Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

I was given more than 2 weeks to accept my offer. I think y’all will be fine. Most schools begin to send out decisions mid to late April, I think.

Friday: so close, yet so far away.

Still haven’t checked yet…

The night before my decision was released, I emailed my counselor expressing my interest in Vanderbilt (i.e. what I should’ve done on the essay).

She replied today, stating she’ll add it to my application to be considered for review.

I have NO idea what that means, but I have a hunch, and it’s not a good one.

@Juvenis‌ you should just go ahead and check! And I emailed mine the night before also and haven’t gotten a reply. So. Yeah.

@CaptTShannan Think about it. If my decision is released, why would she still “consider” it for my application for review? If I got accepted, there’d be no need to reply. Same goes for rejected. Guess what other option there is…

and I can’t check because I have an exam I NEED to study for tomorrow

@Juvenis‌ That’s true. But she could have responded to your email without actually looking at your file. And I completely understand about the exam lol.

Why would she do that?

Guys I’m freaking out. Just found this thread and I don’t know if it makes me more stressed! Love reading all the comments though so I guess I’ll be checking this every hour (…minute) along with MyAppVU! GAH

Applied to Child Studies in Peabody. Anyone else?

@CaptTShannan OMG I GOT IN!!! :smiley: :smiley: :D

@Juvenis‌ For one, she’s probably very busy. Two, she could have just gotten around to your email and the typical response to an email like that is they will put with your file to review. And then afterward, she’d put it with your file.
I’m not exactly sure, to be honest. I just don’t think you should label yourself as rejected quite yet because I think you’ve probably already been accepted. :)

@BB37240‌ hey! I applied to Peabody as Secondary Education! What are your stats?

@Juvenis‌

I told you!!!

Getting ready for decisions! I’m so anxious, especially because I have to figure out everything pretty quickly in planning my summer and what not. And, @BB37240‌, I applied to Peabody for Childhood Development, so similar we’re quite similar applicants.

What are your stats like and why do want to study that specifically? Just curious.

I wish everyone the best of luck! :smiley:

@CaptTShannan‌ @TransferFall14

I am a freshman at Cornell University in Arts & Sciences

HS GPA: 3.78
College GPA: 2.9 (Stop, I know it’s horrible!!!..but it has a back story; took Cornell’s hardest biology class and almost failed, but got an A+, A- and B in other class)–wrote an additional essay about it
ACT: 32 (Superscore 33)
SAT Math II: 770

My midyear report showed: A (Developmental Psychology), A (Intro to Stat), A- (Introduction to Art History: Modern Era), N/A (Disability & Employment Policy), N/A (Undergraduate Research in Psychology)

I’m currently working in a psychology lab on campus
Have a internship with a non-profit organization working with children with mental disability this summer
Have some strong (I hope!!!) letters of rec from my Cornell Dev. Psych professor, family friend who has some connections at Vandy and had an interview with a prof. at Vandy who wrote an email to some of his colleagues

Sorry I wrote so much, I’m just absolutely freaking out. WAH!

The N/A was because we hadn’t received grades in the class yet…

How could you guys know whether your decision is available? Vandy sent an email to you?

This thread has got me checking online for a decision multiple times a day!

@Juvenis
CONGRATULATIONS!!! :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

BUT maybe emailing our counselors won’t help as much as we thought…?

Either way…good luck to everyone! and @Yazzerrr even though I know they only release decisions on Fridays, I still check like 3 times a day hahahah

Just an FYI to everyone. I emailed the general admissions address (admissions@vanserbilt.edu), just to 1.) confirm if Peabody applicants’ decisions will come at a different time then CAS and others, and 2.) to verify if the next round of decisions is indeed this upcoming Friday (regardless of question #1). I need to know pretty soon because the pending decision is hampering my ability to make summer plans. I will post their response ASAP!

Also, @BB37240‌, I’m just curious, but why have you decided to transfer from Cornell? I am only wondering because I also applied there as a transfer applicant (to the College of Human Ecology for a major in Human Development). My mom went there for her undergraduate degree (same college, too), so legacy might be a possible hook for me. But it’ll be really tough to get accepted, because unlike Vanderbilt, Cornell requires specific coursework to be completed to be considered “competitive.” I’m both more optimistic and excited about my prospects at Vanderbilt to be honest.

One last thing (sorry this is so long guys), I had some questions to those in the forum if they wouldn’t mind answering. I also try to add stuff about my candidacy pertaining to Peabody at Vanderbilt so everyone can get a better picture of my application. Here are the questions:
1.) For Peabody applicants, what do you want to do after your bachelors degree? For me, I want to ideally go to medical school (if I can even get in). The reason why I want to specifically study Child Development is because my dream is to become a pediatrician!
2.) For all, is anybody else pre-health and/or pre-med?
3.) For all, besides your academic records, what are the major and very compelling ECs that you wrote about and/or highlighted in your application?
4.) For all, how many recommendations did you have written on your behalf? I forgot to note in my stats post that I had four; one from my Bioethics professor at Case Western (he was faculty in the medical school, which could look really good), one from my first-year writing tenured professor of sociology at Case Western, one from an advisor of a club I was involved with at Case Western dedicated to mental health awareness (Active Minds), and and one last one from my Psychology instructor at Rutgers, where I currently attend.
5.) For all, did anyone else write to your admissions counselor(s) to further explain any situation or circumstances? I actually sent two emails with additional statements as attachments; the first detailed how I got to this point of wanting to transfer to a third university (it’s a really long story, but I will tell if you PM me), and the second elaborated on some circumstances that led to me receiving such a low/sub-par SAT score (again, PM me if you want to know more).

Thanks everyone… If you got this far, I appreciate you reading all of this over. :)

@TransferFall14 Well, for me, Cornell didn’t offer the chance to really focus on children specifically. I mentioned in my essay that we have the College of Human Ecology with the HD major you mentioned but Child Studies really focused on exactly I want to be studying (children as the focus, special education, dev psych, etc.). I also have absolutely fallen in love with the academic atmosphere and the student body in general–not to mention, Nashville is heaven on Earth! Fingers crossed. How did my stats look?
