Waitlisted to school of business
3.5, 31 ACT

My take on the situation and this is purely just speculation. Villanova has the ability to reject high qualified and overqualified applicants. Not because they can, because they can afford to. They have no pressure to increase its ranking on multiple college rankings because they are a regional university ranked #1. They virtually have no competition under this category. Other schools usually admit highly overqualified and qualified applicants and give them large amounts of financial aid hoping that they will matriculate. By doing this it may boost national schools in the rankings, created by US News and World Report for example. When they do increase the schools look more prestigious and their endowments tend to increase. This is just purely speculation on my part, but I believe there is some truth to it. Good luck everyone in your college search.

I was accepted to school of nursing with a 2030 SAT score

I CAN NOT BELIEVE how dead this board is! When EA results came out this board was exploding with posts. Maybe people don’t know decisions are up online?

[ b]General Comments:**
after seeing how many people go waitlisted with better credentials than mine, i am not that upset, kind of shocked. why do they wait list so many highly qualified candidates?

I would totally go to Villanova…completely not fair that they waitlist because of over-qualification. Makes my hard work meaningless.

My son was waitlisted (school of engineering).

1960 SATs (540CR 720M)
3.4 GPA

 • nationally known, top private school
 • never visited Villanova
 • did not apply for financial aid
 • white, male, no hook
 • EC: primarily one sport year around, but not a recruited athlete, 50 hrs community service
 • rigorous courseload this year

Wait listed for Villanova’s School of Nursing. Does anyone have any words of advice other than my high school counselor sending in more grades?

Rejected College of Engineering

ACT 28
Very good application package - 4 yr Varsity Athlete, Captain, strong ECs - founder and VP of school club, 100+ hrs Community Service, great teacher recommendations from Engineering & Physics teacher, strong STEM curriculum, Capstone Sr Year Scholar, etc.

White, male no legacy, no hook, but did visit

Accepted to Purdue Engineering, Clemson Engineering, Syracuse Engineering and UVM Engineering so I’m in good shape but certainly would have strongly considered Villanova.
Congrats to all of you!

Waitlisted

[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted - Lehigh, Villanova, Ohio St., U of Illinois, Wheaton; Waiting - Cornell, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Bucknell, Lafayette; WL - Case Western

[/ul]General Comments: Posting for my son. Besides the basic stats/EC stuff, I think what has really helped his apps were his essays and his ability to tie his experiences into what he would bring to each school. He focused on showing who he is instead of what he thought people wanted to hear.

From the posts so far, it seems there are more waitlisted applicants than accepted - including me. It also looks like most are highly qualified match candidates. Does Villanova typically admit large numbers from their wait list in order to protect yield?

The “Wait List FAQ” on myNOVA says they admit an average of 150 kids from the wait list every year…
