my SATs, so I really hope they don’t count for much.

Anyone planning on taking a trip to campus?

Maybe…I’ve thought about it, but I don’t know. If I do, then it’d be over the summer - once I get in.

I might but that’s at least a 9 hour drive.

Interesting post about our admission counselor deciding if we make the cut? First I’ve heard of that but I should probably try to interact with him more if its truly the case! Is Vandy your guys top choice and applying anywhere else? I’m working on 6 applications myself…so many essays

Well, I am already at a school that I really like. So, I am just exploring my options by applying to Vanderbilt because it’s ranked higher, and I would have more opportunities. With that said, it’s the only one that I am applying to. Hoping I’ll get in, but will be just fine if I don’t.

I’d prefer to leave my current school and attend Vandy but if I don’t get in, there’s always FSU.
