@lullinatalk: I had indeed written an e-mail to my admission counselor indicating my UChicago Account reference number nearly a week ago, but I heard back from him just today along with the confirmation of my placemenet on the wait-list. Thank you anyway and all the best!
It seems that the number of applicants waitlisted this year is more than that of those who are rejected, so the comeptition’s gonna be really really tight!

I was just wondering.
When you contact your regional counselor, how do you start the letter? Do you always introduce yourself, as in say who you are? Or, after the first time you just go right to the point?

@Dinouchie: Given the huge number of applicants and equally large volume of e-mail that the regional counselors receive every day, I guess it’s better to introduce yourself in every e-mail that you write. Or, at least, provide them with your common application ID or your particular college account ID to which you are writing. It’ll not only help them to sort your file faster but you’ll also continuously remind them of who you are.

Hey guys,

What’s going on with WUSTL? Was there something unusual about their waitlist this year?

Were you expecting a rejection or an acceptance?
rejection

Give a reason why you think you were waitlisted?
-GPA UW 3.83
-SAT 2230
****ty GPA, and average SAT scores. My EC’s were wonderful (high up position on a really prestigious school newspaper and assorted community service, some sports, summer classes)and my essays were… interesting. Which could definitely also mean they were awful… who really knows?

Planning to stay “officially” on the waitlist?
Oh yes my friend. You would have to drag me off kicking and screaming…unless of course it was to Chicago. People can be so funny about top choices.

Which other colleges have you been already accepted to/ got likely?
All the UC’s. Still in the throes of choosing between Berkeley and LA.

Applied for FA? If yes, what’s your EFC?
uh yeah, but it’s all up in the air with my brother attending college too and also depends on his financial aid.

I (sadly) turned down Chicago this morning, so I hope some spaces open up for y’all.

Has anyone had their GC call the admissions office? What would that accomplish exactly?

Thank you! good luck at Princeton! my dream school, but sadly I didn’t get in. It’s all good however!

Having your GC call in is more of an authority figure I guess? They can ask whether they will be going to the waitlists this year, an estimate of how many, basically be more nitpicky than you are in the position of being.

Once you have your GC call, you have to go there once you get off the waitlist. Not doing so will ruin your GC’s name.

Also, the waitlist thread at parents’ forum says Chicago has started going on the waitlist this year.

I saw that as well!

Has anyone on CC been taken off the waitlist?

After much deliberation, D decided on Swarthmore for undergrad; there’s another spot.

The UChicago waitlist is most definitely ACTIVE. I got a call yesterday when I came home from school and was literally, accepted over the phone! Without hesitating, I accepted my position
Good luck to you all!

^ I most certainly hope you are not ■■■■■■■■ because [this post](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12555455-post92.html) killed a little bit of me inside :\ But if you aren’t, congrats!

The wait list is definitely still active because I just got off the wait list this morning! Best of luck to everyone!

Not ■■■■■■■■, just overwhelmed. WOW what a day!

hi! around what time did they call? was it like 3pm? and how did they get your number… ? or was it just like, they took it from the common app info? :S

=( =,( =[ :(

Definitely active. I got a call yesterday, and an acceptance letter online today.
Best of luck, everybody!

^Congrats, I’m hoping for the best!

ajdandioawndoaw. What happens if I’m not at home and they get my answering machine. Do I miss my shot?

I sent an e-mail on Sunday night apologizing for how annoying I was being with all of my updates, and once again reaffirmed my belief that the University of Chicago was the right place for me. I received an e-mail from my admissions councelor (New Jersey) stating he would like to speak with me on the phone. He called my house at around 3PM Monday afternoon and asked me that if U of C were to extend an offer of admission, if I’d accept. After saying yes, he congradulated me right then and there and said my admit packet would arrive shortly. I enrolled today, but I did request deferral until Fall of 2012 in order to pursue studies in Russia. Here’s what I did after being wait-listed, in case anyone’s interested:
-Updated my portfolio of any other awards and community service efforts
-Wrote another essay about my love for U of C’s quirks
-Teacher recommendation
-Peer evaluation
-3rd marking period grades
-I ended all of my letters with very sarcastic and random comments in Russian, as to attract attention
One thing to know, BE ASSERTIVE. Be funny when you write these e-mails; make them “informally formal.” They don’t care about the goody goody e-mails they receive thanking them for this and that. Make them laugh, show some sarcasm; it reveals your character to the admissions staff.
