** Official Vassar College(ED) Class of 2022 Discussion Thread **

Thought I’d make a thread on Vassar ED applicants.
Who all out there applied ED1 to Vassar?

My daughter applied ED1. Anticipation is building! Last year they notified on Nov 12. But no word yet as to when this year’s decisions are posted.

I applied as well. Hoping we hear this week

my son did  Waiting patiently to hear! Good luck, everyone!

I’m getting impatient day by day. Hope Vassar informs us of the date soon.
Btw which major/s are you guys interested? I’m polisci and economics.

I’m stressed because I requested an interview around a month ago, and it looks like I’m not even going to get one by the time results are released. Also, majors wise I’m interested in bio (with a focus on genetics) and poli-sci.

I think you should contact the admissions officer and ask them why you haven’t gotten an interview till now. Who knows, they might schedule an interview right away.

@gbraun if i recall correctly, the person who gave the admissions talk we went to indicated that the interview was “for your sake only, we do not consider it when making admissions decisions.” So we decided to spend the interview time on a different school. This was in about 2013-2014 so maybe philosophies have changed, but thought I’d throw this in FWIW.

@gbraun what @ytippiz is saying is correct. The Vassar website also says the same:

“These conversations are non-evaluative and are not required, but they are a great way to learn about Vassar from a different perspective.”

"Interviews
Want to learn more about Vassar through a one-on-one conversation? Off-campus informational interviews are available for first-year applicants. They are conducted all over the world by Vassar alumnae/i and are available from November through February. These conversations are non-evaluative and are not required, but they are a great way to learn about Vassar from a different perspective. Not having an interview will not affect your admission decision. Requests will be processed only after you have submitted your application. "

My daughter is focusing on Art History/Medieval Studies/Italian. We had no interview but she was able to spend a night on campus and meet some students and professors. That’s what sealed the deal for her. She doesn’t want to go anywhere else. Lol.

Hi all! I applied to Vassar for ED, too. I’m interested in psychology or poli-sci. I hope we hear soon… I keep frantically checking my email!

Hi I’m drama or media studies. I hope to hear soon, too.

My son also applied ED1 and hopes to study Bio/Neuroscience. Hoping for the best as he loved his visit. Also worried how affordable it would be if he is accepted. Does anyone know if they let you know about financial aid right away if accepted? Saw on their admissions Instagram page that they were finalizing ED1 applications yesterday.

I read on their website that the financial aid package comes out 1-2 days after the admission decision. I’m a bit worried about affordability too D:

Thanks, that’s good to know… My S has backup (safe) schools but would hate to see him disappointed if he got in and it wasn’t affordable. To be perfectly honest, $70k a year for tuition is ridiculous.

Agreed! But I’ve heard that most people don’t end up paying sticker price for most schools, which makes me feel a bit better ;

Early Decision at Vassar is binding. If you get in, you have to withdraw your applications from other schools. They only “escape clause” is financial burden. But I don’t know what kind of hoops you have to jump through to demonstrate that their financial aid offer still keeps attendance untenable.

In other news… based upon the Vassar Instagram feed, they notified folks on December 12th last year and also in 2014. I don’t know what the notification date was for 2015. But I reckon it’ll be on or about the 12th this year too. that’s just a guess though.

Vassar is known for its generous aid(one of the reasons I applied). Lets hope that they can cover all the accepted applicants demonstrated need.

@arizona68 yes, as @kaylak1515 says, it’s essentially concurrent. In our case, Vassar’s offer was slightly more expensive than full tuition at our local big state school, which was not as great as we were hoping, but a fair deal. And I believe the school is still need-blind.

If he gets in and they come close to in-state, we would be thrilled. Guess we will finds out soon enough… Well, actually, not soon enough!! LOL!! I’m assuming you check the same site that shows what you have submitted?
